  • Wanted's Millar Wants to Revive Superman Next

Brandon Routh might want to start looking for a new job.Flush with confidence after the boffo opening of his Wanted, comic book scribe Mark Millar wants to take on none other than perhaps the greatest superhero of them all. Last week he revealed to London's Daily Record that he plans to "reinvent Superman for the 21st century," which I can only assume to mean that he wishes to make the Man of Steel dark, brooding and ultra-violent. That might be just what the doctor ordered after 2006's shrug-inducing Superman Returns, but is it realistic?

Indeed, it appears that Millar's musings may not simply be the delusions of some crazy comic book nerd. "I've been planning this my entire life," he told the Record. "I've got my director and producer set up, and it'll be 2011. This is how far ahead you have to think."

If that's indeed the case, someone might want to give Bryan Singer (director of Superman Returns and the franchise's go-to guy) a heads-up.

  • Sequels Galore for Wanted
If you wished for more Wanted right after seeing it, like many probably did, you’ll end up getting exactly what you wanted. After the huge box-office success it turned out to be, the next two installments of the story are already in the works. Cinema Blend is reporting that Wanted will be made into a trilogy and that James McAvoy and Terence Stamp are both in on the projects. McAvoy’s character will likely end up fighting more corrupt fraternity weavers all over the world and Angelina Jolie may possibly be back for a second go, we'll have to wait and see how they'll work that out. Either way there is a lot more blood soaked, high-octane action on the horizon for fans of Wanted

  • The Wackness Review

The WacknessThis year's winner of the Audience Award for Dramatic Film at Sundance is The Wackness, an ode to life in 1994's New York City when Mayor Giuliani was clamping down. It stars Josh Peck (in his breakout role from Nickelodeon's Drake & Josh) as a pot-dealing high schooler who barters his product for therapy sessions and has a crush on his shrink's step-daughter.

It co-stars Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, The Love Guru) and Olivia Thirlby (Juno, Snow Angels), and opens in select theaters tomorrow.

So what did we think? Check out our review of The Wackness and find out.

Next Showing: The Wackness opens July 3, 2008 in select theaters.

  • Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell Partner for Holmes Flick

Will FerrellA trio of comedy super-heavyweights are teaming up to send up the Sherlock Holmes legend. According to VarietySacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Bruno) and Will Ferrell have signed on to star in a humorous take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved detective stories, with Cohen playing the master Scotland Yard sleuth Holmes and Ferrell playing his intrepid assistant Watson. To complete the trifecta, none other than Judd Apatow is slated to produce. (Curiously, Variety fails to mention a director. These movies don't make themselves, people!)

The Cohen/Ferrell project is not to be confused with Guy Ritchie's upcoming Sherlock Holmes flick, which presumably won't be comedic. At least not intentionally.

  • Exit Tom Cruise, Enter Christian Bale?

Christian Bale, living godMuch is afoot in the world of director Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger). First, Variety announced earlier today that the prolific Australian would be directing Tom Cruise in the cold war spy thriller Edwin A. Salt, about a CIA officer suspected of working with those sneaky Reds. Now, Moviehole is reporting that Cruise is opting out of another planned collaboration with Noyce, the political thriller The 28th Ammendment. But don't weep for poor Philip. Word is that none other than The Dark Knight star Christian Bale might be stepping in to replace Cruise in the lead role, as a newly-elected American president who discovers the truth about who really runs the U.S. government (hint: it's the Freemasons).

Nothing's been confirmed, of course, but it appears that the wheels are indeed in motion to get Bale on board.

  • What a Joker
Oscar buzz is flying all around The Dark Knight. Co-stars of the late Heath Ledger are saying that his performance is one of the best they’ve seen and that he raised the bar for his part as the Joker. Critics who got to see advanced screenings say that his role shows what a masterful actor Ledger was and that it is definitely Oscar worthy. If he does win, it will be only the second posthumous award ever given, the first going to Peter Finch for his work in the 1976 movie, Network.
