• Tim Robbins Won't Be in Iron Man 2

  Perhaps it was wishful thinking, but rumors about Tim Robbins playing Tony Stark's father in Iron Man 2 got a lot of attention last December. However, Robbins told CinemaBlend that the rumors are untrue. See the short interview below:

• Robbins Rumored to Play Tony Stark's Old Man in Iron Man 2

  The Latino Review is reporting that the role of Howard Stark, founder of Stark Industries and father of Tony (a.k.a. Iron Man), may be taken over by Shawshank actor Tim Robbins.

  If this casting rumor is true, director Jon Favreau's decision to dump Gerard Sanders, who appeared in the part for the first movie, will be because of an enhanced role and important story arc which may introduce The Avengers and Captain America in particular.

  This means that the elder Stark (and Robbins) will play a big part in Marvel's multiple comic book movies, and will probably involve Stark's company in the WWII Super Soldier experiment that created Captain America. Such set-up in Iron Man 2 will most certainly follow through in the two other Marvel movies -- already in pre-production.

  Also mentioned as possible players in Iron Man 2 are two other Avengers: Black Widow and Hawkeye.

• Costner Planning Bull Durham Sequel. Seriously.

  Bring it, Meat. Reports have emerged that Kevin Costner is in serious talks to go back to the well and reprise his role as minor-league catcher "Crash" Davis in a sequel to the 1988 romantic comedy Bull Durham. According to The Huffington Post, Costner recently met with writer-director Ron Shelton to discuss a follow-up, the plot of which would allegedly involve Costner's character managing a major league team owned by Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon) and "Nuke" LaLoosh (Tim Robbins, in an apparent violation of the "no sequels" pledge he recently made to MTV).

• Acting dealz: Watts, Hines, and Robbins

  Everybody's favorite MILF Naomi Watts has no plans to rest on her laurels (or diaper pails or baby binkies or whatever) after the upcoming birth of her baby-to-be with Liev Schreiber.

  The very pregnant actress has just signed on to star in The International with Clive Owen, says The Hollywood Reporter. The action thriller about an Interpol agent obsessed with investigating a dodgy banking mogul will be directed by Tom Tykwer (Perfume).

  Curb Your Enthusiasm's Cheryl Hines has signed on to the Luke Wilson romantic comedy Henry Poole Is Here, about a man who finds out he only has six weeks to live, says Variety. It will be directed by Mark Pellington (The Mothman Prophecies).

  And finally, Tim Robbins and Martin Landau have joined Bill Murray in the cast of City of Ember, a quirky story about a town where the only light (from streetlamps) begins to fail. Based on the 2003 novel by Jeanne Duprau, the movie is being shot in Belfast under the direction of Gil Kenan (Monster House), says Variety.

  Most importantly, Tom Hanks is one of the producers. Considering that he also executive produced Starter for Ten, Band of Brothers, and Big Love, this can only mean good things.
