Universal Pictures has released two new TV spots for Michael Mann's Public Enemies, which opens on July 1.
The movie is based on the Bryan Burrough book Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34, which tells the stories behind the rise and fall of 1930s Chicago gangster John Dillinger. FBI agent Melvin Purvis pursued Dillinger and eventually gunned him down outside the Biograph Theater at the age of 31.
The spots feature Johnny Depp, who plays Dillinger; Christian Bale, who plays Purvis; and Marion Cotillard, who plays Dillinger's girlfriend and accomplice.

Universal has just released two new TV spots for Michael Mann's Public Enemies, which opens July 1.
As expected, there's lots of crass attitude, usually in the form of tommy-gun fire. The second spot in particular feels very Scarface (the '30s version) or Bonnie and Clyde, with emphasis not only on explosive violence, but also the spectacle of gangster celebrity.
Christopher Nolan regular Michael Caine confirmed he will appear in the director's upcoming sci-fi thriller Inception:
I have a little part in it, yes. Just a tiny part. Chris and I are very good friends so I’ll do that little part. I think I’ll work about three days. It’ll be extraordinary, wait until you see this one. I think if I say another word he’s going to kill me!
With Joseph Gordon-Levitt recently joining the cast, and Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard and Cillian Murphy already on board, this is turning out to be quite an ensemble. No new details about the movie's plot was revealed, with Inception remaining shrouded in secrecy.

Leonardo DiCaprio's getting some company for Christopher Nolan's Inception that reads like a who's who of indie movie all-stars. Variety reports that Warner Bros is negotiating with Juno's Ellen Page, La Vie En Rose's Marion Cotillard and Sunshine and Nolan semi-regular Cillian Murphy to join the cast of the Nolan-scripted sci fi thriller.
DiCaprio will play a CEO type, and Cotillard is reportedly playing his wife. Page will play a grad student that is DiCaprio's sidekick.

The powers that be in Palm Springs are announcing this year's honorees. Sean Penn will receive the Director of the Year award for his work on Into the Wild. Previous director honorees include Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Ang Lee, which means that acknowledgement of this sort heavily favors Penn for getting a Best Director nod come Oscar time.
Marion Cotillard will be receiving the Breakthrough Performance Award for La Vie en Rose, and Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray) and Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) will be receiving the Rising Star awards.
The 19th annual Palm Springs Film Festival will take place from Jan. 3-14, 2008. The awards will be given out at a gala on January 5.

Today is deal day for Hollywood's beauties.
Director Rob Marshall and producer Harvey Weinstein are in talks with Penelope Cruz (Volver, Vanilla Sky), Marion Cotillard (A Good Year, La Vie en Rose), Sophia Loren (Grumpier Old Men) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago, No Reservations) to star in Nine, the film adaptation of the musical based on Fellini's 8 1/2.
Javier Bardem (Collateral) will be playing the lead, a man named Guido Contini who has trouble balancing all the women in his life, says Variety. Cruz will play his mistress and Cotillard his wife. Marshall and Weinstein are trying to convince Zeta-Jones to play his nurse and Loren the ghost of his mother.
And model Natalie Martinez is in talks to star opposite Jason Statham (War, Crank) in the upcoming remake of Death Race. It will be the former model's first feature film, says The Hollywood Reporter.
