  • The Crazies Trailer and Poster Go Zombie ... Crazy

the craziesThis is a busy year for George Romero. Only two years removed from his last zombie epic, Diary of the Dead, Romero has been making the rounds at film festivals with his latest zombie flick, Survival of the Dead. However, there's another Romero movie out there as well, a remake of Romero's 1973 movie The Crazies, though Romero is only serving as Executive Producer. Breck Eisner (Sahara) is directing this Crazies from a script by Ray Wright (Pulse) and, no stranger to remakes, Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

While the remake is similar in plot to the original — townspeople slowly go insane after a contaminant is released in the city's water supply — both the new poster and the trailer of the remake look ironically more in keeping with the zombie genre than the Romero original, which focused more on the military's inability to control the situation than infected people chasing the non-infected.

The Crazies has a solid cast of horror actors with Timothy Olyphant (Scream 2), Radha Mitchell (Surrogates), Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th), and Justin Welborn (The Final Destination), and unlike Survival of the Dead, which is still currently seeking domestic distribution, The Crazies already has a release date in 2010's horror season. You know, February, the month where studios decide to release all their genre pictures to counteract the Oscar hangover.

    Enjoy the trailer below:

  • Fox May Be Revisiting Hitman

HitmanThough it came and went without making many waves, Hitman, the 2007 adaptation of the popular video game series, may be coming back for another round of box-office mayhem. The original movie, directed by Xavier Gens from a script by Skip Woods, earned $100 million on a $30-million budget, which may be the impetus for revisiting the property.

According to a recent article in Variety, Twentieth Century Fox has hired screenwriter Kyle Ward to pen a new script, using story elements from the upcoming Hitman 5 game from Eidos, due out in 2010.

There's no word on whether actor Timothy Olyphant would be willing to reprise his role as Agent 47, the world's greatest assassin, in a Hitman sequel.

  • Hitman downgraded to soft PG-13?

That's what Twitchfilm.net reported earlier this week relating to widespread net rumors that director Xavier Gens had been stripped of control on the video game adaptation. Reportedly, Fox brought in Nicolas De Toth to tone down the film, possibly even from hard "R" to "PG-13" territory. De Toth previously edited the bloodless version of Live Free or Die Hard.

In an official statement of reponse from Fox, the studio claims De Toth has been brought in as a consultant rather than as an editor and that the film will go out with an "R"-rating and Gens is still involved. We'll see. De Toth's involvement certainly seems contradictory to Fox's claim.

We'll bring you more on Hitman as we hear it.
