It's good to have a fan base, particularly such a dedicated and relentless one. After a long struggle, Cherrybomb, an edgy coming-of age drama starring Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies), has finally secured a distribution deal. Although it was well received on the film festival circuit, getting Cherrybomb out to general audiences proved more of a challenge. The producer credited the a fan-organized lobbying campaign with making the difference.
With a lot of independent films, it is hard to get them noticed. Rupert Grint has a very dedicated fanbase and it was very much down to them that this started.
Although the exact release date hasn't been fixed yet, it is now expected to hit theaters in the UK in the first half of 2010 and filmmakers are in negotiations with an American distributor.
The trailer already offered a few glimpses at what a different side of Grint this picture will show off, as he competes for the affections of a femme fatale in a wild weekend of drugs and theft.
