Carla Gugino is carving out an unusual career that ranges from playing a secret-spy Mom in the family-friendly franchise Spy Kids to a pregnant porn star in Women in Trouble. Gugino is currently re-teaming up with Watchmen's director Zack Snyder in Sucker Punch, playing a character that Gugino told the Palm Beach Post will require her to perform more than just a dual role.
I'm a psychiatrist at an asylum and, in an alternate world, a dominatrix, choreographer and madam in a brothel. I sing and dance. I'm Polish and I have red hair. That's all I'm going to say. I have this amazing scene where I do this wild stunt over and over. All of a sudden I was like, "I'm covered in bruises. How did that happen?"
Gugino told Movieline that she won't be alone in her song and dance routine, either.
Oscar Isaac and myself, we sing a duet. I don't know if I can say what the song is yet, but yes, I do sing and dance.
Gugino and Isaac aren't the only cast members performing musical numbers. Co-star Jamie Chung admitted in September that she, too will be singing in the movie. Gugino agrees with Chung that singing is the scariest part of working on Sucker Punch.
I've just been terrified of singing for most of my life, and of late, I've done so much of it. I did a short film that Joe Gordon-Levitt directed me in where I play a rock singer, and in Elektra Luxx, there's a very small dream sequence where I sing and do a little dance. I'm like, I've gotta get my act together!
Electra Luxx is the sequel to Women in Trouble, which is currently in theaters in limited release. Luxx, which Gugino called a "total independent film homage to Lord of the Rings," was shot before Women even reached theaters. A third movie in the series, Women in Ecstasy, has been written but has not been shot yet.

Jamie Chung revealed to EOnline that Navy SEALs have been brought in to train the cast of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch.
We have Navy SEALs doing physical training, and then we have stunt and fight choreographers from Watchman and 300.
Snyder's action fantasy is clearly going to have a lot of action, with Chung revealing she's already injured herself "doing box jumps," but could Sucker Punch also end up being a musical? Chung says that it's not the physical aspect of the movie but the singing that scares her, with co-stars Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Emily Browning, Carla Gugino, and recent addition Oscar Isaac recording tracks for the movie.
I have to say that's the most terrifying part, because I don't sing. I'm working on it, but just because I'm Korean doesn't mean I karaoke.
Apparently, when Snyder called Sucker Punch "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns" he meant that literally.

Zack Snyder's upcoming Sucker Punch has a confusingly intriguing story that no one seems to be able to properly explain. Snyder has simply called it "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns." Emily Browning says Sucker Punch works on three levels: "a reality, a sub-reality," and a "dream world."
Sucker Punch's story, which follows an institutionalized girl who retreats to an alternate reality to plan her escape, does sound surreal. Browning's co-star, Jamie Chung, is the latest to try to explain the movie, spilling a few details when she spoke to ComingSoon:
[Sucker Punch] takes place in the 1950s and it's a story about a girl who's put into an insane asylum against her will by her evil stepfather. And she goes into these fever dreams to escape. Somehow her alternate reality affects her reality, just like in Alice in Wonderland. All of the characters in her fever dreams are from her real life. And the girls plan to escape and they come up with a plan and things go terribly wrong and it really does affect her reality. It's a great story and there's amazing, amazing fight sequences. It puts 300 to shame!
Chung could not describe her character, but did say that she and her fellow inmates will essentially play two characters, one in the real world and one in the alternate reality — or was it the dream world? Chung also says that Sucker Punch will be "very dark" despite its PG-13 rating and that the title will make sense for the movie. Chung also called Sucker Punch "one of those smart movies that I hadn't seen in a while."
Smart and dark, but PG-13? Seems improbable, though Snyder isn't worried, stating in July that "if you can make Taken PG-13, you can make [Sucker Punch] PG-13."

Zack Snyder finally added a male to his all-female action fantasy Sucker Punch when last week he cast Jon Hamm. Now comes word that Hamm won't be the only guy, with the additions of Oscar Isaac (Che, the upcoming Robin Hood) and Scott Glenn.
Sucker Punch follows an institutionalized girl (Emily Browning) who escapes to an alternate reality to plan her escape. Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, and Jamie Chung play fellow inmates, while Carla Gugino plays a nurse and a madam in the alternate reality. What roles Hamm, Glenn, and Isaac will play is unknown.

Zack Snyder has added the first male actor to his all-female cast for Sucker Punch. Jon Hamm (Mad Men) will play High Roller. Besides the name, little else is known about his character.
Hamm joins Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish, and the recently cast Carla Gugino in the 1950's action-fantasy. The plot centers on a girl sent to a mental institution by her stepfather, who retreats to an alternate reality to plan her escape.

Sucker Punch, the upcoming all-female action movie about a girl trying to escape lobotomy through an alternate reality, has been described by director Zack Snyder as "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns," which does little to clear up the movie's surreal plot. Emily Browning, who replaced Amanda Seyfried when she departed the movie, gave some details that explained the movie in more detail:
The film is a dream in a way. It operates on three levels. A reality, then a sub-reality where the psych ward worldshifts into this strange high-roller's brothel. Then there's this dream world where it goes into these crazy action sequences that are totally removed from time and space.
A movie with three realities? One that's removed from time and space? Now it makes sense. Browning also mentioned that co-star Abbie Cornish "becomes a crazy killing machine and she's decked out in a really cool outfit." Couple that with High School Musical's Vanessa Hudgens kicking and punching her way through the movie and Sucker Punch is starting to shape up pretty well.

Carla Gugino will be re-teaming up with Watchmen director Zack Snyder for Sucker Punch, Snyder's all-girl action movie that he's described as "Alice in Wonderland with guns."
Set in the 1950's, Sucker Punch tells the story of Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is institutionalized by her stepfather and retreats to an alternate reality to plot her escape, along with fellow inmates Jena Malone (Donnie Darko), Abbie Cornish (Stop Loss), Jamie Chung (Dragonball Evolution), and Vanessa Hudgens (in a fighting-and-shooting change of pace from her High School Musical days).
Gugino will play a dual role as both the nurse at the institution and a madam in the alternate reality. For fanboys that want a sneak peek — of sorts — Gugino can be seen next as a porn star in the comedy Women in Trouble this November.

Vanessa Hudgens isn't famous for playing action roles but that's about to change in her next project, Zack Snyder's all-female action movie Sucker Punch. The director told MTV that even he was nervous about bringing in the High School Musical star.
I wasn't sure at first – [the casting people] were like "Oh, Vanessa's coming" and I was "Oh, okay – that sounds cool" but I didn't know what to think. Then I saw the tape and I literally went "Wow, she's good." She's really good.
While Hudgens' role is not the main part (that role went to Emily Browning when Amanda Seyfried was forced to drop out), Snyder sees the smaller role as a plus for Hudgens:
She has a big part, but she's not the center of the movie. It'll allow her to stretch herself and do whatever she wants, and not be too exposed by the movie – but also, on the other hand, do things that people have never seen her do.
What "things" will audiences get to see Hudgens do?
You're going to see her shooting machine guns, fighting, beating the s**t out of people. It's funny – we sat her down for her physical evaluation, and she was really athletic. She's a dancer, so all the [fight] choreography is gonna be fun for her.
The fight choreography is being handled by Damon Caro, who worked on The Bourne Supremacy, and Snyder says the fights have "that [Bourne] vibe." Snyder promises the movie will be "hardcore," even if the rating won't. Snyder insists a PG-13 rating is possible:
If you can make Taken PG-13, you can make this movie PG-13. That's what I believe. Because it's more fantastic. No one really dies in the movie.
Production on Sucker Punch starts soon, with an opening date of March 25, 2011.

Back before its March 6 opening, Watchmen was poised to be a sure-fire hit and the next big thing. Tales of the Black Freighter, an animated version of the pirate comics within the original, was set for release weeks after the opening. A Director's Cut version was also promised a theatrical release.
Then the movie opened, and for those who have been living underground, Watchmen didn't do as well as hoped. The lack of mega-blockbuster success hasn't stopped the Director's Cut from reaching theaters, though. At least, not for one weekend.
Collider reports that director Zack Snyder has announced that for one weekend, "the weekend before Comic-Con in Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis, and New York," to be exact, the Watchmen Director's Cut will play. It's not exactly a worldwide release, but it will have its own poster!

Warner Bros. has decided to delay two upcoming movies, moving possible superhero franchise Green Lantern to June 17, 2011, while Zack Snyder's Watchmen follow-up, Sucker Punch, has been moved from October 2010 to March 25, 2011. The change for Sucker Punch may have come from the recent cast changes, but Green Lantern is now poised to compete with Marvel's big summer, opening a month after Thor and Spider-Man 4, but a month before First Avenger: Captain America.
Clearly, Warner Bros. is feeling confident about Green Lantern, and perhaps they wanted to give director Martin Campbell more time to cast the lead role. With rumors of Bradley Cooper surfacing, Latino Review reports that Shawn Roberts has "auditioned several times" for the part. Roberts just wrapped Campbell's Edge of Darkness, but it may be long-rumored choice Sam Worthington, who has not only Terminator Salvation and Avatar opening this year, but Clash of the Titans in 2010, that Campbell may be holding out for. Worthington told Moviehole:
I've been talking to Martin Campbell about [Green Lantern]. It's one of those things where they're still doing the script. I said, "Give me a script. Let me have a look at it." I like Martin a lot. I met him on the Bond stuff, and I like his work, but the second step is, "Is it a movie that I'd go and see?"
Moving Green Lantern to 2011 sure gives Worthington some time to think about it.
