  • Before Bella Met Edward: Kristen Stewart's pre-Twilight Role

The world of the paranormal wasn't new to Kristen Stewart when she was cast as Bella in the Twilight Saga. She previously played a teen whose family moves into a haunted farm house and begins to experience strange events, in producer Sam Raimi's The Messengers. She also had her own paranormal experience while on set, which she discusses in the following interview.

  • Kristen Stewart Talks Joan Jett and The Runaways

Kristen StewartTwilight leading lady Kristen Stewart has swapped her brown pants and long hair for skinny jeans and a black mullet, in order to play seventies rock icon Joan Jett in The Runaways. Talking to British newspaper The Daily Mail, Stewart said:

I'm just listening to her music all the time. I'm trying to just make myself aware of the time period and what she was going through. It's one of the most immense responsibilities to play a real person. Her story's important. It's an incredibly triumphant feminist story really.

Wow, is that enthusiasm we see? It looks like Stewart has finally found a project to her liking, and it's one that doesn't include vampires, teen romance, or Robert Pattinson. Stewart and the real Joan Jett have already been spotted at a recording studio together, no doubt perfecting Stewart's voice, which was last heard in Into the Wild. It's a good job New Moon filming has wrapped, or Bella would be looking more rock 'n' roll than Stephenie Meyer ever intended her to.

  • Jesse Eisenberg Goes from Adventureland to Zombieland

Jesse EisenbergJesse Eisenberg's last movie, Adventureland, saw him romancing Twilight's Kristen Stewart. Hopefully, Stewart's stories of the undead prepared Eisenberg for his next project, Zombieland. The comedy finds Eisenberg teaming up with Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone (Superbad and the upcoming Sucker Punch), and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) on a cross-country trip of survival in a world overrun with zombies.

Let's just hope Eisenberg is able to leave the world of the undead, unlike Harrelson who mistook a paparazzi photographer for a zombie at La Guardia airport. America's answer to Shaun of the Dead is directed by newcomer Ruben Fleischer, producer of MTV's Fantasy Factory. Horror comedies are often difficult to pull off, but Zombieland has a secret weapon: a cameo featuring Bill Murray as a zombie.

The trailer for Zombieland is set to premiere before the Jack Black comedy Year One, which won't open until June 19. So, until then, check out these first-look photos of the movie.

  • New Moon Stars Talk Key Scenes

B/E TrailerMTV recently spoke to the cast of New Moon, who revealed a few important details about the upcoming movie.

Edward actor Robert Pattinson said of the movie's scale, "I liked doing Twilight, but it felt very much like an indie movie -- and [New Moon] definitely feels like it's a big movie." Mike Welch, the man behind Bella-admirer Mike Newton, talked about the Bella-Jacob-Mike date scene from the book, and attributed its inclusion in the movie to co-stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

The Twilight Saga's New Moon Poster Released
Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner had to lobby to get this one scene in the film that wasn't originally in -- and I am forever indebted to them for that. There's a scene that's in the book, the three-way date between Jacob and Bella and Mike, where Mike ends up getting sick, and it's just very awkward.

Ashley Greene also confirmed Alice's Porsche-stealing scene had been filmed, and said "It was really fun." Twilighters can now relax and stop worrying about director Chris Weitz, as it looks like all their favorite scenes will be included in the movie. As long as he doesn't mess up the much adored semi-proposal, he'll be sure to stay on fans' good sides.

  • New Moon Trailer Bites Twilight Views

Fan reaction to the New Moon trailerDeadline Hollywood is reporting that the New Moon trailer, which was released Sunday night, scored a dazzling 5.8 million views in its first 24 hours.

Shown on both MySpace and MTV, the trailer, clocking in at just under two-minutes long, has had more views than any of the Twilight teasers ever did. The third and final offering for Twilight saw 3.2 million people get a glimpse of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's on-screen chemistry, and crashed dozens of sites in the process. Viewing figures have almost doubled for New Moon -- either there's a whole new army of Twilighters out there, or existing fans are very, very excited.

  • Behind the Scenes of New Moon Video

The Twilight Saga's New Moon PosterAccess Hollywood has an exclusive new video which takes us behind the scenes of New Moon. On his role as werewolf Jacob, Taylor Lautner says:

The fans need to know that New Moon is gonna be stepped up a whole other notch. The storyline is fantastic, there's gonna be more action, and it's really going great so far.

Kristen Stewart is her usual awkward self, and talks about her friendship with Taylor Lautner, as well as his impressive dedication to the movie. With the cast being so positive about the movie, it looks like Chris Weitz may have done a good job after all. Whether he'll live up to Catherine Hardwicke's standards, though, we'll let the fans decide.

  • New New Moon Movie Stills

The Twilight Saga's New Moon PosterAs if the first trailer wasn't enough to excite fans of New Moon, today three new movie stills have surfaced online. Depicting a very wet Jacob (note the Quileute tattoo on his arm), Carlisle and Bella at Bella's doomed birthday party, and Bella and Edward in the midst of breaking up, these HQ images are the icing on an already fangtastic cake.

We're glad to see that Jacob's tattoo -- the wolves' equivalent to the Cullen crest -- is looking realistic, and fans can breathe a sigh of relief to see that, yes, Bella has what looks to be a nasty, bloody cut on her right arm. There's just one thing missing ... where's all the broken glass?

  • What Do Fans Think of the First New Moon Trailer?

Fan reaction to the New Moon trailerLast night, the first New Moon teaser trailer aired at the MTV Movie Awards. The reaction on the Twilight fansites has been as expected: giddy with a side of swooning, and an "OME" or two thrown in for good measure.

Instant hits with the fans include a shirtless Taylor Lautner, Edward's whole dialogue, and the human-to-wolf transformation. So far, they're not so keen on the lack of emotion shown in the breakup, and are already voicing their negative opinions of the changes to Laurent's meadow scene.

After multiple viewings of the trailer, we've gathered our thoughts and have come to the come to the conclusion that it's ... bloody brilliant. Kristen StewartIn a moment sure to become a YouTube classic, Kristen Stewart accepts the award for Best Female Performance at the MTV Movie Awards.

She starts by saying Stephenie Myer should be there to accept all the night's awards, then suprisingly thanks the multitude of Twilight fans, gives a nod to her castmates, and starts to exit the stage when she half drops/half pitches her award to the floor. Cameron Diaz comes to the rescue, handing Stewart the golden popcorn that snapped off the top of her award.

  • Robert Pattinson Bares All in Italy

Robert PattinsonWell ... almost all. Vampire superstar Robert Pattinson has just made Christmas come early for Twilight fans by taking his shirt off for a New Moon scene currently shooting in Italy.

Following in Taylor Lautner's footsteps, Pattinson has clearly been hitting the gym in order to bulk up for his role as the super-toned, super-hunky Edward Cullen. Other pictures show leading lady Kristen Stewart jumping into a shocked Edward's arms, after stopping him from exposing himself as a sparkly shiny vampire with diamond-like skin.

Fans the world over will we wishing they were in Bella's shoes, or at the very least an extra in the Volterra crowd. Lets just hope movie theaters invest in some breathing aides this time around, or Twilighters are going to find it very hard to focus.

Perhaps the most ineresting of the pictures is one of Chris Weitz directing Kristen Stewart at Bella's 18th birthday party. It shows Bella lying on the floor, after having been accidentally thrown against the table by vampire beau Edward. What do you think of Bella's birthday dress, Twilighters? Is it just how you imagined it?

Other images include Bella and Laurent, and the obligatory Bella-Edward almost-clinch, complete with Robert Pattinson's perfectly styled hair and his usual gray attire. Summit definitely knows how to get its teenage fans' hearts racing, that's for sure.

  • YA Zombies to Hit the Big Screen; Kristen Stewart Likely to Star

The Forest of Hands and TeethCarrie Ryan's young adult zombie novel The Forest of Hands and Teeth has just been sold to Seven Star Pictures, the studio behind Kristen Stewart's upcoming movie K-11.

The novel, which was published in March by Delacorte Books for Young Readers, has been an instant hit with critics and book bloggers. It tells the story of Mary, a girl living in a small village bordered by a fence to keep out the Unconsecrated -- savage zombies intent on destroying the town and everyone in it. Add a little bit of romance and a gutsy female heroin, and you've got a teen thriller to rival Twilight.

Rumor has it that an A-list actress is tipped to star in the movie (could it be Kristen Stewart?), and a first draft of the screenplay is being written as soon as possible. With the popularity of vampires, werewolves, and all things supernatural currently dominating the literary world, it seems book adaptations are the way to go. What could be next? Our money's on Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments trilogy. Somewhere, somebody will be closing a movie deal on that one soon.

  • Party Time for New Moon

The Twilight Saga's New MoonRumor has it filming of New Moon's Cullen-house scenes wrapped yesterday, ending with what looks like Bella's birthday party.

Peter Facinelli (Carlisle), Nikki Reed (Rosalie), Jackson Rathbone (Jasper), Kristen Stewart (Bella) , and Robert Pattinson (Edward) were all spotted wearing birthday party attire, in order to film what is one of the most important scenes in the book -- the scene where everything goes wrong.

We're happy to see that Reed's blonde wig looks more realistic than previous efforts, and this time we hope Rosalie's hair will stop changing in every scene (Twilight, anyone?). Even she isn't clever enough to change her hair whilst running from a murderous vampire. Continuity, people. It's important.

The human characters are joining vampires and werewolves on the set of the movie, as Kristen Stewart and co. have already been busy shooting scenes over the past couple of weeks.

All that's missing from the cast is the remaining members of the Volturi, who are key characters in the final chapters of the book. Dakota Fanning and Jamie Campbell Bower are the only confirmed Volturi actors so far, though expect further announcements fairly soon. • Ryan Reynolds Is an RPattz Fan

Ryan ReynoldsRobert Pattinson has another fan to add to the hordes of screaming girls he can't help but find himself surrounded by, and this one comes in the form of Blade: Trinity and Smokin' Aces star Ryan Reynolds.

Speaking to MTV, Reynolds said of Pattinson, "Oh my God,are you kidding me? Robert Pattinson in a word: dreamy."

Reynolds also talked about his role in upcoming movie Adventureland, which stars Twilight's very own Kristen Stewart. Reynolds' character, Mike, is twice the age of Stewart's Em, yet still indulges in a romantic affair. He said of his eighteen-year-old co-star "She's an old, old soul. Sometimes I wonder if she's one of the Golden Girls with a great face lift.”

Well, we're glad KStew has at least one fan besides Nikki Reed and boyfriend Michael Angarano. She doesn't seem to be getting much support from Twilighters, though maybe it'd help if she stopped referring to the fandom as "obsessive" and "retarded."

Said Reed, "K-11 is where they basically put people who wouldn't survive in the general population [in prison]. I'm playing a man who has become a woman.... I was born a man, but I never felt like a man -- I always knew that I was a woman. I just was born with the wrong body parts."

K-11 will shoot during a break between New Moon and Eclipse, and it's written and directed by Stewart's mom, Jules Mann-Stewart. It also stars Jason Mewes. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, and Rachelle Lefevre all appear and take turns thanking the "best fans in the world."

Lefevre and Greene are both wearing some pretty cool vampire contacts, while Pattinson's hair looks like it needs to grow a few inches to match Edward's trademark long locks that we first saw in Twilight. In order to stick to Stephenie Meyer's no-change-to-physical-appearance vampire mythology, perhaps it's time for some hair extentions to make an appearance.

  • Kristen Stewart Talks Twilight Sequels

Speaking once again to MTV, Kristen Stewart gave her opinion on Catherine Hardwicke's exit, Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) directing New Moon, and the possibility of Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) taking over directorial duties for 2010's Eclipse.

The reluctant star said of Hardwicke's abrupt departure: "Well, it wasn't like it was a big bomb that was dropped. It wasn't much of a shock." When asked about the circulating rumours that Bayona will be responsible for the third movie, she replied with "I mean, I'm sure Bayona is a great director. But nothing's solid, so I don't know. It's above me."

It seems even the movie's stars are being kept in the dark about where the franchise is heading, which hopefully isn't away from the Weitz brothers and into Drew Barrymore's hands. If Eclipse is indeed scheduled to shoot back-to-back with New Moon, an official announcement should be imminent.

  • New Moon Rehearsals Done, Kristen Stewart Tells Naibe

    Naibe Reynoso

Naibe Reynoso is a correspondent for ReelzChannel TV's Movie News, and occasionally shares stories from the field.

Just days before the DVD release of Twilight, Kristen Stewart made an appearance last night at the Mann Chinese Theatre in Hollywood to promote her latest movie Adventureland, a romantic comedy starring Jesse Eisenberg. Actress Nikki Reed, who plays vampire Rosalie in the franchise, was also there as a guest, as well as plenty of Twilight fans ready to get a glimpse of Bella.

I talked to Stewart, who looked stunning in her bright-orange mini dress. She says rehearsals for New Moon are done, and she is now excited about filming. The young actress also commented on Taylor Lautner, telling me he is "just amazing." And when I asked about her new director, Chris Weitz, she said, "He is compassionate, generous, and down to earth."

I also interviewed Adventureland director Greg Mottola about Stewart, who he cast before she signed on to Twilight. Mottola said that one day on the set Kristen told him in a nonchalant way that she got a part in a vampire movie. It turned out to be Twilight. "Lucky for me it has a huge following, and maybe we will get some of her fans to see Adventureland, too!" said Mottola.

  • Kristen Stewart Says No to Cliff-Diving

We're pretty sure no-one actually thought Kristen Stewart would dive off a cliff in the name of Twilight, and in a new interview with MTV, she has officially confirmed just that.

"I'm not going to do cliff diving unfortunately. I have to hand it off to some computerized Bella".

So, rather than use a stunt man, the New Moon production team has opted to go for CGI. Is this a wise move? Already the budget is looking bigger than its predecessor, which cost a mere $37 million to make. After raking in almost $380 million worldwide, here's hoping that Summit can improve on previous special effects; including Edward's strange musical sparkle that made him sound like a jewellery box.

  • Being A Twilight Starlet Is Hard

Don't be jealous of Twilight's Nikki Reed as she traipses around Vancouver with Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart preparing to shoot New Moon. It's not easy being (playing) Rosalie Hale. It's hard, very hard. Reed tells MTV that it was excruciating to get her hair blond for the first film. "My hair fell out," she says. "It took 36 hours initially to make me blond, and every other day, I was bleaching my head and my skin."

For New Moon, Reed won't be bleaching (and possibly balding) again. "This time around, we are testing out different wigs and stuff," she says, as part of a larger extreme makeover (and bigger budget) plan by director Chris Weitz. "The goal is for something better, just better, all around better," she says of Weitz's plans, not exactly sounding like the biggest Catherine Hardwicke supporter.

Reed has other reasons (not just possible balding and dark roots), for not wanting to bleach this time. She's hoping to squeeze in shooting a non-Twilight flick, K-11 (also with Kristen Stewart), in between New Moon and Eclipse.

Kristen StewartBacktracking from her controversial Nylon interview, Kristen Stewart told several media outlets that her words there were taken totally out of context and that she never had any intention of dissing Twilight fans. She tried to explain what happened to MoviesOnline:

I love the Twilight fans. I have literally never said anything remotely negative about them. You have to stay away from certain key words that can be twisted into a negative connotation, like the word 'psychotic' apparently is really bad. I don't understand why. I mean, I feel like it's a really humble position to take that it's not normal to find yourself in a situation where there are 5,000 screaming girls and you're literally like fodder. I feel like that's not normal and it's not something I should just say, 'Oh yeah, it's really cool. I love 'em.' I feel like everything that I said in that Nylon interview, if you actually read the whole thing, was very honest and genuine and talking about something that I am so immersed in and have absolutely no control over and I'm just trying to stay honest and true to something that I care about. Yeah, that's it.

In a sign of how hard it is to stay on message though, Stewart was recently quoted by Showbiz Spy as toying with the notion of not appearing in any more Twilight films.

I've totally had the thought; it would be so easy for me to send so many hundreds of girls into such a frenzy by saying I want no part of any future ['Twilight'] movies.

More attitude? Or are her words getting taken out of context again?

  • New Moon's Kristen Stewart Shows Some Attitude

Kristen StewartIn a profanity-laced interview with Nylon magazine, Kristen Stewart describes the Twilight promotional tour as a "psychotic situation," complaining that:

You get a slew of all these bull**** questions like, 'What's it like to kiss a vampire?', and 'How much do you love Robert?' Then you'll get one that's actually real, but you're like, 'No, I can't right now, I can't even consider [it].'

Kinda makes you wonder about how she feels about being part of the whole Twilight Saga, doesn't it? Those suspicions were underlined in a big way by her father, who responded pretty bluntly to questions about why she hadn't accompanied Robert Pattinson to the Oscars, saying that she would show up "when it's a great movie, not just one that makes a lot of money." While some fans are understandably peeved, others see her attitude as a sign of character. Over at Twilighters.org, the take is "Artistic integrity at such a young age?! That's nothing to bite at!."

  • Little Ashes Bumped to May

With Twilight fans hungry to see stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in another movie, they no longer have the weekend of March 27 to delight in both Pattinson's Little Ashes and Stewart's Adventureland. According to RopeofSilicon, distributor Regent Releasing has moved Little Ashes from March to May 8, 2009. In order to see both stars on the same weekend, fans will just have to wait until New Moon enters theaters in November.

No word yet on what award he'll be presenting, but we're betting they'll tease us and have it be one later in the ceremony.

Also no word yet if Pattinson's Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart will also take to the Oscar stage.

  • Not Much Spark Between Twilight Leads?

Stewart - PattinsonDiamond-skinned glampire Edward and deliciously blood-filled mortal Bella may be leading candidates for this year's MTV Best Kiss Award, but what kind of attraction was there betweem the actors who played those roles? A while back, a supposedly hacked Robert Pattinson Facebook account revealed hints (okay, overtly boasts) of an intimate relationship with his co-star Kristen Stewart. But did that actually happen? Or did the fire fade so quickly? Here's Robert Pattinson on the spark he shared with his co-star: "I enjoyed the process of creating these characters with her. We would spend all night talking about our scenes and the next day we would defend our points of view. That creative energy made us have a very special bond." Translation: "Honestly, I think I'd rather kiss a baboon in an old Frankenstein mask than kiss Kristen Stewart. But when you're in a hit movie, you gotta do what you gotta do." For the record, we here at ReelzChannel think Kristen Stewart is a lovely young woman. And we like Pattinson too, Medua hair and all. But phrases like "enjoyed the process of creating these characters with her" and "very special bond" hardly scream "romantic attraction." Heck, they don't even it mutter it half-heartedly.

  • Adventures at Sundance

Adventureland One of the movies attracting the most attention at Sundance this past weekend was Adventureland, which premiered to a packed house. Directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad), the movie stars SNL actors Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig, Jesse Eisenberg (Squid and the Whale), and Kristen Stewart (Twilight).

Adventureland tells the story of fresh-out-of-college James Brennan, who's headed for Europe then to Columbia grad school, where he'll live with his wealthy best friend. At James' graduation dinner, he goes over his financial checklist with his mother and father -- only to learn that his dad has recently been demoted, meaning no check for James. To raise the money for grad school, he takes a summer job at amusement park, where his adventures include nearly being stabbed by a crazed dad seeking a stuffed panda.

Mottola said Adventureland was loosely based on his life growing up in Long Island and a summer job working in an amusement park. He also revealed that Kristen Stewart's character Em is a "composite of a few ex-girlfriends."

  • Twilight's Kristen Stewart Talks Joan Jett Details

Kristen StewartIn an interview with Empire about Twilight, Kristen Stewart also revealed some details about her next project, a biopic of Joan Jett called The Runaways. While no casting news regarding who will play the members of her band, which included '80s rocker and popular poster subject Lita Ford, was offered, Stewart gushed about the project: "It's so exciting that I can even talk about it now, because I haven't been allowed to for a really long time. It's about the forming and death of this band [The Runaways], and it launched Joan Jett's career and she became the icon for females in rock and roll. It's an absolutely insane concept for me to even think that I'm going to play her, but apparently I got the job so I'm going to give it all I've got."

The Runaways will start shooting in early 2009, working around Stewart's shooting for New Moon.

  • Twilight Stars Angry at Director's Dismissal

Kristen Stewart and Robert PattinsonIs there trouble in teen vampire paradise? Summit Entertainment, the production company behind the Twilight franchise, wants to whip out a sequel while the original's fans are still bloodthirsty and its stars still look vaguely teenish. It has canned Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, whose perfectionist streak would not accommodate such a quick production schedule. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Hardwicke's departure has angered burgeoning stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who want no part of a rush job that fails to live up to the standards Hardwicke set for the first iteration. Stewart is reported to be "especially" furious -- but hopefully such feelings will have dissipated when shooting starts. Nothing can derail a vampire movie like stars delivering contractually required, zombie-like performances.

  • Kristen Stewart Goes From Bella Swan to Cherry Bomb

Joan JettVariety reports that Twilight vampire-bait Kristen Stewart will be playing Joan Jett in an upcoming biopic about the 1970s-era all-female teenage rock band, The Runaways. Fronted by Jett and Cherie Currie, the now-mostly-forgotten quintet went platinum on the strength of hits like "Cherry Bomb" and helped pioneer the notion that heavy-metal ladies could rock just as hard -- and pose just as goofily -- as heavy-metal men. Still, if anyone can relaunch a craze for shiny skin-tight catsuits paired with hardcore softball mullets, it's major-star-waiting-to-happen Kristen Stewart. Let's just hope the script is as inspired as the casting choice.

  • What's Next For Twilight's Kristen Stewart?

Kristen StewartFans won't have to wait until Twilight sequel New Moon debuts to see Kristen Stewart on the big screen. Up next for the young star is Adventureland, a romantic comedy set in an amusement park in the 1980s, from writer/director Greg Mottola (Superbad). The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg as a college student who takes a job at Adventureland and falls for fellow co-worker Stewart. Sounds like a perfect match, considering Stewart seems to fall for men with dark secrets and Eisenberg certainly has one.

Adventureland opens March 27, 2009 and co-stars Ryan Reynolds, Bill Hader, and highly active scene-stealer Kristen Wiig.

  • Director's Return May Hinge on Bigger Budget for Twilight Sequel New Moon

New MoonA surprise appearance by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke at a screening last weekend provoked squeals of excitement from fans of the movie. It was, Entertainment Weekly observes, "as if Zac Efron -- or Twilight's own Rob Pattinson, for that matter -- had just strode on stage and dropped his drawers." Yet whether or not she will be the director of New Moon remains up in the air. She has not yet officially signed on for the sequels and was reportedly sequestered with lawyers, agents and studio executives over the weekend, trying to work out a deal. One issue is that she felt hamstrung by the modest budget for Twilight, complaining that financial constraints kept her from doing some of the "very crazy, cool stuff that I wanted to do." She is particularly concerned that the budget for the sequel be big enough for location shooting in Rome and special effects that will realistically morph teenage boys into werewolves. But studio executives say that they are not yet sold on a higher budget for the sequel despite the original's spectacular success.

Still, there are already signs of budget increases to come, with Twilight stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson rumored to be getting a hefty $10 million salary hike for each of the sequels.

  • Twilight Starlets Nikki Reed and Kristen Stewart Discuss Reteaming as Men in Prison Story K-11

    Nikki Reed as Rosalie

Now that Twilight is out and on its way to likely box office glory, how will stars Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed follow their respective performances as Bella and Rosalie? Well by playing men in prison, of course.

“I play a 30 year-old man,” Reed told ReelzChannel. “I’m going to be covered head-to-toe in tattoos. I’m going to be aged. I have scruff, I have [thicker] eyebrows and I’m a meth addict. Everything about my physical being right now will not be a part of that character.”

“K-11 takes place in a dorm of the L.A. County jail,” Stewart adds. “It’s where you go if you can’t be put into the general population. It’s full of really eccentric, crazy characters. Nikki and I play two of them. Jason Mewes wakes up in this place, doesn’t know where he is and tries to get out for two weeks to see if he can integrate himself into the community. It’s this really, really sweet but really screwed up little family going on in there.”

The ambitious project will be directed by Stewart’s mother, Jules Stewart. More to come as we hear it on this intriguing movie.

  • Initial Twilight Fan Reaction Not so Warm for Pattinson, Stewart, and Gathegi

    Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart

Now that the Twilight faithful have gotten the chance to see the cast in posters, trailers, and still images, the overall reaction to the casting choices is positive. But this was far from the case at the get-go.

Message boards, fan sites, and blogs were awash with venom when the largely unknown cast was first announced for the adaptation of book one of Stephenie Meyer's wildly popular Twilight series. As any regular Internet surfer has surely observed, the more rabid the fan base, the more outright cruel the comments tend to get.

Speaking to the cast of Twilight this weekend, I found the group has managed to emerge unscathed, winning over the fans bit by bit in the months leading up to the November 21st release. But each has had their fair share of mixed emotions about first being introduced to the fan base.

"I've had girls move down autograph tables and look at me with a severe amount of disdain," says star Kristen Stewart, who portrays the story's heroine, Bella. "That is a little unnerving. [They say to me] 'Just [write] your name. Can you not write anything besides your name?'"

"You can go online and cry about what's posted on IMDb or you can read it and get a kick out of it. I have to say, honestly, genuinely, it really doesn't bother me."

Perhaps no one had a tougher time of it than Robert Pattinson, described in the novels by Meyer as being almost impossibly beautiful.

"All my [reactions were] like, 'He looks like a bum,'" Pattinson says with a chuckle.

"I was expecting that, though. I would have had the same reaction. I was embarrassed even going into the audition. I thought I'd be judged. You look on the synopsis and it's like 'Edward is the perfect man. He has impeccable face, body -- everything about him is amazing.' I was quite happy when it was 100 percent negative. I was like, 'Thank you, I'm not perfect. I'm rugged.'"

Edi Gathegi, who portrays the vampire Laurent, decided to face his attackers head-on, using humor to win them over. "The fans were sort of disgruntled about my casting choice," says Gathegi. "Stephenie doesn't necessarily have an African-American in the book and Laurent is described as being 'olive-toned.' So what I did is I decided to address the issue head on. I said, 'Listen, she describes this character as being olive-toned, but there are many different types of olives. Black olives, anyone?'"

  • Stewart and Twilight Vamps All Signed for Three Movies

    Twilight Poster

ReelzChannel was the envy of young girls across the nation this weekend, spending an entire Saturday with the cast of Twilight.

Summit Entertainment, which made Twilight, is thrilled with the early hype around the November 21st release, but they are being cautious not to count their chickens before they hatch. Most industry insiders already consider an adaptation of the second book, New Moon, a foregone conclusion, but thus far Summit has only admitted to pre-production work on the script.

During the course of the marathon junket, we had the chance to confirm that each and every character from the book series is signed on to three Twilight movies.

What about Breaking Dawn? Since the book wasn't out when the contracts were drawn up, it was not part of the deal. Translation? If this series gets all the way to part four, Summit is either recasting or Stewart, Pattinson, Lautner, and crew can look forward to a nice, fat raise.
