Premiering in February next year, one has to ask why The Wolfman isn't coming out now? After all, October is the month of Halloween.
Well, rumor has it that the first edit was less than stellar. More specifically, that the Wolfman himself wasn't up to par ... in fact, the creature effects were downright embarrassing. So the studio had its CGI team rework the beast, and it looks like they're happy now, because this newest trailer shows off quite a bit more of the Wolfman than the last one.

From the atmospheric trailer, it's clear how much of a debt the the reboot of The Wolf Man owes to its 1941 predecessor. All very goth and retro, even Victorian, the trailer is peppered with ominous dialogue. On the plus side, one element that's not vintage 1940s are the special effects. It's most definitely not an update along the lines of An American Werewolf in London, except for the scenes where Benicio Del Toro transforms into a werewolf.
Not only is the trailer a feast for your eyes, but there's a cautionary tale in here too about the value of getting sufficiently strong restraints. It's a public service announcement we can get behind.

Typically, when a movie studio changes the release date of a movie, it's not necessarily a sign of trouble. Often this is done to take advantage of a holiday or to avoid competing with a movie with a similar target audience. However, when a movie's release is rescheduled twice, rumors start circulating that there are problems with the production. So what does it mean when a movie's release is rescheduled three times like The Wolfman? Well, if there are problems with Universal's The Wolfman, they're not saying.
The Wolfman was initially scheduled for a November 12, 2008 release, but was pushed back to early 2009. When director Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) left, citing "creative differences," the studio met with a whole host of big-name directors before hiring Joe Johnston (Jumanji). The resultant delay caused the movie's release to be pushed back a second time, to November 6. Now Universal has pushed the release date back for a third time, to February 12, 2010. While some have speculated that the delay has to do with the movie's special effects, Universal's Adam Fogelson told Variety that the move was purely for financial reasons.
The Wolfman stars Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving. The first trailer for the movie will debut August 21 before Quentin Tarnatino's Inglourious Basterds.
Next Showing: The Wolfman is scheduled to open February 12, 2010

The Hollywood Reporter is saying on its Risky Biz Blog that Universal and Imagine Studios have plans to remake the 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein, which starred Boris Karloff as "The Monster" and Elsa Lanchester as "The Monster's Bride."
The studios are apparently in talks with Neil Burger to direct the movie and write the screenplay with Dirk Wittenborn. Burger and Wittenborn collaborated on the script for The Lucky Ones, which Burger directed. Burger also wrote and directed The Illusionist and Interview with the Assassin.
The Bride of Frankenstein project represents just one in a series of Universal monster-movie remakes. Benicio Del Toro is starring in a remake of The Wolf Man coming out later this year and the studio also has plans for a new version of the 1954 classic Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Iron Man 2 casting news is all over the web this week, and besides the recent report about Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell in talks to play villains, we know of another potential pick being put out there -- that of The Devil Wears Prada actress Emily Blunt, who's being considered for femme fatale Black Widow.
Variety says she's the frontrunner to play the role of Natasha Romanoff, a sexy Soviet super spy who wears a skin-tight black costume enhanced with high-tech weaponry. Now what would Miranda think about that?!!
Blunt's career will be getting a big boost if this rumor turns out to be true. Her highest profile gig to date will come later this year as leading lady in Benicio Del Toro's The Wolfman.
What do you think? Does Blunt have what it takes to be Black Widow?

Although vampires have been the creatures on everyone's lips lately due to the Twilight phenomenon, New York Magazine is taking stock of an overpowering wave of werewolves on Hollywood's horizon. The pack of cinematic lycanthropes will be led by the January 23 release of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (check out the movie's new poster) to be followed on April 3 by the remake of the Wolf Man starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. And there are a litter of lower budget films and not yet finalized projects -- including a rumored werewolf project with Ridley Scott at the the helm --nipping at their heels. The clincher though for NYM, is the prominence of werewolves in the next two Twilight novels, which Summit Entertainment is making moves toward turning into movies as well, starting with New Moon.
