• John C. Reilly and Mary-Louise Parker Join Cast of Red

  Earlier this week, Helen Mirren officially joined the cast of the upcoming movie adaptation of the graphic novel Red. She took her place alongside a cast that already includes Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman.

  Now, The Hollywood Reporter writes that John C. Reilly and Mary-Louise Parker have signed on as the newest additions.

  The story of Red was written by noted author Warren Ellis and illustrated by Cully Hamner. It focuses on a menial clerk, Paul Moses (Willis), who is actually a CIA operative with a long history of killing enemies of the state. He must come out of retirement when the new CIA director (Freeman) discovers his past and orders his death. Mirren is rumored for the part of Moses' former boss, although it is unclear how much screen time she will have, if any.

  Reportedly, Reilly will portray a retired CIA agent with a streak of paranoia while Parker will play Moses's love interest, a pension worker who helps Moses in his struggle to survive.

  Red is being helmed by Flightplan director Robert Schwentke and will begin shooting in Toronto and Louisiana this coming January. Summit Entertainment has scheduled a November 19, 2010 release.

• Helen Mirren Joins Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis in Red

  It appears that Helen Mirren plans to cash in on the comic-book craze. Screen Daily writes that the 64-year-old Oscar-winning actress will star opposite Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman in the movie adaptation of the graphic novel Red.

• Bruce Willis To Go Red

  Bruce Willis is set to play an ex-CIA agent chased by a high-tech assassin in the comic book adaptation of writer Warren Ellis and artist Cully Hamner's Red. The movie will start shooting in January, according to Mania.

  Robert Schwentke (The Time Traveler's Wife) is directing the project and told MTV in August that the script will stray from Ellis' 3-issue series.

  The script that I've read is obviously different from the comic, because I don't think the comic gives you enough for a two-hour movie. It's very funny, which the comic book isn't. It's not as violent as the comic book. I like switching gears and this is a movie that allows me to do something lighthearted in tone and is also an action movie.

  Morgan Freeman is also set to appear in the movie in the unexplained role of "Joe." Erich and Jon Hoeber (Whiteout) adapted the screenplay.

• The Time Traveler's Wife Says No to Sci-Fi

  Whenever you hear the name The Time Traveler's Wife, do you automatically think it must be a sci-fi movie? Although the title would suggest it is, director Robert Schwentke wants you to know one thing: it isn't. Talking to Sci Fi Wire, he said:

  "At the heart of every time-travel narrative there is a paradox, and at some point you just have to roll with it. Since Henry doesn't really change anything in the past that significantly affects anything but personal choices and personal outcome, we kind of tried to run the other way [from the sci-fi] as fast as we could."

  On the subject of the sci-fi heavy effects, he explained how his team didn't let them get in the way of their story:

  "We didn't have the luxury of having finished visual effects to put in, so we did these really primitive wipes. That's really what they were. We watched the movie with those effects and realized how very little hinged on these effects being fantastically, wonderfully done. Not that they're not wonderfully done, but we became very aware that we needed to downplay them, that they shouldn't get in the way of anything, so it didn't feel at any turn like you're watching a different movie.

  It sounds like epic romance is the order of the day for Time Traveler's Wife promotion, with no mention of sci-fi anywhere to be seen. We have to agree. The book isn't about Henry's ability to magically disappear, it's about his relationships and how it affects those around him — and the movie should be, too.

• First Time Traveler's Wife Trailer & Teaser Poster

  A trailer for New Line's The Time Traveler's Wife has been released online, as well as an image of the first teaser poster.

  The Time Traveler's Wife is the story of Henry DeTamble, a man who involuntarily time travels between his past and future. Based on the best-selling novel by Audrey Niffenegger, it's a sci-fi story with a twist, and a romance to rival Titanic.

  Starring Eric Bana (The Hulk) and Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls), and directed by Robert Schwentke, the movie looks sure to please fans of the book. Bana looks the part of a librarian, and we all know McAdams is a master of tugging at heartstrings — two minutes of The Notebook and most eyes well up. We're betting this will be huge with the female crowd — epic romance is all the rage these days.
