• Doug Jones Unsure of the Future of the Silver Surfer Movie

  You may not recognize actor Doug Jones' name or even his face, but you've most likely seen his work as the "fish man" Abe Sapien in Hellboy or as the far-out surfer from beyond the stars in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

  Jones, who trained as a mime and a contortionist, got his start doing commercials, including the famous "Mac Tonight" McDonald's ads that ran from 1987 to 1991, and is now the go-to guy for any "bendy" characters. Jones portrayed the creepy Faun in Pan's Labyrinth, will appear as the Ice Cream Man in the upcoming Legion, and is rumored to have a role in The Hobbit.

  But, what about the Silver Surfer movie that was supposed to spin off of the Fantastic Four? The latest news has Michael Green, co-executive producer of Heroes and the co-writer of Green Lantern working on a script aimed to reboot the franchise. In an interview with It's Just Movies, Jones said:

  There are still a couple of years left on their option for two more pictures with me, as a three-picture deal is quite standard when starting a franchise-potential character. But with all the "re-boot" talk of the Fantastic Four, I have no idea where that leaves the Silver Surfer-end of things. I would love to re-visit this character. I do love Norrin Radd.

• New Hellboy comic to debut at WonderCon

  As if you fanboys needed another reason to attend this weekend's WonderCon in San Francisco, Universal announced today that they'll be handing out free copies of Hellboy: The Golden Army, a new comic written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola from a story by director Guillermo del Toro. A prequel of sorts to the highly anticipated Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the 16-page comic explains the rise of the Golden Army, the coalition of bad guys bent on bringing down Hellboy and the rest of the BRPD.

  Three different versions of the comic, each with its own collectible cover, will be handed out at various fanboy events leading up to Hellboy II's July 11th release. The S.F. WonderCon version will feature Liz (pictured above -- click on it for the full-sized version as well as images of Abe and Hellboy).   Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the long-awaited follow-up to Guillermo del Toro's sleeper hit of 2004, has finally wrapped production in Budapest with a release date set for July 11, 2008. That's quite a long ways away for those of us eager to see Ron Perlman and Doug Jones reprise their signature roles. Thankfully, the folks at Universal have set up a pretty detailed Hellboy II site, featuring some cool concept art, to help tide us over until the big day arrives.
