  • Michael Sheen Channels His Inner Fluffy White Animal for Burton's Alice

Alice in WonderlandMichael Sheen is strapping on some big ears for his role as the White Rabbit in Tim Burton's gothic adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. To get it right, he's had go a bit down the rabbit hole himself, as he explained to Parade:

Everyone has an inner white fluffy animal, it's just a question of finding it before it's too late. The White Rabbit is such an iconic character that I didn't feel like I should break the mould too much, so I just sort of went with it. The story had a huge impact on me as a child and it's stayed with me ever since, so to be part of Tim Burton's version is just like a dream come true.

Given that it's Burton's vision, we shouldn't expect things to get too fluffy and cuddly, though. A number of the characters we've seen so far in the teasers don't seem like they have anything too fluffy inside. Certainly not Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter in any case.

  • Michael Sheen on Shooting New Moon

Michael SheenMichael Sheen, the actor behind New Moon's Volturi vampire Aro, recently spoke to iesb.net about his role in The Twilight Saga. When asked about shooting his scenes in Italy, he said:

I would love to share my favorite experiences about Italy. Unfortunately, I can't because I didn't shoot any of it in Italy. The problem with doing interiors is that interiors can be filmed anywhere. So, next time, I'll have it in my contract that I have to do at least one exterior, in any film I do. My favorite experience about Italy was getting a text from Chris Weitz saying, "It's lovely here, isn't it?"

On the subject of being one of the older cast members on set, he politely sang the praises of his co-stars.

I think it's a good job that I was playing a millennia-old vampire because that's exactly how it felt to be on a set with people as beautiful as Robert [Pattinson], Kristen [Stewart], and Ashley [Greene], and all that lot. I felt like the old, decrepit uncle who's just hanging around, trying to get in with the cool kids. But, that helped with the character, so it was fun.

Good answer, Mr. Sheen — there's no way you, or anyone, can compete with teen king Robert Pattinson. We're not sure exactly how long his reign will last, but we're betting he's got a few years left in him yet.

  • Michael Sheen Talks Tron: Legacy Villains and More
    Michael Sheen

Earlier this year, Michael Sheen could only hint at his casting in Tron: Legacy until Disney officially announced it. While it was believed that Sheen was playing the villain, Sheen explained to ComingSoon that he's actually playing a nightclub host in the Tron world instead:

That was amazing, because there's a lot of green screen in that. But my stuff was mainly in this amazing set that they built because I'm a nightclub host, so they built the nightclub and there were hundreds of extras and it was one of those great scenes where there's just loads going on.

So, if Sheen isn't the villain, who is? Tron: Legacy producer Sean Bailey told Cinematical that the villain is part of Tron's evolving world:

In the story, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) took what he learned from the experience in 1982 and built upon it and started to expand his research in his thinking and ideas based upon the experiences of '82. And so the system kind of evolved under his stewardship for a while, and then something happened and it started to evolve on its own. And so that is where we end up finding ourselves in Tron: Legacy.

So far, little has been seen of Tron: Legacy besides a few light cycles photos from Disney's D23 Expo and some concept footage from this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Sheen revealed that the footage was presented on purpose to convince Disney to move ahead with the movie:

[Director Joseph Kosinski] did that to get Disney to give the okay to make the film. Joe now says that he doesn't like people seeing that because it's moved on so much from that, and that looks awesome.

  • Summit Releases Official New Moon Volturi Images

Dakota Fanning as JaneToday, Summit Entertainment sent the Twilight fandom into overdrive by releasing official images of New Moon's Volturi vampires. Marcus, Caius, Aro, Jane, and Alec are now all available for your viewing pleasure and, we have to admit, they look pretty awesome.

Placed in front of an atmospheric backdrop worthy of vampires everywhere, the Volturi look nothing less than creepy. Pale and menacing is the look Summit's gone for, and it's worked much better than we thought it would. Dakota Fanning looks particularly accurate as Jane, as does Cameron Bright, who's playing her twin brother Alec.

Michael Sheen, Christopher Heyerdahl, and Jamie Campbell Bower complete the Volturi, as ancient leaders Aro, Marcus, and Caius. Bower looks especially good, with slicked back blonde hair, and a black cloak to rival Dracula's. For anyone who thought New Moon would be all bark and no bite, think again — the vampires are back in business.

  • First Look at New Moon's Volturi

Dakota Fanning as JaneThe first images of New Moon's Volturi vampire family have leaked online, originating from an anonymous, unnamed source. The images show Michael Sheen (Aro), Christopher Heyerdahl (Marcus), Jamie Campbell Bower (Caius), Dakota Fanning (Jane), and Cameron Bright (Alec) vamped and suited up, and looking every bit the part of their undead characters. Also shown is the Volturi crest, similar in style to the Cullen crest seen in Twilight.

Summit has hit the nail on the head here, with each of the Volturi members looking creepy and pale, and in no way like someone you'd want to meet in a dark, deserted place. Caius looks particularly menacing — more so than Jane, which is surprising, considering she has killer eye makeup. What do you think, Twilighters? Is this how you imagined the world's oldest Vampire clan?

  • Disney Finally Confirms Tron: Legacy Role For New Moon's Michael Sheen

Michael SheenMichael Sheen, best known to audiences for his role as David Frost in Frost/Nixon and soon to be known to Twilight fans as Aro in the upcoming The Twilight Saga: New Moon, has finally had his role in Tron Legacy confirmed. Disney made the casting official via their Twitter account by announcing: "Yes, Michael Sheen will have a role in Tron Legacy!" Wow, how official. Sheen hinted at the casting months ago by not-so-subtly using his own Twitter to say he was cast in a "mystery film" and was "very happy to see so many Tron fans" online.

It's not entirely certain what role Sheen will play, though it is believed that he'll be the villain. Considering how long it took Disney to officially announce Sheen's casting, it may be another year or so before we find out.

  • Hope Davis Talks About Portraying Hillary Clinton

Up until a few weeks ago, Julianne Moore was to star as the Hillary to Dennis Quaid's Bill in HBO Films' upcoming The Special Relationship. Moore then announced that she would withdraw from the project due to scheduling conflicts. EW now reports that HBO has signed Hope Davis (Proof, American Splendor) to take her place.

The project's focus is the relationship between Bill Clinton and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, but part of the movie will dramatize Hillary Clinton's relationship with Bill during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Davis talked to EW about her identification with the situation:

Almost every woman in the world has been in that position -- it was a long time ago in my life -- where the person that you trusted looks at you and says, "I have an admission to make." It's a moment we've all lived through.

Davis also reflected on having to prepare for the role very quickly:

With something like this, you can't spend all your time worrying about what you sound like, that you're not doing the storytelling part. That has to come first.

Davis will be flying to London this weekend to meet Quaid and director Richard Loncraine. Loncraine was signed on after the project's writer, Peter Morgan, decided not to direct. Morgan also wrote Frost/Nixon and The Queen, both of which starred Michael Sheen. Interestingly enough, Sheen will appear in The Special Relationship as Tony Blair, reprising his role in The Queen.

HBO Films plans to air the movie sometime in 2011.

  • Michael Sheen Talks New Moon

Michael Sheen to play AroIn an exclusive interview with Empire, the newly OBE-honored Michael Sheen talks about his role as ancient vampire Aro in New Moon.

On director Chris Weitz, he said:

It was great to work with Chris Weitz; it was a really funny set, really relaxed. We had a lot of things in common, and hopefully we're going to work together again soon doing something.

He also talks about his short time spent on set, as well as being surrounded by the young, beautiful cast of the movie. After playing werewolf Lucius in the Underworld movies, Sheen is no stranger to the weird world of the supernatural. We're just hoping the makeup department has done a good job of making him look like an old, weathered member of the undead, or he'll be finding out just how passionate the Twilight fanbase really is.

  • New Moon's Volturi Arrive in Vancouver

The Twilight Saga's New MoonLainey Gossip has posted pictures of Michael Sheen (Aro) and Jamie Campbell Bower (Caius) arriving in Vancouver to start shooting New Moon. Both actors currently look nothing like their characters, so let's just hope the makeup and costume department do a good job of turning them into evil, old, undead maniacs.

Also pictured is pint-sized Dakota Fanning (Jane), who made a stop at LAX before jetting off for the land of vampires (Vancouver). She's set to start filming any time now, and is due to head to Italy to film the Volterra scenes later this month. A free trip to Italy? No wonder she was so keen to accept the role.

  • Tron Sequel to Get Frost-ed
    Michael Sheen

Michael Sheen, the actor who portrayed the first half of Frost/Nixon, may be playing the villain in the upcoming Tron sequel. SlashFilm reports that Sheen subtly revealed his casting via his Twitter account where he mentioned that he would be acting in a "mystery film" where he would play a character that is "in fact not a person at all." Then Sheen asked his 7,000+ followers to vote on their favorite Jeff Bridges movie and remarked that he was "personally very happy to see so many Tron fans."

Next, Sheen said he was off to Vancouver, coincidentally the shooting site of the Tron sequel (production photos have been popping up since last month). When someone pointed this out to Sheen, he responded that "without giving too much away, I already knew."

Did we say "subtle" earlier? We take it back.

The Tron sequel arrives in theaters in 2011, and will also be available in digital 3D.

Michael Sheen will also star as one of the vampires in this little movie called New Moon, opening in November.

  • Michael Sheen Joins New Moon

Michael Sheento play AroAccording to UK newspaper The Daily Mail, Michael Sheen has been cast as Volturi vampire Aro in New Moon. Speaking about the casting, director Chris Weitz said "Michael's role is so important because he's the head of all vampires. Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat."

Sheen, who is reportedly being paid $5 million to star in the Twilight sequel, was last seen as Lucian in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and as David Frost in Frost/Nixon. The 40-year-old Welsh actor will be playing one of the leaders of Italian vampire clan the Volturi. Aro can read people's thoughts by making physical contact and rules Volterra alongside Marcus and Caius. What do you think, Twilighters -- is he right for the role?
