  • Mr. & Mrs. Smith To Be Rebooted as Mr. & Mrs. Jones?

Mr. & Mrs. SmithWhether you love his movies or despise them, it's hard to deny that writer-producer Akiva Goldsman is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.

Sure, Goldsman is responsible for writing the disastrous Batman & Robin, which was recently named the "Worst Movie Ever" by Empire, but he also wrote the screenplay for the multiple Academy Award-winning movie A Beautiful Mind.

Goldsman continues to write (2009's Angels & Demons), but is far more active as a producer. He currently has The Losers in the can, is in post-production on Jonah Hex after a series of reshoots, and has more than a dozen other movies in various stages of development, including several high-profile comic book movie adaptations.

The latest Goldsman news has the prolific producer revisiting his 2005 movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which scored big at home and abroad, as well as had the highest domestic grossing of any Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie movie. So a sequel seems like a given. Only, there's a catch: According to Empire, Goldsman will not be bringing back "Brangelina" to star in the new movie. Rather, it will have completely different characters and a new title, Mr. & Mrs. Jones. This time the movie's lead actors will play spies who must find a way to get along while pretending to be married to one another.

The Empire article is short on details and the writer does concede that the news comes from "Rumour Mountain." However, a complete reboot does make sense from a practical standpoint, considering the entire "hook" of the original plot (and all of the comedy) stemmed from Mr. and Mrs. Smith pretending to be a typical married couple, all the while hiding from each other the fact that they are both hired assassins. Now that the secret is out, a sequel with Pitt and Jolie wouldn't be much more than an edgier version of Hart to Hart. Another obvious reason to reboot the franchise rather than move forward with a sequel is to avoid the high fees that go with hiring the power couple to reprise their roles. Still, rumor or not, it seems like a hard sell without Jolie and Pitt involved.

  • Creator Mark Millar Updates Wanted 2

As far back as July 2008, there was talk of a sequel to Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted, the highly successful adaption of the comic book series created by Mark Millar. With the exception of the news that James McAvoy and Terence Stamp would reprise their roles, and that Bekmambetov was willing to explore the possibility of bringing Angelina Jolie's character back from the dead, there has been virtually nothing more heard about the planned second act of what might turn into a trilogy of Wanted movies until now.

In a recent interview with IGN, Millar spoke about how he was afraid the first Wanted was going to be "rubbish," and then divulged some news about Wanted 2, including the fact that Jolie will be involved in some way, which had not been previously confirmed. If you don't have the time to watch the entire clip below (or if you simply have a hard time with his thick Scottish accent), Millar starts dropping major clues about the progress of Wanted 2 at about 3:08. And, if you're wondering why Millar is sitting in front of a bunch of Kick-Ass posters during the interview, it's because he is also the creator of that upcoming comic book adaptation. In fact, Millar has an entire line of "Millarworld" comic book titles, several of which are being developed for the silver screen.

In addition to the news about Jolie joining the Wanted 2 production, Millar relayed these interesting bits of information:

    The script is almost ready.

I can't really be exact when it's going to start shooting ... but it will be soon.

It follows on immediately after the end of the first movie.

  • Wanted Director Thinks He Can Bring Back Angelina Jolie for Wanted 2
    Angelina Jolie

Russian director Timur Bekmambetov scored a huge hit with the bullet-bending visuals of Wanted, the adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book. With James McAvoy and Terence Stamp returning for the sequel, Bekmambetov would like Angelina Jolie back as well. There's only one small problem — her final scene in Wanted.

"She was kind of ... dead," Bekmambetov told MTV.

Not that death should prohibit a character's return. Not in a comic book movie, anyway. Bekmambetov has a plan for Jolie's return:

If you remember from the first film, we have a recovery room with the baths of wax. We know how to do this, but it's still tough to do, because the bullet is inside her head. But there has to be a reason for her to come back ... and we know the reason. I think we found the reason for her to come back.

Bekmambetov believes they will make Wanted 2 "this winter," though Jolie's return is still far from certain, especially after Jolie insisted her character be killed in Wanted.

In the original, she doesn't kill herself. I actually changed the ending. I said, "If she was to find out she had killed people unjustly and was a part of something that wasn't fair, then she should take her own life.

Bekmambetov better have a good "plan."

  • Terminator Salvation Producer Talks Sherlock Holmes and Lara Croft Prequel

At the US premiere of Terminator Salvation, About.com interviewed producer Dan Lin, who talked about, among other things, a couple of his upcoming projects. Lin is producing Sherlock Holmes -- directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law -- and a prequel to Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which is not yet in production and has no one attached to it.

Here's what he had to say about Sherlock Holmes:

The tone is period Butch and Sundance. It's almost like a buddy cop movie set in the period world. Like Butch and Sundance, it's action-oriented, but there's definitely comedy to it. It's really about these two guys, Sherlock and Watson, who basically they're best friends and there's an incident that sets them apart and they have to come back together at the end of the movie.

Sherlock Holmes reimagined as Butch Cassidy? Interesting notion.

Lin then gave some details about the Lara Croft project, which will be a prequel to the other two movies.

Really excited -- it's a great origin story that we're going to tell. A very character-oriented, I would say more realistic than the past Lara Croft movies ... I would say it's like Terminator -- character-driven action. I think for me the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character.

The movie will also require a re-casting, since it involves a Lara Croft significantly younger than Angelina Jolie.

You can view the interview in its entirety here.

  • Yes on Tomb Raider Reboot, No on Megan Fox

Megan FoxMere days ago, speculation had Megan Fox possibly replacing Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in a possible 3rd entry to the Tomb Raider series. Now a few reports have come out to clear up the "possible" rumors.

First, a reboot of the series is in development, says The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros., and not Paramount, who made the first two Tomb Raiders, is looking to completely retell the Lara Croft origin story with a new love interest and villain, and, presumably, a renewed dedication to hotness when looking for the new Lara Croft. So that makes Fox a lock, right? Right?

Not so, says io9, who were told by a spokesperson for Megan Fox that "She's not involved in the movie at all." She also won't be Wonder Woman. But don't worry, Photoshop-savvy Megan Fox fans. With the movie still in development, and no writer or director attached yet, Fox is still a, well, possibility.

  • Jolie Tops List of Best Paid Actresses

Angelina JolieAngelina Jolie, who has talked about retiring from acting, should probably bite the bullet and try to endure for a few more years. According to Hollywood Reporter, she was the world's highest-paid actress in 2008, earning $23.2 million for Wanted. In addition, she's in line for a raise on Wanted 2 -- that will net her over $30 million. Our prediction: a couple more movies, and a lot more nannies are in store for our favorite actress. Last year's leader, Nicole Kidman, has fallen off the list this year, which may be she's planning to play a man (who eventually becomes a woman) in her upcoming movie The Danish Girl -- male stars still earn more than their female counterpart, with Will Smith, Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp all making upwards of $30 million per flick.

  • An Evil Hollywood Plot?

Sarah Palin With all the talk of movie deals and TV show gigs, it seems Hollywood is determined to make Sarah Palin a star. But why? Does Tinseltown have a motive that reaches beyond profits and into the realm of evil, government-interferring plot? We offer a theory for Palin's star-studded attention -- and draft an alternative plan of attack -- in Election 2012: Palin v. Jolie.

  • Angelina Jolie: No Clear Exit Plan for Movie Career

Angelina JolieLike the recently retired Joaquin Phoenix, Angelina Jolie wants to pull out of Hollywood too, but thankfully she refuses to set any definitive timeline for completely exiting that troubled locale. "I don't plan to keep acting very long, I'm ready to do a few things now and fade away and get ready to be a grandma one day," Jolie told the BBC yesterday. We're not quite sure we follow the logic -- she can still find some time to act occasionally now when she's a mom, but will find it harder to free up her schedule when she's a grandma? Don't grannies get to hire nannies too?

  • What Does It Take To Be Influential in Hollywood?

Forbes, which we like to think of as the Seventeen of financial magazines because of its incessant list-making, has another list: Hollywood's Influential Actors. To determine the top 10, Forbes relied on data gathered by E-Poll Market Research, a Los Angeles company that gathers information on 4500 celebrities. Apparently, 40% of those polled believe Denzel Julie RobertsWashington is "influential," and that's good enough for the top of the list. The others, in declining order of influence, include Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, Robert De Niro, Harrison Ford, James Earl Jones, and "Julie" Roberts. Which just goes to show you, Hollywood stars don't have nearly as much influence as they're typically given credit for -- Roberts hasn't even been able to influence the creators of this list to get her first name right.

Meanwhile, where are the outspoken Hollywood stars who genuinely make an effort to influence people -- Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Leo DeCaprio, Kelsey Grammer, Arnold Schwarzenegger? The best way to be influential in Hollywood, it seems, is to make mainstream movies that do well at the box office for a couple decades or so, project a vague sense of progressive gravitas at award shows without being overtly political, don't be a woman, and most especially of all, don't be a comedian!

  • Brangelina, Six Nannies, and a Whole Lot of Volkswagens

Mr. and Mrs. SmithWhat does it take keep the ever-growing Pitt-Jolie clan fully operational? According to MSNBC, six nannies, a dinner table for 16, and "more than 20 Volkswagens." Math is not our strong suit, but even if that's one Beetle for Brad, one for Angelina, one each for their six children, one each for their six nannies, that still leaves at least six VWs unaccounted for. Or has Angelina actually mastered the art of being in more than four places at once? Judging by the way she seems to simultaneously pop up at awards banquets, sub-Saharan relief efforts, and Capitol Hill fact-finding sessions, we've long had our suspicions.

  • Fireproof Burning Up the Box Office

FireproofFireproof, an independently produced movie starring Kirk "Growing Pains" Cameron as a firefighter whose marriage is about to go up in flames, has now raked in over $13 million at the box office. Typically, a $13 million gross doesn't get your average Hollywood producer burning with envy. But when it only costs $500,000 to produce, well, yes it does! How has Fireproof achieved its success? In part, by keeping production costs down by using a cast and crew made up mainly of church volunteers. (Cameron worked for free too.) Fireproof has also benefited from churches offering free childcare to parents who'd like to see the film.

While we can totally envision a few Hollywood bigshots trying to co-opt the all-volunteer-crew technique, we're not so sure how many would be willing to offer complimentary babysitting services to potential customers. With the exception, of course, of Angelina Jolie, who may even go the Fireproof gang one better and offer to adopt your child if you go see her latest effort, the upcoming Changeling.

  • Sequels Galore for Wanted
If you wished for more Wanted right after seeing it, like many probably did, you’ll end up getting exactly what you wanted. After the huge box-office success it turned out to be, the next two installments of the story are already in the works. Cinema Blend is reporting that Wanted will be made into a trilogy and that James McAvoy and Terence Stamp are both in on the projects. McAvoy’s character will likely end up fighting more corrupt fraternity weavers all over the world and Angelina Jolie may possibly be back for a second go, we'll have to wait and see how they'll work that out. Either way there is a lot more blood soaked, high-octane action on the horizon for fans of Wanted
