  • Rob Zombie Pushed Connie Britton to Play Elm Street Mom

Connie BrittonConnie Britton is not known for horror movies. In fact, the Friday Night Lights actress told the NY Post that it took Rob Zombie and the casting of Jackie Early Haley to convince her to take a role in A Nightmare on Elm Street, the remake of Wes Craven's 1984 horror movie — a movie Britton admits she's only seen parts of.

I've known Rob Zombie for a long time and he's always been telling me, "Connie, you gotta make a horror movie!" But I was still too chicken. But when I heard Jackie Earle Haley was doing Freddy, I thought that this was the time. But in retrospect, now that I've seen a good part of the original, it made no difference because what we do in the new one is so substantially different.

Britton is playing the mother of heroine Nancy (Rooney Mara), but isn't sure that her role is as strong in the remake as it was in the original.

The truth is, I don't think the role is as well represented in the movie as it could have been. My sense is that the focus won't be on my character as much as I previously thought, but we'll see.

We have a feeling that the focus will likely be on Freddy hunting down Nancy, but that's just us.

  • Weinstein Co. Halts Halloween 3D Pre-Production

Jesse EisenbergAccording to Deadline Hollywood, The Weinstein Co. has decided to put the brakes on pre-production of Halloween 3D. The follow-up to Rob Zombie's recent Halloween II was set to rehash the original Halloween franchise conceived by John Carpenter.

Apparently, Bob Weinstein wanted to get the thing into production as quickly as possible, since new director Patrick Lussier is scheduled to work on another project starting in January. The sudden shut down probably leads many to conclude that the Weinsteins' recent financial woes may be responsible. But an unidentified source said that "Bob just felt it was rushing too fast."

We're not sure whether to believe that, since Halloween II performed so poorly at the box office, but regardless, it now appears production on a third installment won't happen until next spring, if it even happens at all.

Meanwhile, Dimension apparently has plans to re-release Zombie's Halloween II in selected theaters for midnight screenings on Halloween. Seriously? Midnight screenings should be reserved for classics and/or established cult films, not mediocre rehashes that aren't even a year old. We don't know about you, but we'd much rather see Carpenter's Halloween back on the big screen.

  • Halloween 3-D May Have a Director
    Halloween II

When the Weinstein Co. announced Halloween 3-D, they said they were negotiating with an experienced horror director, but didn't reference the director by name. According to Bloody-Disgusting, that unnamed director could likely be Steve Miner, the director of Halloween: H2O and Friday the 13th Part 2 and 3.

The Weinstein Co. promised a director for Halloween 3-D that would provide a "different take" on the series, which is not what Miner is famous for, but The Weinstein Co.'s "different take" could just mean "something other than what Rob Zombie did in Halloween II."

Until the Weinstein Co. or Dimension Films confirms the hiring, Miner is merely a rumor, but considering Miner's experience with slasher movies, including making them in 3-D, as he did with Friday the 13th Part 3, Miner certainly seems like a solid choice who could bring some stability to a growing, rebooted horror franchise.

  • Halloween 3-D to Arrive in 2010
    Halloween II

Despite Halloween II's box office returns only taking third place during its opening weekend, the Los Angeles Times reports that Halloween 3D is in development. Considering Halloween II was beaten by another horror movie, The Final Destination, which was shot in 3D, the Weinstein Co.'s decision to make a third Halloween in 3D is no surprise.

Rob Zombie, who wrote and directed both of the Halloween remakes, claims he will "never" return for a third, and Weinstein Co. co-chairman Bob Weinstein says that they're negotiating with an experienced horror director to take over Halloween 3D who will bring a "different take" to the franchise. However, if Zombie hates the unnamed director's "take," Zombie's history shows that he may return anyway.

Next Showing: Halloween 3D is scheduled to arrive in theaters summer 2010.

  • Rob Zombie's Halloween II Live Auction

Halloween IIFamily may be forever, but apparently the same can't be said for Michael Meyers' family heirlooms. More than 500 bloody props and costumes from Rob Zombie's Halloween II will be up for auction the day after the movie's premiere, August 29.

Among the "pieces of horror history" on the block are Myers' 23-inch machete; hand and feet shackles; a "dirty, bloody, six-point antler"; a series of Illinois license plates, including one from the beer truck; and more kitchy, plastic pumpkins than we care to count.

To learn more about the auction, which will be broadcast live, visit the Premiere Props site.

  • The Blob Next for Rob Zombie, Maybe Werewolf Women of the SS

Rob ZombieNow that Rob Zombie has finished Halloween II and will "never" come back for another, Variety reports he has set his sights on another remake, The Blob. Zombie will write, direct, and produce a reinvention of the 1958 classic sci-fi movie, and he already knows how he will make it different.

My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that's the first thing I want to change. That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now.

Zombie still intends for to be scary, but wants to stay away from the horror of his Halloween movies.

I'd been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space. I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to.

But wouldn't Zombie find that same freedom if he tried to make a full-length feature out of his Grindhouse trailer, Werewolf Women of the SS? Considering Robert Rodriguez is making Machete, Zombie agrees that the time is right.

I feel that the Nazi movie is back. Once the trend comes back, the Nazi trends comes back, now you pervert it like crazy and you add werewolves. So, I don't know if we'll ever see that movie, but now is the time. The time is now to strike with this.

I actually did sketch out a whole story. It's so insane, it's ridiculous. It involves time travel. I would love to make that movie. Grindhouse was made like a traditional movie, they spent a lot of money. I would like to go make Werewolf in two weeks with no money.

If Zombie makes both The Blob and Werewolf, that would indeed make him too busy for another Halloween. That is, until he sees what another director wants to do with Halloween III and he gets "protective" again.

  • Rob Zombie "Protective" of Halloween II

    Halloween 's Body

Originally, Rob Zombie was happy to sit out of the sequel to his remake of Halloween, but when directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury dropped out, and Zombie heard what other prospective directors were planning for Halloween II, he finally stepped in.

Zombie explained to MTV why he couldn't stay away from Halloween II.

I just got protective of the series, because I had spent so much time trying to revive the whole thing that it looked like they were just going to go back in and destroy it.

Zombie didn't want the new Halloween movies to end up like the original series where "every one had a different director, a different guy playing Michael Myers, a different story line" and seemed, to Zombie, to be "shooting off in all different directions." Working on Halloween II, Zombie felt more freedom, claiming the sequel had "less baggage" than the 2007 remake. The results have Zombie pleased.

Everybody liked the stuff that was different, new. There was nobody raising their hand going, "Yes, please give me more of the same old crap! I love seeing the same old crap!" Even though studios seem to think that's what everybody wants, nobody wants it.

Zombie may have felt "protective" for Halloween II, but claims he will "never" return for a third Halloween.

  • New Halloween II TV Spot Reveals a Hobo Michael Myers
    Halloween 2

When Rob Zombie decided to write and direct the sequel to his Halloween remake, he had less than a year to get it into theaters. Luckily, Zombie found the sequel was easier to work on. "The first one had a lot of ... baggage? I guess that's the word? Whereas this one had none," he told DreadCentral. "What's great about following up your own movie is now it's all new. The thought of past Halloweens hasn't even entered any of our minds."

One of the biggest changes Zombie has made was the look of killer Michael Myers, which hasn't been easy for fans of the original to appreciate:

Michael Myers is funny, because that's the character that nobody wants to see change. They always want him to be and look the same. For me one of the main things that interests me about making Halloween is making that character change. When approaching this film I was like, well, where did Michael go? Did he disappear into the shadows like a ghost and then suddenly reappear? What I thought would be cool and kind of scary would be if he were like right out there in plain sight and no one notices him anymore because he just looks like a homeless bum. When you see pictures of him it looks odd, but within the context of the film it makes perfect sense. It's interesting because that happens sometimes. I mean you see these homeless people, and you're like — who are they? They could be f**kin' serial killers for all you know. Maniacs. But you don't pay any attention to them. Michael is just living on the fringe of society.

Zombie has already stated that he will not do a third Halloween and the latest TV spot claims that Halloween II completes Zombie's "terrifying vision." Still, that doesn't mean that Myers won't be back:

[Halloween II] is a much darker, dirtier, nastier, and more psychotic world. After this there's nothing more we can do. That doesn't mean that there won't be more, there just won't be more involving me.

See the new, homeless look of Michael Myers in the trailer below:

  • No Halloween 3 For Rob Zombie
    Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie dropped by MTV and was asked whether he would like to make another Halloween. Zombie kept his answer brief:

No. I could not see that in any shape, way or form. Never. If I told you [why], you wouldn't believe me.

Zombie did confirm an appearance by "Weird" Al Yankovic in the movie, though in what capacity Zombie would not say. "'Weird' Al was awesome," said Zombie. "I would get 'Weird" Al back before I would do Halloween 3."

  • New H2 or Halloween II TV Spots

Two of the TV spots for H2, Rob Zombie's sequel to his remake of Halloween, reveal a new look Zombie has given to the famously masked Michael Myers: his own face. Watch them below:

Details begin to change in the longer, sixty-second TV spot, such as the title becoming Halloween II instead of H2. The spot also claims that the "the secret behind the madness" of Myers "will finally be revealed," even after Zombie's Halloween spent a good hour showing Myers' upbringing and evolution into a psychotic killer. H2, or Halloween II or whatever it ends up being called, shows that the real cause for Michael's descent into madness is a Mommy complex:

  • Bob Weinstein's Duplex for Sale: More Weinstein Company Financial Woes?

Over the past month, several sources -- including The New York Times -- have reported that the financial situation of The Weinstein Company, headed by Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein, is in less-than-ideal shape.

Earlier today, Gawker reported on another possible sign of desperation from the Weinsteins: Bob Weinstein is apparently trying to sell his Central Park West duplex for $34 million.

Gawker also chronicled the events over the past year that indicate dire financial straits for the Weinsteins: The company laid off 11 percent of its staff, lost the rights to Sin City 2, possibly due to lack of capital, and may not even be able to afford the distribution and promotion costs for Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.

The company will likely put its hopes behind three movies this summer and fall, and it needs a hit soon to ease its troubles. Those three movies are Basterds, Rob Zombie's H2, and Rob Marshall's Nine.

  • New H2: Halloween 2 Trailer Released

H2In his first remake of the Halloween series, writer/director Rob Zombie was bold enough to show that a child placed in a violent and depraved family environment could become a silent and psychotic killer. Who knew there was a correlation? In his second outing in the rebooted horror series, Zombie has said he wants to show that losing your friends and family to a silent and psychotic killer can turn the survivor into a "totally damaged" person. Now that's saying something!

In the trailer for H2, however, Zombie seems to be saying that once a silent and psychotic killer murders his own mother, she'll keep showing up in a pretty white dress. The fact that there's a trailer at all is rather amazing, considering shooting began in March. Check it out below:

  • Another Heavy Metal in the Works
    Heavy Metal

The animated anthology continues! This time directors David Fincher, Gore Verbinski, and Zack Snyder will contribute to the movie. Snyder told MTV the movie was "coasting" and has his story picked out, though he wouldn't elaborate on what it will be:

[Fincher, Verbinski and I] talked about certain segments, it’s nothing that you would know from the magazine. It's a special little one-off thing but it's pretty cool, that's all I can really say about it.

Halloween: H2 director Rob Zombie has also been approached to direct a segment that "could fuse his story with his music."

  • H2 Gets a Release Date

Rob ZombieNow Rob Zombie has even less time to put together the sequel to his Halloween. Initially, H2 was set for release sometime in October, but Dimension Films has decided to release H2 on August 28 instead, the same weekend that Zombie's Tyrannosaurus Rex was supposed to open, but has now been put on hold so Zombie can work on H2. None of this seems to bother Zombie, who unveiled the new Michael Myers mask and wrote in his blog: "[Myers] is bigger, meaner and more psycho than Dr. Loomis ever thought possible."

Shooting for H2 begins in March.

  • Rob Zombie Confirmed to Direct Halloween 2

A week ago, word was that Rob Zombie might direct a follow-up to his Halloween remake, but Zombie had not confirmed the report. Consider it confirmed. Zombie was previously uninterested in directing the sequel, but told told Variety: "I was so burned out. (But) I took a long break, made a record and I got excited again."

Zombie claims that Halloween 2 will not follow the original sequel but will go in a whole new direction, one that sources told ShockTillYouDrop is a "totally unique approach" to a sequel.

Halloween 2 will open sometime in October, 2009. "Now, we'll be hauling ass," said Zombie, "and that's the problem making a movie called 'Halloween': If you come out Nov. 1 or after, nobody cares. If it was called anything else, I'd be fine."

  • Gary Ross Confirms Creature from the Black Lagoon Remake

The CReature from the Black LagoonReelzChannel spoke to Gary Ross (Big, Seabiscuit) today about his plans to remake Creature From the Black Lagoon. Ross is currently doing press for his upcoming animated adaptation of the children's classic The Tale of Despereaux.

As some may already know, Ross is the son of iconic B-movie writer Arthur A. Ross, who penned the original Creature film as well as the sequel The Creature Walks Among Us. The elder Ross recently passed away, and his son hopes to pay homage to his father by writing and producing the remake.

"It’s going great," Ross said with a big smile. "We’re actually moving forward. My dad wrote the original, so it’s not a reference to what the original is. We take it sort of seriously. We found some scientific underpinnings for it, which my dad actually developed in the original. He actually based it on a lungfish that was found around that time.”

Ross says the decision of whether the Creature would be computer generated or a guy in a suit like the original has not yet been made. "A lot of the decisions as far as CG versus practical will obviously be made by the director down the line.”

Although Ross admits to being excited about the project, he was careful to mention that it is not yet greenlit "We hope to be making it sometime next year, so I don’t want to send the wrong impression," said Ross.

Rob Zombie (The Devil's Rejects, Halloween) has already expressed interest in the project, but Ross would neither confirm nor deny the rumor: “I can’t actually talk about it, but we are talking to some directors,” Ross told ReelzChannel.

“I think we’re going to treat it with a certain amount of dignity," added Ross. "It's not campy [or] retro. It’s set present day. It should be a really interesting journey into the jungle, both for the characters and for the audience."

  • Rob Zombie to Direct Halloween Sequel?

Rob ZombieRight when Rob Zombie was trying to get out, they pull him back in. Possibly.

Last September, Zombie told Entertainment Weekly that he was not going to be involved with any Halloween sequels. Instead, Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury were supposed to direct the sequel, but, like the Hellraiser remake the French duo dropped out of, they dropped out of Halloween in November as well, opening the director's chair for anyone who wanted it.

Now, according to ShockTilYouDrop, it appears as though Zombie will return to direct Tyler Mane as Michael Myers in the sequel. The move would end a director search and put the film back on track to start shooting in March. Zombie was working on his Tyrannosaurus Rex movie, which would be made after the Halloween sequel, though Zombie has yet to confirm or deny the rumor.

A bigger question is, should they make a sequel at all? Tell us what you think!
