Twilight leading lady Kristen Stewart has swapped her brown pants and long hair for skinny jeans and a black mullet, in order to play seventies rock icon Joan Jett in The Runaways. Talking to British newspaper The Daily Mail, Stewart said:
I'm just listening to her music all the time. I'm trying to just make myself aware of the time period and what she was going through. It's one of the most immense responsibilities to play a real person. Her story's important. It's an incredibly triumphant feminist story really.
Wow, is that enthusiasm we see? It looks like Stewart has finally found a project to her liking, and it's one that doesn't include vampires, teen romance, or Robert Pattinson. Stewart and the real Joan Jett have already been spotted at a recording studio together, no doubt perfecting Stewart's voice, which was last heard in Into the Wild. It's a good job New Moon filming has wrapped, or Bella would be looking more rock 'n' roll than Stephenie Meyer ever intended her to.

Contain yourself. It's finally official. A Summit Entertainment rep has confirmed that Dakota Fanning will star as Jane in New Moon. The Twilight sequel is set to start shooting later this month in Vancouver. Nikki Reed, the actress playing Rosalie Hale in the film, says they've just received a script for the film.
As we mentioned last week, Fanning is also in talks to star with Kristen Stewart in the '70s biopic The Runaways.

We hope Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning like working together. Not only are the two set to star alongside each other in New Moon, Fanning is negotiating to appear in The Runaways, a biopic of the '70s all-girl band of the same name.
Stewart is already onboard to play a young Joan Jett in the film, and now Fanning is in talks to play lead singer Cheri Curie. The film is expected to begin shooting in the late spring -- right after the two are done with New Moon.

In an interview with Empire about Twilight, Kristen Stewart also revealed some details about her next project, a biopic of Joan Jett called The Runaways. While no casting news regarding who will play the members of her band, which included '80s rocker and popular poster subject Lita Ford, was offered, Stewart gushed about the project: "It's so exciting that I can even talk about it now, because I haven't been allowed to for a really long time. It's about the forming and death of this band [The Runaways], and it launched Joan Jett's career and she became the icon for females in rock and roll. It's an absolutely insane concept for me to even think that I'm going to play her, but apparently I got the job so I'm going to give it all I've got."
The Runaways will start shooting in early 2009, working around Stewart's shooting for New Moon.

Variety reports that Twilight vampire-bait Kristen Stewart will be playing Joan Jett in an upcoming biopic about the 1970s-era all-female teenage rock band, The Runaways. Fronted by Jett and Cherie Currie, the now-mostly-forgotten quintet went platinum on the strength of hits like "Cherry Bomb" and helped pioneer the notion that heavy-metal ladies could rock just as hard -- and pose just as goofily -- as heavy-metal men. Still, if anyone can relaunch a craze for shiny skin-tight catsuits paired with hardcore softball mullets, it's major-star-waiting-to-happen Kristen Stewart. Let's just hope the script is as inspired as the casting choice.
