• More Ben Affleck News: He Almost Nails Vintage Bee Gees Look

  Very few men can wear their hair long and their beards full and still look like they spend more time grooming themselves than a Revlon model, but Ben Affleck is one of those men. • Affleck Adds Triple Threat to Town

  Ben Affleck has signed with Warner Bros. to do triple duty on The Town, an adaptation of Chuck Hogan's novel The Prince of Thieves. Affleck will serve up a rewrite of an earlier draft from Hogan and screenwriter Peter Craig as well as directing and starring in the project. Adrian Lyne (Indecent Proposal, Unfaithful) was originally attached to direct.

  Affleck will portray a career thief who falls for the manager of a bank.

• Affleck to Join Mike Judge Comedy Extract
  

  Variety reports that Ben Affleck is in negotiations to play an ambulance-chasing lawyer in Mike Judge's next comedy, Extract.

  The actor-director would join star Jason Bateman and supporting players Clifton Collins Jr., Kristen Wiig, and Mila Kunis.

  In Extract, Batemen plays the owner of a flower-extract factory that has had a run of bad luck. His wife is also cheating on him with a gigolo.

  Extract is a Miramax production. After two botched releases with Fox Searchlight, Office Space and Idiocracy -- both of which reached cult status success on home video -- let's hope Judge finally gets a theater hit.

• Raimi to re-launch Clancy's Jack Ryan franchise

  After a brief return to his genre roots for the upcoming horror flick Drag Me to Hell, Sam Raimi is set to return to the mainstream once again, this time to take on Tom Clancy's legendary CIA analyst/reluctant hero Jack Ryan. Variety reports that the Spider-Man helmer is in negotiations to relaunch the action franchise that exploded out of the gate with 1990's The Hunt for Red October and ended - rather ignominiously - with 2002's The Sum of All Fears after receiving the Ben Affleck Kiss of Death. According to Variety, Raimi and studio backer Paramount are eyeing a summer 2010 release for the first new Jack Ryan flick.

  The question before us now is: Who should play Jack Ryan? We nominate Ryan Gosling. Discuss.

• Something's fishy in State of Play

  Things aren't starting out well for State of Play. First Brad Pitt dropped out, now Edward Norton is following suit.

  Pitt departed the film just before Thanksgiving over script issues, which has left Universal quite displeased, and was replaced by Russell Crowe.

  However, the official line is that Norton is dropping out over scheduling troubles. You see, when Crowe signed on, production got bumped to January, which evidently conflicted with Norton's plans to play the lead(s) in the comedy Leaves of Grass. Now Ben Affleck is in talks to replace Norton as the politician caught in a murder conspiracy.

  Quite a lot of hullabaloo considering filming hasn't even started yet. Not what one calls a 'good omen.'

• Studio pulls Affleck's flick -- and not because it sucks

  Upon hearing the news that a studio has decided against releasing a Ben Affleck movie, one naturally assumes it's because the movie probably sucks -- a perfectly reasonable assumption, given the remarkable consistency of the actor's suckage over the last decade.

  Not so fast. Variety reports that the U.K. release of Affleck's directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone, has been delayed indefinitely due to its similarity to the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, a four-year-old British girl who went missing while on holiday in Portugal.

  Talk about bad timing.

  Based on the bestselling novel by Dennis Lehane, Gone Baby Gone is enjoying tremendously good buzz, and is being touted by many as a potential Oscar contender. Ben Affleck, Oscar-winning director? Not sure if I could handle that. I was just starting to get used to Ben Affleck, Oscar-winning screenwriter.

• Now Affleck is Just Not That Into You

  Ben Affleck joins the rest of the known Hollywood universe in the cast of Ken Kwapis' He's Just Not That Into You.

  That makes: Affleck, Anniston, Barrymore, and Johansson, in case you're counting. Who knew so many people wanted to work with the guy who made The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants?
