  • Summit and Rachelle Lefevre Go Head-to-Head in the Press

A day after the news broke that Rachelle Lefevre was being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Lefevre has come forward and offered some explanation to her shocking exit from Hollywood's hottest franchise.

Rachelle LefevreThe flame-haired actress said she was "stunned" at Summit's decision to recast the role of vampire Victoria, and that she was "fully committed" to The Twilight Saga. It turns out all the drama is about a movie Lefevre signed on to shoot in August. From her official statement, she said:

My commitment to Barney's Version is only ten days. Summit picked up my option for Eclipse. Although the production schedule for Eclipse is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me.

Given the length of filming for Eclipse, never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10 day overlap. I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part.

I am greatly saddened that I will not get to complete my portrayal of Victoria for the Twilight audience. This is a story, a theatrical journey and a character that I truly love and about which I am very passionate. I will be forever grateful to the fan support and loyalty I've received since being cast for this role, and I am hurt deeply by Summit's surprising decision to move on without me. I wish the cast and crew of Eclipse only the very best.

EclipseSummit has released a statement of its own, citing scheduling conflicts and withheld information as the main reasons for getting rid of Lefevre.

Furthermore Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE's principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.

Contrary to Ms. Lefevre's statement, it is simply untrue that the Studio dismissed her over a ten day overlap. It is not about a ten day overlap, but instead about the fact that THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE is an ensemble production that has to accommodate the schedules of numerous actors while respecting the established creative vision of the filmmaker and most importantly the story.

The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre's commitment to the other project — which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment — makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE.

Oh dear. We prefer our vampire fights in books and on the big screen. No comment (yet) on director David Slade's Twitter page.

  • Fan Reaction to Replacement of Rachelle Lefevre in Eclipse

Bella and EdwardNews that Bryce Dallas Howard is replacing Rachelle Lefevre in Eclipse has set off a firestorm of reaction — and speculation — among Twilight Saga fans.

The responses range from disapointment and anger to some funny jabs and wild conspiracy theories. Here are our favorite reactions to date.

just look at her face??? is it sparkling??
*rings David Slade and threatens him with a water bomb if Eclipse is anything but magnificent*
The TRUTH of the matter is that Rachelle was having TOO many relations with Pattinson... KStew [got] jealous, had her kicked off the shoot, and had Herbert Hoover reincarnate and delevop a cover story with Rachelle working with DeNiro... There are also rumors that she impregnated Taylor.
Ron Howard for Breaking Dawn.... anyone?
    Finally, improvements!!! :D Redhead = Reooooowr! :)

And here are two (serious) reactions that ... well, defy categorization.

Is Victoria even in Eclipse ?
What! Hopefully she's back for Breaking Dawn!

  • Bryce Dallas Howard Replaces Rachelle Lefevre in Eclipse

Bryce Dallas HowardRachelle Lefevre has had to leave her Twilight Saga role as bad-ass vampire Victoria, citing "scheduling conflicts" as the reason behind her departure. Bryce Dallas Howard (Terminator: Salvation, The Village), Ron Howard's daughter, is set to take over the part for third franchise movie Eclipse. Summit's president of worldwide production and acquisitions Eric Feig has this to say about the casting change:

We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise. Rachelle brought "Victoria" to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.

This will be a blow for those Twilighters who like Lefevre, movie continuity, and Victoria as she is. Surely Lefevre could have switched her schedule to fit with Summit's, if she'd really wanted to. We doubt she's going to get a better offer than The Twilight Saga, so why jump ship now?

  • The Cullens at Bat: Vampire Baseball This Weekend with The Twight Saga: New Moon Cast

Vampire Baseball on the 4th of JulyTurns out Carlise Cullen isn't the only vampire with a compassionate streak. This 4th of July, in a benefit for the Make-A-Wish foundation of Oregon, some of the Twilight and New Moon cast members are taking part in a day of Vampire Baseball.

The Portland event starts with a fans game in the morning. Some of the winners from that game will then face off with cast in the afternoon, playing a game in front of stands filled with Twilighters. A percentage of ticket sales from the event benefit the charity that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

If you can't make it to the event — scheduled to have Rachelle Lefevre, Peter Facinelli, Edi Gathegi, Michael Welch, Solomon Trimble, Christian Serratos, Ayanna Berkshire, Catherine Grimme, Alex Meraz, and Kiowa Gordon at bat — don't worry. We're going to be there to report on it and will have footage to share in coming weeks.

And yes, you read that right. Even the evil Victoria is choosing to spend her holiday helping kids.

  • New Moon Filming Update

Lainey Gossip has posted a round-up of the week's New Moon filming, including some candid photos of flame-haired Victoria, actress Rachelle Lefevre.

The most interesting news is that several proposal scenes will be filmed, rather than just one. We don't know whether this is to keep the final scene a secret from fans, but if it is, it might be the best idea director Chris Weitz has ever had. "A tense discussion" between main players Bella, Jacob, and Edward was also filmed, as well as evening shoots at the new Cullen house.

Expect a lot more to follow over the next few weeks, as Twilight only took mere months to film. We're still wondering how the werewolf transformation scenes will look -- cheesy American Werewolf, or slightly more realistic Underworld: Evolution?

  • More New Moon Vampire Action for Lefevre

Rachelle LefevreRachelle Lefevre, who plays evil flame-haired vampire Victoria in The Twilight Saga, recently spoke to ShockTillYouDrop about all things New Moon.

Of her character's somewhat small role in the original novel, she said, "Victoria spends all of New Moon trying to get to Bella. As a result, she fights werewolves and has encounters. They've basically tried to show more for the film. We want to keep the love triangle going, but we've kept more of the dark action, vampire-y stuff to keep those fans happy."

This sounds similar to the extra ballet studio footage we got to see in Twilight, which, due to it being from Bella's POV, was limited in the book. It worked well in that instance, but is more Victoria action what New Moon needs? It'll most probably keep the reluctant male viewers happy, while they silently curse their girlfriends for dragging them to the theater yet again.

  • Cast Greetings from the New Moon Set

To promote their Twilight DVD release parties happening all over the US tonight, Borders have a new video from the set of New Moon that was filmed during a movie photoshoot. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, and Rachelle Lefevre all appear and take turns thanking the "best fans in the world."

Lefevre and Greene are both wearing some pretty cool vampire contacts, while Pattinson's hair looks like it needs to grow a few inches to match Edward's trademark long locks that we first saw in Twilight. In order to stick to Stephenie Meyer's no-change-to-physical-appearance vampire mythology, perhaps it's time for some hair extentions to make an appearance.

  • New Moon Shooting Starts

Rumor has it that New Moon has officially begun shooting in Tofino, British Columbia, around the South Beach area. Taylor Lautner (Jacob), Kristen Stewart (Bella), and Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) were spotted yesterday, and we can only assume that filming has started with the infamous Bella cliff-diving in La Push scene.

Taylor Lautner certainly looks more like his character this time around, which is good news for Team Jacob supporters. Now, if the production team could just locate a better wig for him, we'd all be happy.

  • Exclusive Twilight and New Moon News from Naibe

    Naibe Reynoso

Naibe Reynoso is a correspondent for ReelzChannel TV's Movie News, and occasionally shares stories from the field.

Fans of director Catherine Hardwicke were happy to know she is releasing a book, Twilight: Director's Notebook: The Story of How We Made the Movie Based on the Novel by Stephenie Meyer. It will be released on March 17 and I have learned that Hardwicke and a surprise Twilight cast member will be appearing at a secret Los Angeles location. Hardwicke will have an opportunity to talk with fans about her Twilight experience. But don't expect her to slam the franchise; the book is published by Little, Brown and Company, the same publisher as the entire Twilight Saga. They've released a new exclusive early image from the book that shows the crucial items director Catherine Hardwicke kept with her at all times during shooting (such a toothbrush!).

So now that most of the New Moon cast has been confirmed, most recently Dakota Fanning in the role of Jane, and with prepping nearly complete, the fast track to filming has begun. In a recent interview, Rachelle Lefevre (who plays the sultry and vengeful vampire Victoria) told me that her buddy Taylor Lautner has definitely pumped up for the role of Jacob. "He's been eating a lot of protein to build his muscles, and it's worked!" she said. Rumors had whirled a few months ago that his role was at risk, and that actor Michael Copon would take his place. While it wasn't meant to be, don't feel bad for Copon. His IMDB page lists 7 movies that will be released in 2009/2010, including Night of the Demons about a group of kids who go to a Halloween party, only to have to face down a group of demons! It's no New Moon, but in this economy, at least he's got work!

  • New Moon Cast Gearing Up for a Tight Shooting Schedule

New MoonWith shooting scheduled to begin in Vancouver in mid-March, and a release date in November, you'd think that everyone on the cast of New Moon would have gotten a peek at the script. Soon, but not yet.

In a series of video interviews with Collider, Edi Gathegi, Rachelle Lefevre, Ashley Greene, and Kellan Lutz talk about getting ready for the Twilight sequel, what scenes they are most looking forward to filming, and how they are dealing with what looks to be a pretty tight shooting schedule. Despite the looming deadlines, they seem more enthusiastic than anxious about the challenge.

Gathegi, who will return as the vampire Laurent, admits he hasn't seen the script yet and adds: "We haven't even begun filming yet and we'll be in theaters on November 20th watching the movie. That's wild!"

There are signs that production is starting to get going though. Movieset is calling attention to this somewhat cryptic early February casting call that, while not mentioning New Moon by name, sure does look like it must be for the Twilight sequel: "Looking for First Nations/aboriginal actors and actresses between the ages of 15 and 25" for a speaking part in a major motion picture that begins filming in Vancouver in March.... Hmm.

  • Rachelle Lefevre Aims to Add Depth to Her Vampire Role

Rachelle LefevreOne character sure to be more prominent in the Twilight sequel New Moon, is Victoria, the evil vamptress whose menace overshadows final scenes of Twilight. Offering a taste of what's to come, Rachelle Lefevre, who played Victoria in Twilight, talks to Variety about motivations that go beyond simple vengeance and were only hinted at in Twilight:

I see Victoria as someone who believes that vampires occupy a rightful place at the top of the food chain and she is very much obsessed by this power. For her, the fact that a vampire should be killed to protect a mere mortal goes against the natural order of things and so by killing Bella (and the Cullens who protected her) she is restoring order and balance to her world.

The second and third movies, she hopes, will give her the opportunity to explore this in more depth.
