• Hollywood Tees Off

  Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els and the rest of golf's greatest are gathered at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia this week to compete for the coveted Green Jacket at The Masters. • Writing team assembled for Transformers 2; Bay back on board

  Dreamworks/Paramount is hard at work getting the Transformers sequel up and running, with star Shia LaBeouf, director Michael Bay and exec producer Steven Spielberg already lined up for Transformers 2, and a writing team composed of Ehren Kruger, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci currently in negotiations to pen the script, says the The Hollywood Reporter.

  Most notable is the return of Bay, who had previously indicated that he might pass on the sequel. Fans can now rest assured that Transformers 2 will contain the proper amount of a**-kicking explosions, sweaty hot chicks and inane comic relief sequences.

• Casting newz: Walken, Hurt, Defiance, and Eagle Eye

  Variety is reporting several casting deals today.

  Christopher Walken and Alessandro Nivola (Junebug, Face/Off) will be teaming up in Five Dollars a Day, a road movie in which Walken plays a conman and Nivola the son who's been jailed for his crimes. Nigel Cole (Calendar Girls, A Lot Like Love) will direct...

  ...Liev Schreiber (The Painted Veil, Kate & Leopold) and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, King Kong) will be joining Daniel Craig in Defiance, the Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond) written and directed drama about Polish brothers who join the Russian resistance during the Holocaust...

  ...Director D.J. Caruso will be re-teaming with Shia LaBeouf after their blockbuster turn in Disturbia for another thriller, Eagle Eye. Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible III, North Country) has just been cast opposite Shia as a single mother who must infiltrate a cell plotting a political assassination after they are wrongly accused of being terrorists. MTV.com recently reported that Rosario Dawson has also signed onto the movie...

  ...MTV is also reporting that William Hurt has a juicy role coming up in a new Julie Delpy drama/romance. The Countess, which Delpy wrote and will star in and direct, is about Elizabeth Bathory, a Hungarian countess who lived during the 16th century and also happened to be a serial killer. Radha Mitchell (Melinda and Melinda, Finding Neverland) and Vincent Gallo (The Brown Bunny, Buffalo 66) are also confirmed.

• Transformers taking over the world?

  Fire broke out at the giant Transformers tower at Sunset + Vine in Hollywood last night. Angelinos everywhere climbed to the tops of their buildings and went outside for a closer look, as smoke and flames poured from the top of the building.

  Curiously, though, no reports of this have reached the local news.

  Could this be the first attempt of Megatron and his band of Decepticons to establish their evil empire? Perhaps Soundwave is controlling the media. Whatever it is, stay tuned. And keep your eyes peeled.

• Connery to Indy: You're no son of mine.

  It's official: Sean Connery has decided not to reprise his role as Indiana Jones's father in the fourth installment of the franchise. Instead, the part will be taken over by John Hurt (V for Vendetta, Contact).

  Harrison Ford, Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett and Ray Winstone will round out the cast.

  Connery, who had been in negotiations for the part, ultimately succumbed to the pleasures of staying in retirement, says Variety.

  We've heard that days of mah-jong lessons and nights of Wheel of Fortune reruns can do that to a person.
