  • Mickey Rourke and Megan Fox Get Some Passion Play In

Megan FoxProductionWeekly's Twitter page revealed that Passion Play starts production this month.

Mitch Glazer's period drama Passion Play starring Mickey Rourke & Megan Fox will shoot in New Mexico from Oct. thru Dec.

Passion Play is the directorial debut for screenwriter Glazer (Scrooged), who also wrote the script. It follows an unusual romance between a down-on-his-luck trumpet player (Rourke) and a caged circus freak (Fox), which forms when Rourke saves Fox from a ruthless mobster. Fox described the project and her character to MTV last month.

I'm doing a movie called Passion Play with Mickey Rourke. There is a love story there, it's clearly not going to be a typical one. My character is basically a circus freak, she lives in a cage 'cause she has wings. She's not an angel, but she has these giant wings that grow out of her back. She's a freak and so she's on display basically with the circus.

Passion Play is set for release sometime in 2010.

  • The Wrestler Actor Pleads Guilty to Steroid and Assault Charges
    The Wrestler

In a tragic example of life imitating art, Scott Siegel, who played a steroid pusher in The Wrestler, recently pled guilty to possession of steroids and other charges. According to LoHud.com, in an attempt to avoid arrest by the Drug Enforcement Administration on February 18th, Siegel fled in his truck, ultimately leading police on a "wild demolition-derby-style chase" before being arrested.

Siegel pled guilty to one count of possession for 1,500 bottles of anabolic steroids and two counts of using a deadly weapon to assault officers, due to hitting several police cars and trying to run over an officer on foot. Siegel is in jail pending his January 14th sentencing and could serve up to 20 years in prison just for the top charge.

  • Mickey Rourke's The Ice Man in a Race Against Time

Mickey RourkeActor Mickey Rourke is all set to portray serial killer-turned-hitman Richard Kuklinski in The Ice Man, a film based on author Phil Carlo's 2006 best-selling novel of the same name. However, time is ticking away for Carlo, who is suffering with Lou Gehrig's disease.

Rourke is producing The Ice Man with Carlo and filming is expected to begin in the spring. But that may not be soon enough. While attending a release party for Carlo's new book, The Butcher, about another hit man, Tommy "Karate" Pitera, Rourke said that one of the biggest challenges of the Ice Man production will be "getting it released in time" for the author to see it. Rourke confessed that Carlo "doesn't have much time."

  • Iron Man 2 Set Visit Reveals Whiplash in Action

Entertainment Tonight got an exclusive Iron Man 2 set visit and revealed a few sneak peeks into the anticipated sequel. The video contains interviews with Robert Downey Jr., Gwenyth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau about the em>Iron Man love triangle, the fitness regimes of the cast, and, most importantly, a few seconds of Mickey Rourke as strong>Whiplash using his whips to destroy a car on the Monaco Grand Prix. The scene is from the initial meeting between Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, and Whiplash, explained Downey Jr.:

Tony Stark has come to Monaco, supposedly to observe the race, but then, as it happens, he is racing in it. This is where he meets his nemesis, and this big kind of action sequence unfolds on the track. This is probably about my favorite thing in the world to do professionally because you get the free adrenaline rush and it's all safe.

  • Mickey Rourke to Play Mafia Killer in The Ice Man

Mickey RourkePhil Carlo, author of the 2006 best-selling novel The Ice Man, thinks actor Mickey Rourke would be "great" at bringing serial-killer-turned-hitman Richard Kuklinski to life in a film based on his novel.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura originally bought the movie rights after the book came out, but Carlo refused to extend Bonaventura's option when he learned the famous movie producer wanted to cast Channing Tatum in the lead role. After Bonaventura's option expired, Carlo met with Rourke and the two men "hit it off beautifully," according to Carlo.

I think Mickey Rourke would really be good. He's got that sense of danger ... it's not Channing Tatum.

[Mickey's] really looking forward to being the Ice Man, and I think he'll do a great job. He's talking about it being his Raging Bull.

Carlo's novel documents how Kuklinski transitioned from killing upwards of 50 vagrants just for the fun of it to claiming the lives of another 150 victims as a hired killer for the Gambino crime family before being murdered in prison by another mafia hitman, Sammy "The Bull" Gravano.

He used to use cobblestones [to bash in his victims' heads], but he was getting gray matter on his clothes, so he stopped.

According to Carlo, he will be producing The Ice Man with Rourke, and shooting is expected to begin in the spring in New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

  • New Pics of Iron Man 2 Villains
    Iron Man 2

Some photos of the villains from Iron Man 2 have been released online, the most recent being a pedestrian photo of Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, the rival industrialist to Tony Stark/Iron Man and who provides War Machine (Don Cheadle) with his weapons.

Iron Man 2's other villain, Whiplash, played by Mickey Rourke, has already been revealed in a previously released image of Rourke in what looks like an early incarnation of his Whiplash armor. The latest image of Whiplash comes from a Marvel announcement of a new comic book series, Iron Man Vs. Whiplash, which Marvel Editor Bill Rosemann boasts will connect to the movie by filling in the details of Whiplash's history before he appears in Iron Man 2:

  • Mickey Rourke Blames Himself for Almost Ruining His Career

Americans love to see a celebrity fall from grace. Just look at the plethora of tabloid magazines and TV shows that focus on celebrities who gain weight, lose their jobs, get arrested, and O.D. Americans also love a good comeback story, it's just that those stories are much harder to come by. One of the recent "comeback kids" is actor Mickey Rourke, a once-rising star who squandered away his acting career and nearly demolished his own body in a stint as a professional boxer.

It may sound harsh, but Rourke is the first to admit his complicity in this fall from grace. While at the Sarajevo Film Festival, Rourke took the blame for his early career failures, saying, "I wasn't real responsible," and that he "paid the price for it."

It's better to never work than to have worked and become a has been. I have been a has been for 12, 13 years. You feel terrible about yourself, you are not in control any more.

Even though boxing damaged his body, Rourke said that it gave him the mental fortitude to forge ahead with his acting career once he could longer step in the ring.

I think sports gave me a mindset to keep moving, that I'm not dead. You learn to pick yourself up and keep going .

Now, it appears Rourke's career has been resurrected. He earned an Oscar nomination for his turn as a washed-up professional wrester in the Darren Aronofsky-directed movie The Wrestler and he's generating considerable buzz for his upcoming role as Whiplash in Iron Man 2. When asked about Iron Man 2 in Sarajevo, Rourke said that it will "be better than Iron Man 1, that I can guarantee you."

  • Are there Too Many Villains in Iron Man 2?

Iron Man 2It's a common problem for comic book-movie sequels: too many villains. In Iron Man, director Jon Favreau kept things simple by having Robert Downey Jr. square off with only one major villain, Jeff Bridges. For Iron Man 2, Downey Jr. will face off against Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and possibly fighting with best friend Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle) as War Machine, whose appearance was confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Cheadle told MTV that his time in the War Machine armor was "significant" and that there will be tension between himself and Downey Jr.:

We kept asking ourselves: How does that play out with Tony Stark being an independent contractor doing what he wants to do, and Rhodes actually being in the military. There's a real chain of command he has to follow. What's the conflict that creates?

Will featuring so many potential adversaries in Iron Man 2 weigh down the movie? Favreau seems aware of the potential villain overload and doesn't see it as a problem:

We had to walk a fine line. I think you're good for number two. Two seems to be the charm because you got your origin story out of the way. You can add some complexity to it and you have room, because you don't have to tell the origin story, to introduce the characters. When you get to number three, you can get hidebound. You're like a beached whale sometimes because you have so much, you collapse under the weight of the complexity that you've created.

Favreau has suggested that a potential Iron Man 3 will likely focus on arch-nemesis Mandarin. Thus far, no other villains have been named. That ought to keep the "complexity" down.

  • Jon Favreau Discusses the New Characters in Iron Man 2

    Comic Con 2009

Iron ManWriter, actor, director Jon Favreau understands the importance of winning over the core comic book fan base, which is why he debuted footage of both Iron Man films at the San Diego Comic-Con. About the über-zealous fans, Favreau said, "The geeks have inherited the Earth, and that's good news for us."

In a roundtable interview after the Iron Man 2 footage was shown, Favreau explained why Whiplash (played by Mickey Rourke) and War Machine (Don Cheadle) were featured instead of Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), the original choice for the teaser.

The jury was out on Scarlett for a while ... and when those pictures came out online everybody was like, "Wow." So, I was like, "Okay, that's not the big one," you know? And, with Whiplash, we kind of wanted to show a little bit more of what we're doing with the technology of that character and explain how it fits into the story.

Favreau explained that the character of Whiplash is very much a dark version of Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.).

We want to unify the technology of what's going on with Iron Man, what's going on with Whiplash, and ... when ... (Rourke's character is) building Whiplash, it's mirroring in a lot of ways the assembly of the (Iron Man) armor, except under different circumstances. So, it's almost like the shadow version of Tony Stark coming from a different place going through a similar journey as him.

The part of the Iron Man 2 teaser that seemed to most electrify the audience in Hall H was the footage of War Machine, a souped-up, Iron Man-on-steroids hero. Favreau explained:

The thing that's fun about War Machine is it's over-the-top ... Iron Man is the sleek, elegant version where everything is contained under the airframe and War Machine is, you know, the over-the-top, everything hangin' out and ... it creates a little bit of a rivalry between the two of them in that respect. So, we use guns ... there's lots of gun porn in this movie, lets put it that way. And it's not just with that character, there's a lot — we're living in that world and it's the extreme version of the military industrial complex. That's the pool that we spawn from.

Iron Man 2 also stars Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. There are also rumors that either Bruce Banner or the Hulk will make a cameo appearance in the film, but Edward Norton has refused to comment.

  • War Machine to Appear in Iron Man 2

    Comic-Con 2009: San Diego

    Iron Man 2

Terrence Howard's prophetic utterance of "next time" from Iron Man is the key to Jon Favreau and company's biggest surprise revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. During an Iron Man 2 panel discussion, Favreau told the crowd that War Machine will indeed appear in the movie:

We wanted to use Comic-Con as our venue to have the first images of War Machine come out. There's been talk of whether it was [in the film] or not, and we've been holding back. We haven't talked officially about it. We wanted to show the fans some of that.

For those unfamiliar with the character from the comic books, Favreau explained:

War Machine is another character that's based on the Iron Man technology. James Rhodes, or 'Rhodey,' the character in this film played by Don Cheadle [replacing Howard], he has his own suit. It looks different, different coloring, different weapons on it. War Machine and Iron Man, typically in the books, are at odds. And so, it's Iron Man facing up against someone of equal power and stature using the same technology.

Favreau then showed a 5-minute clip of the movie that featured Cheadle being offered the armor by Tony Stark rival Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) and ended in an action shot of War Machine firing weapons from his armor.

With Mickey Rourke looking to complicate things as nemesis Whiplash and Scarlett Johansson possibly working to bring down Tony Stark as well, the addition of War Machine is sure to give Robert Downey Jr. a lot to deal with in the sequel. After seeing the footage of War Machine, Downey Jr. was not pleased.

"I can't believe your rig is better than my rig," Downey Jr. said to Cheadle.

"It was a contractual thing," Cheadle responded.

  • Sam Rockwell Says Iron Man 2 Is "Awesome"

    Comic Con

Iron Man 2The stars were out at the San Diego Comic-Con to promote their movies and we were there to talk to the cast of Iron Man 2. In the sequel to Iron Man, Sam Rockwell plays Justin Hammer, Tony Stark's competitor and, ultimately, his nemesis. However, according to Rockwell, the role of Hammer was not so clearly defined when he initially took the role. Rockwell said:

We sort of didn't know where (Justin) was going and we discovered that as we shot the film, which is also kind of exciting. It also takes the pressure off you, because you're like — you know, I got a speech a half-hour before we shot it. I got a speech at lunch time, so I had to learn that and figure that out and use little tricks, you know, but we got it. It's on film, it's on celluloid.

Only minutes before the interview, Rockwell had been on stage in front of more than 6,000 fans for the Iron Man 2 panel. He was somewhat subdued during the panel and did not say very much. When asked if the crowds were intimidating, Rockwell said:

It's a little intimidating, but seeing the trailer is really wild because we've been working on the film — we just wrapped about a week ago, so it felt like a smaller endeavor to us, and then to see that kind of filmmaking up there is pretty awesome, pretty impressive. So, I'm kind of like, "Wow, this is a big deal."

Sam RockwellRockwell couldn't divulge too much about the plot, but he admitted that his character and Mickey Rourke's character, Whiplash, team up against Iron Man. He even called Hammer a "patron of evil." When asked about the process of developing the character of Justin Hammer, Rockwell said that it was not difficult, even though he was only given bits and pieces of the script to work with. He said:

It's kind of like the way we worked on Charlie's Angels, with the exception that we had 17 writers for that and we only had one writer, which was Justin Theroux — thank God, you know — but it's a similar process and yet, because (director Jon Favreau) is an actor who comes from improv it's really actor-friendly, this process. So, it's very character-driven. We didn't get a full script until like a week before shooting. I would get little pieces here and there. But, I would have conversations about it and I would get the scenes and go to my acting coach — a guy named Terry Knickerbocker — and we would work on the material. Even though the material might change ... the homework I had done on it still pays off because it's still the same imaginary circumstances even though (something has) changed. So, it is possible to do preparation for a movie like this, but it's an unconventional way to work.

Iron Man 2 also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Don Cheadle as Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes/War Machine, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Jon Favreau returns as director.

  • Sam Rockwell Talks Moon and Iron Man 2

Sam RockwellSam Rockwell is an actor known for taking interesting and challenging roles, such as game show host Chuck Barris in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind or the sex-addicted Victor in Choke, which likely prepared him to take on two difficult roles, that of astronaut Sam Bell in Moon, a movie that revolves entirely around Rockwell's solo performance, and rich industrialist Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2, a role Rockwell accepted "on faith" when the script arrived only one week prior to shooting.

With both movies, Rockwell is having a great time, in part due to the amount of improvising he gets to do, especially on Iron Man 2:

It's not dissimilar to other studio movies, but the thing that's different about it is [director Jon Favreau] really likes to improvise. So we get to play more on this movie than you would on a lot of studio movies.

Moon, with only Rockwell as the camera's focus, also had opportunities for improvisation:

The first [take] that you'd shoot you'd have more room for improvisation. The second one you'd have to get it within the window of time — you had a space of time for your line. I could change the ad-libs as long as they fit the same amounts of beats. You could ad-lib but you had to be very clever about it, otherwise it wouldn't work.

Still, acting alone is a challenge no matter how much freedom you have, as Rockwell discovered working on Moon:

I had a body double, and he was a young actor who I would work with sometimes. And sometimes I would work with a tennis ball, and I would act with myself. It was pretty complicated. My sense of timing came in handy. Whether that be comic timing, or like dance or something. Timing was very instrumental in making it work.

With Moon finished and released Friday in New York and L.A. before opening in other cities, Rockwell can now concentrate on Iron Man 2 and his fight scenes with Mickey Rourke:

We don't punch each other physically, but we do punch each other in other ways — it's emotional.

And this time, he won't have to do it alone.

  • Jon Favreau Talks Iron Man 2, First Look at Mickey Rourke as Whiplash

Iron Man 2USA Today has posted a new image of Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2 as the Russian villain Ivan Vanko, a.k.a. Whiplash. They also spoke with director Jon Favreau about the character, who sports a suit similar to the one worn by Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Favreau was willing to divulge a few details, but wanted to leave a few surprises for the audience:

The technologies are definitely related. That's part of the core theme of the film ... [Vanko] has has constructed his own version of a suit ... We like to play into and against the expectations that people might have, so we mixed it up a bit.

Whiplash's unique contributions to the suit include a pair of whips (of course).

The article confirms that the image of Rourke is set at the Monaco Historic Grand Prix. Now that we've seen Rourke, we can't wait to hear him, as he's been brushing up on his Russian to lend his character some authenticity.

  • Mickey Rourke Learned Russian for Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2Mickey Rourke's career has experienced a resurgence following his turn in Sin City and his Oscar-nominated performance as a charismatic but troubled has-been wrester in Darren Aronofksy's The Wrestler. Now, Rourke will appear as the nemesis of Tony "Iron Man" Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Rourke talked about his upcoming role as the villain in Iron Man 2. Rourke plays the heavily tattooed Russian Ivan, also known as Whiplash. In preparation, Rourke took a stab at learning a little of his character's native tongue:

I decided to do half my role in Russian, and that's hard because the Russian language doesn't roll off the English-speaking tongue very easily. I spent three hours a day with a teacher, and after two weeks I know four sentences! Let me see, it's sort of like ... "Yezzamee menya ... Yezzamee manya obott ... Er, nemaboootty menya..." It means, "If someone kills me, don't wake me up, because I'd rather be dead than live in your world."

We can't wait to see what Rourke looks and sounds like dishing out those lines.

  • Catfight on Iron Man 2 Set -- PLUS a Climactic Fight Scene!

Iron Man 2Rumors say that Scarlett "Black Widow" Johansson and Gwyneth "Pepper Potts" Paltrow aren't playing nice together on the set of Iron Man 2.

While admittedly, you can't believe everything the British papers say -- especially the Sun -- the paper reports that Paltrow feels her on-set rival is hogging the limelight and now sparks are flying between the two female leads.

    According to their unnamed source...

Gwyneth has become very frustrated with Scarlett. They come from different worlds and have completely different styles. Gwyneth has found Scarlett very demanding of the attention of the crew. It's not a happy set.

The insider went on to say that all this stems from jealousy over the fact that Scarlett gets to wear tight leather outfits and carry guns, while Gwyneth is relegated to business suits and office scenes. Oh the drama!

Almost as a side note, the article mentions that Gwyneth will get her chance for action in movie's the climactic battle scene...

The most spectacular sequence in the movie is a huge fight between Robert Downey Jr. and Mickey Rourke, and she (Paltrow) is going to be right in the thick of things. That section of the movie is going to be three straight weeks of filming in June. It is by far the most expensive sequence, the centrepiece of the whole project.

Now that's the kind of drama we want to see!

Iron Man 2Sam Rockwell (Choke) will be portraying Justin Hammer, one of the classic Iron Man rogues in next summer's Iron Man 2, but don't expect to see the Marvel Comics version of the character. According to Rockwell, the character was updated for the movie:

They wanted to go with a rival for Tony Stark who is closer to his age, and make him American

When MTV showed Rockwell a copy of Iron Man #240 featuring Hammer, Rockwell joked:

That looks like Jeremy Irons. I guess they couldn't get Jeremy Irons for it.

  • Robert Downey Jr. Pumping Up for Iron Man 2

Actor Robert Downey Jr. has been working non-stop since he played Tony Stark in Iron Man (2008). His hilarious portrayal of Kirk Lazarus, an actor who undergoes a skin pigmentation-altering procedure to “get into character” in Tropic Thunder (2008), was followed with a performance as a journalist in The Soloist (2009), and he recently completed filming for Guy Ritchie’s latest endeavor, Sherlock Holmes, due in theaters this December.

While Downey Jr.’s portrayal of the world’s greatest detective (sorry, Batman) in Sherlock Holmes is eagerly anticipated, what fans are really curious about is his return to the role that brought him his most recent wave of fame. Iron Man was the 2nd-highest grossing film of 2008 and helped further legitimize superhero films as a distinct movie genre capable of both financial and critical success.

In a recent interview with ET!,

    Downey Jr. said:

"It's one thing to say you're Iron Man, it's another thing to be fully ready to do that."

When asked if he would be in shape to play a superhero after losing weight to play the gaunt Sherlock Holmes, Downey Jr. replied:

"I'm on Beefcake Charlie status. I've got to not be the skinny Brit anymore. I have to be the Tony that you know and may have loved."

Gwyneth Paltrow returns as Tony Stark’s assistant, Pepper Potts with Samuel L. Jackson resuming his role as Nick Fury. Iron Man 2 also stars Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Mickey Rourke as Whiplash and Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer.

Next Showing: Iron Man 2 blasts into theaters May 7, 2010.

  • Sam Raimi Unaware of Possible Spider-Man 4 Casting

Sam RaimiWhen Mickey Rourke officially signed on for Iron Man 2, there were reports that Rourke was also being considered for Spider-Man 4. According to MTV, Spider-Man 4 director Sam Raimi was not aware of it. Said Raimi:

Other people [involved in the film] could have been considering Mickey Rourke for a villain, talking about the Spider-Man films, and maybe they didn't tell me. That could be true. Maybe they asked an agent for availability and hadn't yet come to me and said, ‘Sam, this guy's available, would you like to work with him?' I love Mickey Rourke, by the way, but they hadn't yet come to me about that.

So those of you writing Raimi hate mail, you can stop now.

  • Iron Man 2 Casting Confirmed for Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett JohassonDeadline Hollywood has supplied the scoop and final word regarding Iron Man 2 casting rumors that have been floating around of late.

First off, Mickey Rourke, fresh from his Oscar-nominated popularity, has finally signed on to play an unknown Russian antagonist, which every geek knows is probably a villain called Whiplash. He'll be in good company as the main baddie against fellow "comeback kid" actor Robert Downey Jr. in the title role.

Next, we have word that Scarlett Johansson will indeed be replacing Emily Blunt in the role of Black Widow, the Russian spy and possible new love interest for Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. This also may be the reason why Gwyneth Paltrow has not yet been alerted to her involvement in the sequel, or the lack thereof.

Incidentally, Johansson finished last in our user poll about who should play Black Widow.
