Robert Pattinson's New Movie Little Ashes Not Playing Well with Critics

Robert Pattinson's efforts to expand his career beyond GQ covers and the Twilight franchise may be hitting a snag with the release of Little Ashes, a movie based on the life and loves of Spanish surrealist Salvador Dalí. Reviews are lukewarm at best, and apparently they've got nothing to do with Pattinson's nearly-full-frontal-nudity scene, which was widely panned.

5"...it's a speculative, impressionistic portrait without a lot of dramatic force or psychological depth. But it's an elegantly designed film that fascinates as often as it frustrates."

    -- Stephen Farber, Hollywood Reporter

4"...a typically bombastic lives-of-the-artists production made even more stilted by having all the actors (including the Spanish ones) speak accented English..."

    -- Melissa Anderson, Village Voice

1"...less a film than just a series of bad ideas piled on top of one another..."

    -- Lauren Wissot, Slant Magazine

More Clips from Robert Pattinson's Little Ashes

Little AshesMTV have two new clips from indie movie Little Ashes, which stars Robert Pattinson and Javier Beltran.

Pattinson adopts a Spanish accent for the role, as well as a strange moustache and a somewhat proper wardrobe. Twilight fans will be used to seeing him sporting an all-black ensemble with un-washed hair, which is a far cry from the suit and tie get-up Salvador Dali wore. What do you think, Twilighters? Is this a look Pattinson can pull off? We're just thankful he's wearing clothes.

Robert Pattinson Gets Naked in Little Ashes

Robert PattinsonA half-naked picture of Twilight's Robert Pattinson has surfaced online. The image is taken from upcoming indie film Little Ashes, in which Pattinson plays artist Salvador Dali.

Fan reaction so far has been mixed, with many younger Pattinson followers not sure where to look. Has their vampire heartthrob jeopardised his teen-idol status? Only time (and disappointed fans hoping for an Edward-like physique) will tell.

First Look at Robert Pattinson's Little Ashes

Access Hollywood has several exclusive clips from Robert Pattinson's upcoming indie movie Little Ashes.

Little Ashes sees Pattinson play 18-year-old artist Salvador Dali, and follows Dali's university years in Madrid circa 1922. Also starring Javier Beltran as Federico Garcia Lorca and Matthew McNulty as Luis Bunuel, the film has so far garnered critical acclaim, though it's still unclear whether it will be released in theaters.

As his character experiments with his sexuality, Twilighters can expect to see a different side of Pattinson. Do you think this was a good career move? We're sure his hordes of fans will soon be sharing their opinions, though with the film rated R, we're not sure many of them will actually get to see it.

    Memoirs Next for Robert Pattinson

Robert PattinsonAs if Robert Pattinson doesn't already have enough to do, he's now in talks to star in romantic drama Memoirs. Summit Entertainment is set to finance the project, with Allen Coulter (Hollywoodland) linked as a possible director.

This could prove to be a wise move on Summit's behalf, and you can bet your life savings that every Twilight fan would flock to the theater to see their favorite bronze-haired vampire. Don't believe us? You only have to mention Little Ashes -- a film which sees Pattinson starring as artist Salvador Dali -- to be greeted with a fangirl squeal of epic proportions. Already planning to reunite with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke for 2011's teen tearjerker If I Stay, Summit certainly isn't stupid in their quest for Hollywood domination.

    Little Ashes Bumped to May

With Twilight fans hungry to see stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in another movie, they no longer have the weekend of March 27 to delight in both Pattinson's Little Ashes and Stewart's Adventureland. According to RopeofSilicon, distributor Regent Releasing has moved Little Ashes from March to May 8, 2009. In order to see both stars on the same weekend, fans will just have to wait until New Moon enters theaters in November.
