  • Rainn Wilson Fights Crime in Super

When a genre is hot at the box office, there's bound to be a few spoof movies released in the hopes of cashing in on the trend. So it's no surprise that yet another comedic poke at superheroes is on its way to the big screen. Variety reported last night that Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, and Liv Tyler will team up for Super, a comedy about an average guy (Wilson) with no powers who dons a superhero costume after his wife (Tyler) falls under the spell of a drug dealer.

Shortly following the announcement, the writer and director of Super, James Gunn, updated his personal website to reflect the news.

I have never loved a screenplay more than Super and have been working on it for years. Rainn and I have been working together on the project for a few months now — Rainn will be playing the lead role of Frank D'Arbo who dresses up as a superhero called the Crimson Bolt; he's got no superpowers other than a pipe wrench.

This is not a wacky, over-the-top comedy. Super is a dark, comedic, gritty, very unusual, and grounded film and I think Ted is just the guy to help us get it done right. Being that this is a low-budget, independent movie that takes a lot of risks, Rainn, Ted, and I didn't really expect to get big names for the other cast members — so you can imagine how shocked we were to get our first choices for the two female leads — Ellen Page and Liv Tyler! They're both amazing actresses and awesome people and I can't wait to work with them!! Liv will be playing Sarah, Frank's wife, who leaves him for a drug dealer, and Ellen will play the role of Libby, a young sociopath who dons a costume and forces herself into Frank's life as his "kid sidekick."

Gunn went on to say that Super will be "The Passion for rebels, oddballs, fanboys, and freaks everywhere." Production is expected to begin in December.

  • Lock Your Doors, The Strangers 2 is Coming

    Comic-Con 2009: San Diego

The StrangersThe Strangers, a surprise indie horror hit about a couple (Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman) terrorized in a remote house by masked, well, strangers, is getting a sequel.

Strangers writer/director Bryan Bertino will write the script, with French newcomer Laurent Briet helming the movie. The story of the sequel is being kept secret, but one can only guess that masks, strangers, and terror will be involved. A cast has not yet been named, though shooting begins this fall.

  • The Strangers Review
Up for a little unholy fun after the family-friendly Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Spacemen?

We first got a look at The Strangers way back in July of 2007 at Comic-Con and it kind of took us by surprise. We see an awful lot of horror movies here at ReelzChannel.com and very few are anything more than generic copycats of the latest horror trend. But The Strangers looked like it might have some potential to deliver legitimate, old-time scares instead of the torture porn bloodlust that has gotten so popular recently.

After endless delays, The Strangers finally hits screens today. So does it live up to the ultra-creepy trailer that first got fans pumped? Thomas Leupp has the full Strangers review to help you make your weekend viewing decision.

  • Catch a glimpse of The Strangers

You can make it Liv!!!Home-invasion horror flicks seem to be all the rage these days, with recent movies like Vacancy1408 and the upcoming Funny Games all earning their scares by tapping into that seemingly universal fear of being trapped in a house and terrorized by psychotic strangers.

The latest offering, appropriately enough, is Bryan Bertino's long-delayed The Strangers, starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a young couple who fall prey to three unkown assailants while staying at a vacation home. After lingering in limbo for far too long, the flick finally got a release date: May 30th, 2008.

The teaser trailer for The Strangers debuted today online. Check it out over at Yahoo! Movies.

  • Live Updates from Marvel Studios Presentation

Still here in Hall H where I'm being held captive on this sunny Saturday and eagerly awaiting the Marvel Studios presentation.

We already saw footage from Iron Man at the Paramount Panel Thursday. In cast you didn't hear, it's some pretty incredible stuff. Word is there will be more coming at this presentation.

We'll also be hearing about the Incredible Hulk, which began filming two weeks ago in Toronto.

A nice selection from the cast and crew is here as well including director Louis Letterrier, producer Avi Arad and castmembers Edward Norton and Liv Tyler.

The first piece of news is that this will be the first in a series of Hulk films.

Norton mentions that he was one of the writers of the script, which is news to me and seems to come as a surprise to most everyone else in the room.

They show a very brief still of concept art which looks pretty cool. Everyone goes crazy.

Now it's time for Iron Man...

Cast and crew comes out including John Favreau in the Iron Man T-shirt we were given Thursday.

Favreau introduces Terrence Howard, who he says can't wait to play War Machine if the series continues. Now Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwenyth Paltrow come out.

They show the footage again and everyone goes crazy.

"I'm sorry, could there have been a little more of me in that," says Downey, Jr.

"What you saw there was all practical photography," says Favreau.

Stan Lee has just been brought out, with Favreau confirming that Lee will have his usual cameo in the movie.

"I took Stan to lunch at the grill in Beverly Hills," says Downey, Jr. "Now he can get a table there any time he wants... Basically I just followed what he said about why Iron Man came into being."

Lee talks about the lunch they had and the great booth they were given.

"They were just happy I wasn't in the bathroom the whole time," says Downey, Jr. to big laughs.

Question of the possibility of an Avengers movie one day?

They say that is definitely the plan, which is met with big applause.
