  • Joseph Gordon Levitt's Favorite Movie

Orson Welles was a brilliant filmmaker, no one argues about that, but his masterpiece is usually considered to be Citizen Kane. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra's star Joseph Gordon Levitt took the route less travelled and chose a lesser-known, but no less great, Welles movie as his favorite. Check it out below:

  • (500) Days of Summer Reviews

    (500) Days of SummerIf Harry Potter is not your kinda guy, then perhaps check out (500) Days of Summer, the new romantic comedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. It's one of the better-reviewed movies of the year and certainly the best-reviewed romantic comedy, like, since, Annie Hall. It's opening on only 27 screens (vs. 4,325 for Potter 6), but see if it's playing near you.

    10"...enchantingly original and romantic..."

    — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

    8"...winningly seductive..."

    — A. O. Scott, New York Times

8"Boy meets girl, boy loses girl. It’s been done to emo death. That’s why the sublimely smart-sexy-joyful-sad (500) Days of Summer hits you like a blast of pure romantic oxygen."

    — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

7"While perhaps a tad too quirky for its own good, this is still one of the best, most insightful romantic comedies in a very long time."

    — Bill Gibron, filmcritic.com

8"...it's hard to imagine a more delightful, witty, well-acted and inventive comedy hitting screens this year."

    — Claudia Puig, USA Today

  • New Japanese G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Trailer Reveals Cobra Commander

A new trailer for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra as been released in Japan, and while it only offers brief glimpses of new footage, one such glimpse is seeing Cobra Commander himself. The appearance is a blink-and-miss moment of Joseph Gordon Levitt in what looks more like a complicated surgical mask than the hooded getup the character is known for in the cartoon series and comic books. Perhaps he's afraid of catching a cold? See for yourself in the trailer below:

  • New G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Poster and Other News

G.I. Joe: Rise of the CobraLast month, the international poster for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra used a fire-and-ice color scheme that said "the Joes are cool and calculated agents of the government" while Cobra is "hot, sexy and dangerous."

The latest poster levels the playing field, putting all the character in the same blue tint but changing their locations. The Cobra characters look like they're living in an aquarium while the Joes tower over France with sweet metal abs on top of their accelerator suits. Oui oui, those are some real American heroes.

In other G.I. Joe-related news, Cobra Commander (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) has come to the defense of director Stephen Sommers, who was reportedly fired from G.I. Joe after some poor test screenings. The story turned out to be false, and Gordon-Levitt shared nothing but positive accolades about Sommers to MTV:

Stephen Sommers is like a big kid. We’d get to set every day and it was like playing with toys except the toys are bigger. No one was more excited about the big toys than he was. He talks real fast and real loud and gets really excited. Who else should direct G.I. Joe but a big kid who loves big toys?

Not everyone would agree. An audience member from a March screening wrote an early review for SlashFilm, saying Paramount should be "embarrassed" by the movie. The reviewer goes on to say that the very popular character of Snake Eyes (Ray Park) is "the best part of the movie." Knowing that could be half the battle to getting G.I. Joe fans into theaters August 7.

  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt On Board for Christopher Nolan's Inception

Joseph Gordon-Levitt to star in Inception Along with starring in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has officially joined the cast of Inception, the next film from Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. Gordon-Levitt will replace James Franco, who was originally slated to star, but had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts. The movie is scheduled to go into shooting this summer and has a tentative release date of July 16, 2010.

The plot line has been kept under strict secrecy, although Nolan gave a vague and teasing descritption of the movie as a sci-fi thriller involving "the architecture of the mind." Already cast are Leonardo DiCaprio as a successful business man, 2007 Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard as his wife, Juno's Ellen Page as a brainy sidekick, and Cillian Murphy -- who played Scarecrow in Nolan's Batman Begins -- in an unknown role.
