  • Woody Harrelson Oscar Talk + Just Says No

Woody HarrelsonIt may sound rather odd, but Woody Harrelson's name is being tossed around for an Oscar for his role as a US Army captain in the Iraq war drama The Messenger (it opens in NYC on November 13).

What sounds even more odd is that in an interview with the Village Voice's Aaron Hillis, Harrelson politely declined an offer to get high.

You're the only interviewee I've ever thought to ask, but: Would you like to smoke a joint?

Oh! The problem is I have to do some more interviews. I honestly would love to, but I can't do interviews stoned. Sometimes, it can open you up to do great creative things, and sometimes, it's a situation . . . like, I can't act that way. It absolutely freezes me. I can't do a talk show because it goes into the paranoia side. Yeah, I better not. That's a generous offer, but I should be on my game.

  • Moviemakers Toy with True Believers in 2012

2012As Roland Emmerich prepares to end the world in a cascade of disasters for 2012, some true believers are complaining that he's putting too negative a spin on what could be key date in human evolution.

According to Everything Long Beach, twenty-eight cities around the globe are hosting "counter-screenings" to explore the positive transformations that might be expected when the Mayan calendar runs out of days on December 21, 2012. The unlikely title of these conferences is a nod to Dr. Strangelove2012: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Dimensional Shift.

Not that moviemakers mind, of course. Not only was this sort of speculation about 2012 a source of inspiration for the movie, the studio is even funding junkets for one of its chief prophets. New York Magazine reports that, as part of its attempts to heighten the buzz around the movie, the studio is providing financial backing for a conference of 2012-ologists at Yellowstone (which the movie destroys) even though attendees are for the most part describing the upcoming movie as "counter-productive."

Headlining the conference is 2012 guru and psychedelic drug advocate Daniel Pinchbeck, who is described as "equal parts Jesuit and Jim Morrison." The inspiration perhaps for the movie 2012's own Charlie Frost (Woody Harrelson), who continues to deliver his doom-laden guerilla broadcasts from the borderlands between fact and fiction at thisistheend.com.

  • Woody Harrelson, Apocalypse Consultant Leads Off Clips from 2012

Fresh from battling the undead in Zombieland, Woody Harrelson is testing out a new cause in 2012 by spouting off about the end of days on his crackpot radio show. So of course, in this new clip from the movie, an apocalypse-curious Mayan expert (John Cusack) comes to consult him about what exactly is going to set the end of the world in motion. As if the ramshackle room he's broadcasting from weren't deterrent enough, Harrelson's character further undermines his credibility by answering the question with a cute little cartoon he's cooked up to explain it all. From the look in Cusack's eyes you can seen that he's no longer so sure that this is the apocalypse prognosticator he's been looking for.

This is the first footage from the movie to really go beyond the roller coaster-ride aspects of ending the world, instead dipping into the crazy in-character humor that Harrelson has been teasing on his blog since early this year. On top of that, the studio has released some behind-the-scenes footage offering a look at the president (Danny Glover) being forced to acknowledge that the cardboard crazies were right.

  • Woody Harrelson Almost Passed on Zombieland

ZombielandZombieland is a surprisingly fresh take on the zombie sub-genre of horror films, equal parts buddy road movie, romantic comedy, and splatter-fest. Sure, there are the prerequisite scenes of grotesque, slow-motion cannibalism that zombie films are known for, but there are also many poignant scenes between the misfit cast of characters.

Now that the film is a proven success, with a sequel on the way, it seems like a no-brainer (zombie pun intended) for actor Woody Harrelson to view Zombieland as a vehicle for connecting with a whole new audience of young movie fans. But, Harrelson confesses, he did not feel that way when he was first approached with the project.

The one genre I don't watch is horror. I get nightmares. For some reason, it really scares me.

I was like, "Zombies, dude? Really?" Then, finally, I read it and thought it was just phenomenal. [They're] more of a backdrop that brings all these characters together.

  • Zombieland nearing Sequel?

ZombielandZombieland didn't keep its top spot at the box office over the weekend, instead landing at a respectable #2 with $15 million. With the modestly made zombie comedy already earning twice its budget, is there a sequel in the works? Zombieland co-screenwriter Paul Wernick told ShockTillYouDrop before the weekend that a sequel comes down to money.

The push for the sequel, well, the studio just has to get into it with everyone about budgets and next steps. It all depends on box office. We'll be watching it closely this weekend to see how it progresses.

With Zombieland performing well, money may not be the problem. Luckily, the entire cast is excited to return, Wernick told MTV, particularly Woody Harrelson.

Everyone involved creatively wants to do another one. Woody came up to us after the final cut of the last scene and gave us a hug and said, "I've never wanted to do a sequel in the previous movies I've done until this one."

Wernick and fellow screenwriter Rhett Reese are certainly ready to go with material.

It has lived in our heads for four-and-a-half years. We developed it and wrote it as a spec TV pilot in the summer of 2005. We've got a long brainstorming document that still to this day gets updated on a near-weekly basis with ideas. We've got tons of new ideas swimming in our head.

Wernick indicated that director Ruben Fleischer would also come back for a sequel, though THR reports the director is being approached with three other possible projects, including a Will Ferrell comedy called Daddy's Home, the sci-fi comedy Neighborhood Watch, and a movie reboot of the TV show 21 Jump Street starring Jonah Hill.

If Zombieland 2 is going to get that pesky green light, the studio had better hurry.

  • The Director of Zombieland Speaks

ZombielandZombieland took first place at the box office last weekend with its blend of comedy and zombie-killing action. While a zombie movie at #1 is still a surprise, what's more surprising is that Zombieland is the first movie Ruben Fleischer has ever directed. Creativity asked Fleischer how a first-time director, who wasn't much of a zombie fan, ended up directing a movie like Zombieland.

I started out as an assistant to a director on two movies, Miguel Arteta. The movies I worked on were Chuck and Buck and The Good Girl. I didn't even know I wanted to be a director until I started working with Miguel. I just needed a job and it just turned out I really liked being on set and he was a great mentor. When I started trying to become a director, I started shooting low budget short films, 50-dollar music videos, making my own stuff. That eventually led to commercials. The goal I guess was ultimately to do a feature, but I wasn't in a position to do features, and since I wasn't a writer, I wasn't going to write my own movie that I was going to try and make, so I had to just keep working until I could realistically be considered for a film.

I had an agent and a while ago I was attached to direct this other movie at Paramount called Psycho Funky Chimp, which was a really funny, funny script, but Paramount basically just decided they were never going to make it so I had to start looking for other opportunities and I read Zombieland and loved it and went very aggressively after it.

Since Zombieland was still a TV pilot script at that point, Fleischer got the job by adding an ending.

Because it was a TV show, it didn't conclude in a very satisfying way. It was naturally meant to lead to the second episode. So basically I pitched the idea of having it go to an amusement park as the place the little kid character wants to go, which would give it a destination for the movie to have, and I also knew it would be a really cool place to have a giant zombie battle.

Fleischer admits that a huge part of Zombieland's success came from the cast, which assembled pretty quickly after Woody Harrelson was convinced to appear.

Definitely, Woody was first. I definitely had to convince him to be involved. I think he was a little reluctant about doing a zombie movie, but I put together a big visual presentation to show him what I had planned, and that was enough for him to sign on. It was print, but basically reference points for who I thought his character was like, the landscape. I really was thinking about this movie a lot in the terms of a western, like Sergio Leone, so I allowed him to see it was just not a straightforward zombie movie, but it could be something bigger and better. Once we got Woody on board, it was a lot easier to get everyone else.

Once on the set, Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg couldn't stop improvising.

We definitely did improv, both Jesse and Woody are amazing improvisers. It was really fun, once we got the script to let them just go and see what they came up with and they're both so talented that a lot of the lines that get laughs are improvised ones. I was a little nervous at first working with that level of guys, but they made it very easy for me and were open to doing whatever we needed to do. They were everything you could ask for, it was aweseome. And Abigail Breslin was incredible, like the most talented young woman in the world.

So after scoring a number one comedy, what's next for Fleischer? A possible pilot and loads more commercials. What, no blockbuster movie projects?

Hopefully at the end of the year consider another feature film, but I really want to go after commercials hard.

So far no word on Zombieland 2, but if the movie enjoys continued success, it Fleischer won't be working on commercials for very much longer.

  • A Tidal Wave Primer from 2012

2012Nearly all of the scenes from 2012 that have been teased so far have been way over the top, few more so than the iconic image of waves washing over the Himalayas. Now a new featurette goes behind the scenes with director Roland Emmerich and the visual effects team, not so much to explain how they made the waves, but to giddily recount what an exciting challenge it was creating something so unbelievably huge. Everyone involved really does seem to be having an awful lot of fun destroying the world. Along the way, we get some interesting new snippets from the movie, including a glimpse of what a worldwide chain of tsunamis might look like on a global weather monitor.

Despite the big-name actors — John Cusack, Woody Harrelson — involved in 2012, clearly most of the energy going into the movie is all about the visual effects. And really, what else would you expect from the director who gave us the Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day?

Just in case you have any lingering doubts, check out the "actors version" of the extended disaster sequence released the other day. It edits out all of those distracting special effects, so you can concentrate on the plot and the dialogue. Still, it does look like this movie is going to be a pretty entertaining roller-coaster ride.

  • Zombieland Reviews

ZombielandWhen you hear that Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg are co-starring in a movie, you think it's probably a remake of The Odd Couple. Instead it's a zombie movie with reviews on par with 2004's zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead.

9"Zombieland is a movie made by horror nerds for their fellow fright dweebs. Those who've spent way too many dateless Saturday nights poring over the collective oeuvre of George Romero, Lucio Fulci, and Stuart Gordon will instantly fall in love with this sly combination of satire, slapstick, and splatter."

    — Bill Gibron, filmcritic.com

8"...a polished, very funny road picture shaped by wisenheimer cable-TV sensibilities and starring four likable actors, each with an influential following."

    — Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

8"Zombieland leans heavily on the comedy side of the horror-comedy equation. For a zombie movie, it's largely devoid of suspense and scares; instead, it focuses on the comic possibilities of four misfits indulging their most cherished fantasies under the bleakest circumstances imaginable."

    — Nathan Rabin, Onion AV Club

8"By now there have been quite enough zombie comedies to constitute a little subgenre of their own. If Zombieland doesn't grade at the head of its class — the valedictorian still being Shaun of the Dead — this lively splatstick item is nonetheless way above the remedial likes of Zombie Strippers, to name one among many recent lower-budgeters."

    — Dennis Harvey, Variety

    8"A bloody, disgusting blast."

    — Michael Rechtshaffen, Hollywood Reporter

  • Zombieland Unleashes More Photos and Clips

The promotional campaign for Zombieland is taking a cue from its athletic, running zombies with a sprint towards its October 2 release date. A new batch of photos have been unearthed, this time showing more varied zombie attacks and less of the zombie clown that appears in the movie. Instead, a spoiler clip of Jesse Eisenberg and the zombie clown going head-to-head can be seen below.

A second clip on MySpace, this one red-band, shows Woody Harrelson and Eisenberg's initial meeting with Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin.

A third Zombieland clip shows a fake newscast about the zombie outbreak, and may be just a viral video rather than a clip from the actual movie:

Lastly, Eisenberg and Harrelson are back to offer even more tips on how to survive Zombieland.

For those zombie fans foaming at the mouth to see Zombieland, cash for a Zombieland movie ticket can be gained by purchasing Sony's Horror Unleashed titles on DVD. With an in-store purchase of zombie classic Night of the Creeps, or other horror titles like Zombie Strippers, Fright Night, Hostel and more, $10 cash is awarded in Zombieland movie cash.

  • Photos Herald a New Wave of Promotion for 2012

2012The end of days is going to be very thoroughly marketed. Sony is planning a big new promotional push for Roland Emmerich's over-the-top muti-pocalypse flick 2012.

A series of recently released stills from the movie is only the first wave, but it's an interesting one. We get a first look at Danny Glover as the president and a crazed-looking Woody Harrelson (aka Charlie Frost, Apocalypse Prognosticator) creeping around with binoculars, along with more glimpses of the collapse of civilization.

It's the next wave of marketing that promises to be the real tsunami though. The studio has announced that it is planning to air a two-minute clip from the movie simultaneously on nearly all broadcast and cable outlets between 10:50 and 11 p.m ET/PT on October 1st. It should be quite the tease. The scene is a cliff-hanger, and viewers will have to log on to fancast.com or Comcast On Demand in order to see its conclusion in an extended five-minute sequence.

  • Jesse Eisenberg Addresses Rumors About Role in Facebook Movie

Jesse EisenbergDuring an interview for the upcoming Zombieland, MTV Movies asked Jesse Eisenberg about the rumors he will star as Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, which begins filming in October and will be released sometime next year.

When asked very pointedly if the rumors were true, Eisenberg evasively answered, "They are rumors; that is true." He then fumbled for a graceful exit from the conversation, but definitely left some room for interpretation.

The Social Network is being helmed by David Fincher, who also directed Benjamin Button, Zodiac, and Fight Club. This prompted Eisenberg's Zombieland co-star Woody Harrelson, who was also present for the interview, to ask Eisenberg how he could possibly say no. Eisenberg simply responded (unconvincingly, in our opinion), "I'm sure you could find a reason to say no."

The script for the movie was penned by Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, Charlie Wilson's War) and tells the story of how Zuckerberg created Facebook in 2004 while a sophomore at Harvard. In the five years since, Facebook has amassed more than 200 million users. Sorkin adapted his script from the Ben Mezrich book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal.

Kevin Spacey is acting as one of the producers and has already expressed great excitement over the project. Other rumored stars include Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield.

  • Sony Picks Up Woody Harrelson's Defendor

Woody Harrelson as the DefendorActor Woody Harrelson's independent "dramedy" about a wannabe superhero, Defendor, was a relatively unknown production until a teaser trailer was released in advance of the Toronto Film Festival. The clip generated considerable buzz on the Internet and was well-received in Toronto. Now it appears the film will get the kind of wide release that it will need to compete at the box office.

According to THR, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group is in final negotiations to purchase the worldwide release rights to Defendor, with the single exception being Canada, where Alliance will be releasing the movie. Defendor is the directorial debut of actor Peter Stebbings and also stars Kat Dennings, Sandra Oh, and Elias Koteas.

  • New Zombieland Pics Reveal Zombies Really Hate Jesse Eisenberg

ZombielandColumbia Pictures has unearthed some new, zombie-filled photos from its upcoming zombie comedy Zombieland, most of which seem to pit Jesse Eisenberg in extreme, undead danger.

Zombieland is less than a month away from release, and early buzz has been positive. An early script review praised the movie, saying it "had all the potential to be a terrific comedy that just happens to involve zombies" and a recent reader review at SlashFilm confirms a high laughter ratio.

I had been on the fence about the movie, I wasn't sure if I wanted to see it or not. I've never been the biggest fan of zombie films (too much rotting flesh for my taste), but I love Woody Harrelson and everything I had seen from it so far looked really funny. As it turns out, I was laughing too hard most of the time to really get a very good look at the zombies, anyway.

Whether or not the zombies get the better of Eisenberg will be revealed when Zombieland opens October 2. The movie stars Harrelson, Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin.

  • New International Trailer for 2012

2012When the world ends, it will have Japanese subtitles — this week at least.

Sony has released a new Japanese trailer for Roland Emmerich's mega-apocalypse flick 2012. Even more eye candy for those entranced by well-choreographed scenes from the collapse of world civilization. This time we also get a bit more "I told you so" from the crazed prophets of doom, with a shot of a sign warning that the end is near and some doom-laden voiceover from Charlie Frost, Apocalypse Prognosticator (Woody Harrelson), who looks to be one of the more entertaining characters in the movie.

There's no actual footage of him here, but Harrelson has been kicking up quite a storm online and in character with intermittent video rants patiently explaining that there is no point planning past 2012. All in all, a good reminder that Emmerich aims to take the edge the end of days with a dash of humor and irony.

  • Zombieland Screenwriters Talk the Movie's Genesis, Celebrity Cameos, and More
    Zombieland

The upcoming zombie comedy Zombieland follows an unlikely pair, Jesse Eisenberg's frightened Columbus and Woody Harrelson's gung-ho zombie slayer Tallahassee, as they drive cross country trying to stay alive in the wake of a zombie apocalypse. FirstShowing spoke with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and learned that the movie had a peculiar beginning, as Reese explained how Zombieland started out as a TV pilot:

That's indeed why we wrote it, because we looked at the landscape and there had been a lot of zombie movies, but there had never been a zombie television show. And so we thought very mercenarily, wouldn't it be cool to see zombies on TV? And it was ironic that now we're headed into theaters where we weren't sure we wanted to go at the beginning, but now we're thrilled to be there.

It took the blessing of a legendary horror director to start them on the path to making Zombieland a movie, says Wernick:

We sat in a room right at the onset of that with John Carpenter and he had read the hour long version, our pilot version, and absolutely loved it. I remember him sitting there saying — [producer Gavin Polone] said, "Well, what would you do with it?" And he said, "I'd go shoot it." And I thought, "Oh my god, how incredible!" Such an icon and he loved the script and we were so excited.

Now Zombieland is hitting theaters with a big cast, especially for a zombie movie, that includes Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin alongside Harrelson and Eisenberg, and even some big name cameos have been rumored from Matthew McConaughey and Bill Murray. Neither writer would announce who will be making a cameo, though they did say who will not.

The cameo was re-written "about 10 or 15 times" in an attempt to bring a celebrity to the project, with a wish list that included Joe Pesci, Mark Hamill, The Rock, Jean-Claude Van Damme, even Bill Clinton. Eventually, when no one would agree to appear in the movie, the writers asked Harrelson to make the call that helped them land "the best person of all" for a cameo Reese described as a "pretty crucial role." Wernick says the role will be "at least five to ten minutes of the movie,." Whoever it is, Reese says the celebrity is "better than any of the other names by far and the only reason we didn't go to him first or go to him earlier is because we thought we would never, ever, ever, ever, ever be able to get him."

Besides being a zombie movie with well-known actors and celebrity cameos, Zombieland sets itself apart from other zombie movies in other ways as well. Reese says the movie is a blending of genres:

    It's a road movie, it's a buddy movie, it's an action-comedy.

Wernick also described it as a "romantic comedy" as well. Don't worry, horror fans, it's also still a zombie movie, but one that won't be the standard, run-of-the-mill, zombie flick:

I think the challenge when you're dealing with a genre that people know a lot about is to be able to tell it in a compelling new way. We didn't want to start with a General coming on TV and saying everybody stay in your houses and seeing scenes of riots in the streets and horses rearing up and balls of flame and all those things. So instead we jumped right into it and we used this device called the "47 Rules for Surviving Zombieland" to help drive the beginning of the movie. And you don't even have to meet the lead character right away. You learn some of his strategies before you even meet him. It's just a different way to go about it and I think we were encouraged to do that because the genre was so well known.

Some of the "Rules" have been displayed in a few clips that include tips on weapons and techniques that will keep yourself alive in a world filled with zombies.

  • New Red Band Zombieland Trailer Shows The Cast's Favorite Kills

Anyone who likes zombie movies has a favorite kill scene, whether it's the disembowelment from George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead or the lawnmower sequence from Peter Jackson's cult classic Brain Dead, but the upcoming zombie comedy Zombieland looks to create all-new zombie-killing favorites that have a little more panache than simply "shooting for the head."

As reported by io9, the cast was asked about their favorite zombie-killing method at the San Diego Comic-Con and here's what they said:

    Woody Harrelson: Chainsaw.
Emma Stone: There's a part in the movie where I butted a zombie in the back of the head with my shotgun, and he fell 80 feet to his death.
Jesse Eisenberg: The end of the movie takes place in this theme park where I ran past this ride that's like this huge swing, knowing that if I pass it at a certain speed and time, the zombies that were chasing me would get hit by it, and it's awesome.
Director Ruben Fleischer: My favorite was in the first trailer where we did the "Zombie Kill of the Week" and we dropped a piano on a zombie's head.

Some of those favorite scenes are briefly seen in the new red-band trailer, available at Fleischer's own website. How many you can find?

  • New Zombieland Poster

Columbia Pictures revealed the poster for Zombieland, the upcoming comedy with Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), and Emma Stone (Superbad) — and a possible cameo from Matthew McConaughey. For a zombie movie, it has a surprising amount of Hollywood talent, especially with a first-time director in Ruben Fleischer.

Harrelson explained to ShockTilYouDrop that his involvement in the movie started with the script, written by former reality TV writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick:

No, I never thought about [being in a zombie movie] honestly until I saw and read the script. I thought the script was phenomenal. And then I met Reuben and really liked him and I thought this guy is a go-getter. He's really going to make a terrific movie and so far I'm really impressed with him.

Early buzz on Zombieland has been very positive. A script review praised Zombieland, saying the movie "has all the potential to be a terrific comedy that just happens to involve zombies the way The Blues Brothers is a terrific comedy that just happens to be a car chase movie, or the original Caddyshack was a terrific comedy that masqueraded itself as a sports movie."

That's pretty high praise. Particularly for a zombie movie.

  • No Matthew McConaughey Cameo in New Zombieland Trailer

The trailer for Zombieland premieres today before showings of Year One, which, considering Year One's early reviews, could be a bad thing for the horror comedy starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone.

The trailer is already available online, and while it looks terrific, it features none of the rumored cameos from Bill Murray and, possibly, Matthew McConaughey. Zombieland make-up artist Tony Gardner started the McConaughey rumor months ago by telling MTV: "I think Matthew McConaughey has a cameo."

McConaughey's publicist denied it, saying, "[We do not know] anything about this project. Nor do we know anything about his involvement in a project such as the one you mentioned.” Abigail Breslin was suspiciously curt on whether the Texan surfer will show up: "Oh...I...yeah. I can't say. You have to wait and see it."

October 9 is a long ways off, Abigail. Until then, enjoy Zombieland's first official, and McConaughey-less, trailer:

  • More Hints About the 2012 Apocalypse

2012When he is not too busy fighting off zombie paparazzi, Woody Harrelson has been twittering and video-blogging the 2012 apocalypse as the mad prophet of doom, Charlie Frost, Apocalypse Prognosticator.

Now he is joined on line by fellow cast member John Cusack in what is mocked up to be a review for a new novel titled Farewell Atlantis. "Set in the year 2012 against a backdrop of cosmological speculation and apocalyptic Mayan prophesy," this book is purportedly the work of one Jackson Curtis. From the promo picture though, it's evident that "Jackson Curtis" is actually Cusack, and it turns out that Farewell Atlantis was the original title for the movie 2012. The effusive forward to the book fleshes out the Cusack character as a writer and environmentalist with a host of superlatives, and a sketch of the novel's plot hints at more than a few parallels with that of the movie.

Other suggestions about where 2012 may be headed are outlined by a source who claims to have seen a second draft of the script and has posted some highlights. The immediate cause of the apocalypse, he confirms, is "crustal displacement," long a favorite of those who actually believe that 2012 will be the end of the world. And the destruction of the White House in 2012, if this account is correct, could be a spectacle on the order of what we saw in Independence Day.

  • 2012 Unveils Charlie Frost "Apocalypse Prognosticator"

Woody HarrelsonNo apocalypse is complete without some crazy guy ranting about how we're all gonna die. In the case of Roland Emmerich's 2012, this role appears to be filled, at least initially, by a really scraggly-looking Woody Harrelson, aka Charlie Frost "Apocalypse Prognosticator." You can catch some of his highly-entertaining doom-filled video-blogging over at the End of Days site, which is part of a viral marketing campaign for the upcoming movie. In addition to dire warnings about how hopeless it all is, he introduces a cartoon synopsis of the over-the-top 2012 plot, tying together Mayan prophesy, rare planetary alignments, random crackpot scientists and Albert Einstein in illuminating this planet's expiration date.

  • Harrelson mulls joining Singleton's A-Team

Harrelson in Semi-ProLast month Collider.com reported that A-Team director John Singleton, currently hard at work assembling the cast for his big screen update of the classic '80s TV series, had targeted Woody Harrelson as his ideal choice to play the team's eccentric pilot H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock. We caught up with Harrelson over the weekend at the Semi-Pro press day to find out if he's up for it:

"I like John Singleton and the script's pretty good -- it's actually funny," said Harrelson. "It doesn't take itself too seriously. It's got quite a bit of good humor and quite a bit of excitement -- one of those fast-paced, edge-of-your seat kinds of rides."

"I haven't talked to John lately, but it might be good to work with him on that," he added.

Despite his fondness for The A-Team's script -- and for its director -- Harrelson has yet to commit. "I'm just really kinda going slow about making decisions and doing the next thing," said Harrelson. "I think I had a little period in my life where I'd say yes too easily to something or I'd get involved in something where I was like, 'Oh jeez, what am I doing?'"

We understand his reticence. Nobody wants another Starsky & Hutch.
