  • Three Additions to Cast of Pixar's John Carter of Mars

John Carter of MarsThe Hollywood Reporter writes that three more actors will star in Pixar's first live-action movie, John Carter of Mars. Thomas Haden Church, James Purefoy, and Mark Strong have joined a cast that already includes Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Taylor Kitsch, and Lynn Collins.

The story involves John Carter (Kitsch), a Civil War veteran who is transported to Mars. But this isn't the barren red planet we know; this Mars is a violent society involving "12-foot-tall green barbarians," according to IMDb.

Church will portray a warrior with a desire for power, Purefoy a captain, and Strong the ruler of a people called the Thems. Directing the movie is Andrew Stanton, who also co-wrote the script. Stanton has already helmed several Pixar features, including Wall-E, Finding Nemo, and A Bug's Life.

The movie is still in pre-production and is scheduled for a 2012 release.

  • Mark Strong Ruins the End of Sherlock Holmes

Can't anyone keep a secret anymore? Sherlock Holmes actor Mark Strong can't, that's for sure. Strong told TotalFilm the ending of the upcoming Guy Ritchie-directed movie:

There's a fantastic sequence where we duel to the death on a half-built Tower Bridge. It's a perfect way to end the movie, Robert [Downey, Jr.] and I hammering seven bells out of each other on top of this swinging bridge with Victorian London as a backdrop. It's going to be amazing.

You know what's amazing, Mark? Keeping a secret.

  • Cate Blanchett Older, Thicker, Classier Than Sienna Miller?

Cate BlanchettAt the London Film Critics' Circle Awards last week, actor Mark Strong said he thinks Cate Blanchett is set to take over the Maid Marian role in the upcoming Ridley Scott Robin Hood flick, Nottingham.

Sienna Miller was originally set to play the part, but she was reportedly booted from the film for being too young and too slim. Ouch. Strong, who will play Guy of Gisborne in the movie, says Cate "is a wonderful actress and it would make it a much classier film if she was in it." Yes, Blanchett's a wonderful actress, but what does he mean with the "much classier" bit? Classier than if Miller was in it?

The poor girl has already been deemed too young, too skinny, too well-groomed and now the guy has to imply she's not classy enough. Sure, Sienna has been involved with a married dude, but let's remember this is a film that stars Russell Crowe, who has not only been involved with married people but has also violently thrown telephones at people. Talk about not classy.
