• Trailer for The Road with Viggo Mortenson, Charlize Theron Released

  Dimension Films has just released a new trailer for The Road, starring Viggo Mortenson and Charlize Theron and based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men).

  The trailer makes the movie look like a bad combination of Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, and Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds. However, the novel is nothing like this, and the movie is directed by John Hillcoat, the Aussie who brought Nick Cave's fantastically dark Western The Proposition to cinematic life. So we're hopeful The Road will be nothing like the unfortunate trailer mishmash.

  The movie is due in mid-October and will also star Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall. The story involves a father (Mortenson) and his son wandering south across a post-apocalyptic America, which is largely devoid of life, thus turning many people to cannibalism. Screenwriter Joe Penhall adapted the novel, which won McCarthy a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2007.

• Viggo Talks Hobbit, The Road and Poe

  

  Viggo Mortensen was a recipient of the Half Life Award at the 2008 Cinevegas Film Festival. The actor was on hand to receive the award as well as to promote his film, Alatriste, which was screening at the festival.

  ReelzChannel.com had the chance for an exclusive interview with the amiable Mortensen during the festival and we got some great info on the actor's upcoming projects.

• Cinevegas Review Round-Up: Part One
  

  

  ReelzChannel.com has been enjoying the sun, cinema and sin (not necessarily in the order) of Cinevegas all week. This is quite a festival, with some great world premieres, impressive star presence (Viggo Mortensen, Don Cheadle, The Rock and Dennis Hopper, to name just a few) and lavish parties at the hottest Vegas clubs.
  

  Today we've got our first run-through of reviews from Cinevegas. Some are good, some are not so good and some are somewhere in-between. While not all will make their way to your local cinema, there are certainly enough excellent films here at Cinevegas that you can expect quite a few of these titles to surface on cable, at your local video stores and theatrically over the next year. • Movie news: Appaloosa and He's Just Not That Into You

  Renee Zellweger has signed on to star in Appaloosa, a Western drama that will be directed by Ed Harris (A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13). The movie is about "a pair of friends hired to protect a lawless town suffering at the hands of a renegade rancher," says Variety.com.

  Harris, who will also be starring in the movie, adapted the script with Robert Knott (with whom he worked in Pollock) from the 2006 novel by Robert B. Parker. Harris will also be re-uniting with his A History of Violence co-star Viggo Mortensen, who also toplines the film which will start filming in New Mexico in October.

  And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Connelly (Blood Diamond), Kevin Connolly (Entourage), Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers), Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard) and Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love) are all close to closing casting deals in Ken Kwapis's (License to Wed) film adaptation of He's Just Not That Into You.

  As we reported in June, Drew Barrymore will be producing and starring in the movie, based on the book by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo.

  And finally, MTV.com is reporting that actress Rosario Dawson (Grindhouse, Sin City 2) won't be in Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno after all. Although Smith wrote the role of Miri with Dawson in mind, it appears she is too busy with her other projects (most notably Eagle Eye, which will be directed by D.J. Caruso) to fit it into her schedule. We wonder if Smith will delay shootnig Zack and Miri to get his muse?
