  • Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool

Ryan ReynoldsWith a Deadpool spin-off confirmed, the question remains: what is the movie going to be about? Ryan Reynolds told IGN that he hopes the movie will stick as closely to the comic book as possible:

It's tough because when you have a character like Deadpool, to the greatest extent of your power, you want to bring as much authenticity to that character as possible. And by "authenticity," I don't mean that you'd want to make him somebody that you'd have a Starbucks coffee with, I mean that you want to make him as close to the comics as possible. But I'm really happy that the studio is as obsessed with making it as close to the comic book source material as possible. And that's all I really needed to hear.

As for whether Deadpool will have much to do with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds said:

Without saying too much, I can't imagine that there's gonna be any tie-in to the Wolverine movie at all. There's that little teaser at the end, but for the most part, I can't imagine that they'd tie it in with the film too closely.

Deadpool will no doubt pull in other characters from the Marvel Universe, and one character Reynolds is really hoping to include is Deadpool's partner Cable. Reynolds told MTV:

That is all being discussed. I'm hoping Cable will be in it. Look, I've made no secret that I love that character. I also love some of the more preliminary characters at the beginning of the series. I like Ajax -- that's an easier character to put in. And Black Tom. I think there's a lot of different villains [we're considering]; you could do a whole bunch of villains, or you could just have Deadpool going up against one guy. We'll see.

Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefield suggested his own story for the movie, which seems to be close to what Reynolds is looking for:

We'll have an adventure with him in the present tense, dressed in his costume, probably breaking the fourth wall, with some kick-ass action. A past love story, a past spy story, his own story of vengeance -- when he said [in Wolverine] that "I brought swords to my girlfriend's wedding," there's something there.

This past love Liefield suggests could be either the Irish mutant Siryn, niece of the villainous Black Tom, or the assassin Typhoid Mary, both of whom were romantically involved with Deadpool in the comics. We've got a strong feeling it will be the later, though, since Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff was recently seen researching the role of Typhoid Mary for an unspecified "Marvel movie."

  • Battlestar Babe Katee Sackhoff Researching Role for Marvel Movie

Katee SackhoffThe Battlestar Galactica actress was spotted at an LA comic book store buying everything she could get her hands on featuring Daredevil villain Typhoid Mary. When asked why, she responded it was, "in hopes to get a part for a Marvel movie."

Is this just wishful thinking, or does Katte Sackhoff know something we don't? We're going to be optimistic and lean towards the latter.

She's a mutant with multiple personalities, who develops various powers depending on which personality inhabits her at the time. There have been rumors floating around for some time of a reboot/sequel to 2003's Mark Stephen Johnson movie, which starred Ben Affleck.

Another possibility is that Sackhoff's research is for the recently confirmed continuation of the X-franchise -- Ryan Reynolds' coming Deadpool movie. In fact, with Typhoid Mary's mutant connection, she could be a candidate for any future X-movie from Fox. Let the speculation begin!
