  • Dennis Quaid to Portray Bill Clinton

Dennis QuaidActor Dennis Quaid is riding a wave of genre movies that have led him right to ... the White House. (On film, that is.)

Quaid recently portrayed General Hawk in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the film adaptation of the popular toy line. He's currently starring in the sci-fi/horror flick Pandorum. And Quaid just wrapped filming on Legion, which Quaid called a "first-class drive-in zombie movie."

Next up, he will portray one of the most popular — and controversial — presidents in American history, Bill Clinton. Quaid said he spent all summer prepping for the role, which is now in production, including packing on a few pounds to get better into character.

I've been eating everything that isn't nailed down. I think I'm ready for it. I've got the voice. Just got to keep working on it and see where we can go with it.

I had a relationship with Bill Clinton when he was in the White House. He was the smartest person I've ever met, and that's the key to him. He's just a really, really bright guy. A tough role, a challenging one. He's never really been done in a movie, except in parody [John Travolta in Primary Colors]. Travolta did a good job on him, but Clinton's from Arkansas, I'm from Texas. I think I've got him.

  • Dennis Quaid Wants More Action in G.I. Joe 2

Dennis Quaid in G.I. JoeDennis Quaid has already said he'll be there for a G.I. Joe sequel, but he wants even more to do.

I want to get out of the pit.... I want to ride a horse and shoot a gun. I want a horse with an accelerator suit.

Quaid was apparently impressed with G.I. Joe, saying director Stephen Sommers hit a "home run" with the first movie. While G.I. Joe was not a huge hit domestically, its opening weekend made $100 million worldwide, opening the door to a sequel.

  • Pandorum Reviews

PandorumPandorum was not screened for critics and, predictably, the reviews are not very good. The movie does have, however, one of the creepiest posters of the year.

6"...non-sci-fi fans may well themselves be driven mad long before the end."

    — Clark Collis, Entertainment Weekly

5"From the producers of the Resident Evil movies comes ... a Resident Evil rip-off in space! An actual Resident Evil sequel in space would have been better — at least then we'd have Milla Jovovich to look at instead of Ben Foster."

    — Luke Y. Thompson, E! Online

4"Quaid and Foster spend far too much time trying to figure out what's going on, but audiences are liable to respond only with a dispirited "Who cares?""

    — Nathan Rabin, Onion AV Club

    3"...tempts the viewer into hypersleep."

    — Rob Nelson, Variety

    3"...a claustrophobic, tedious sci-fi thriller..."

    — Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter

  • G.I. Joe Actors Ready for Sequel

G.I. JoeSure, it had cheesy dialogue and ridiculous-looking effects, but G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra's $100-million opening weekend was enough for Paramount to grant director Stephen Sommers and company another "Go, Joe!"

The cast is ready to return, with Dennis Quaid telling io9:

Yeah if they do one, I'm there.

And Byung-hun Lee, who played Storm Shadow in G.I. Joe, is reportedly starting work on the sequel at the end of the year according to a Korean news source.

Top star Lee Byeong-Heon is in the new Hollywood film, G.I. Joe 2!

He will be starting the filming by the end of this year and has been contracted for the 3rd sequel, also!

No official word on whether Sommers is retuning for the sequel, though he has said that he would shoot his live-action Tarzan movie next "unless the studio wants a G.I. Joe sequel."

What will go down in G.I. Joe 2? Well, screenwriter Stuart Beattie has already given some hints.

  • Dennis Quaid Discusses Pandorum's Appeal

PandorumGerman director Christian Alvart's latest movie, Pandorum, blends the sci-fi and horror genres to tell the story of two crew members on a deep space mission who wake up with amnesia and discover they are lost, but not alone. Actor Dennis Quaid ( G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) stars as Payton, one of the crew members on the mission, and he told Movieweb that it was writer Travis Malloy's "unique storyline" that drew him to the role.

It is hard to find any movie that is worthy. A lot of these scripts out there are so derivative. When I read a script, it is the only time I get to be an audience member. It's the first time I am dealing with it. I thought to myself, "Wow." I read it in one sitting, and I couldn't put it down. I didn't know what was going to happen until the very end. And it had such a great twist. It surprised even me. It is original, and unique.

Quaid said that Payton was an interesting character to play because of his mental state at the beginning of the movie.

I am very interested in the human condition. That is what I love about acting. I like studying different people and their psychosis. I like discovering what makes them tick. I always find that with any character I play. I need to find out what makes them tick. With Payton, I really had to start off with a blank slate. Because he doesn't know who he is. Then he thinks he knows who he is. Then he finds out something else, and he is in denial about it. Denial has a lot to do with this character. It is one of his qualities as a human being.

  • Hope Davis Talks About Portraying Hillary Clinton

Up until a few weeks ago, Julianne Moore was to star as the Hillary to Dennis Quaid's Bill in HBO Films' upcoming The Special Relationship. Moore then announced that she would withdraw from the project due to scheduling conflicts. EW now reports that HBO has signed Hope Davis (Proof, American Splendor) to take her place.

The project's focus is the relationship between Bill Clinton and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, but part of the movie will dramatize Hillary Clinton's relationship with Bill during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Davis talked to EW about her identification with the situation:

Almost every woman in the world has been in that position -- it was a long time ago in my life -- where the person that you trusted looks at you and says, "I have an admission to make." It's a moment we've all lived through.

Davis also reflected on having to prepare for the role very quickly:

With something like this, you can't spend all your time worrying about what you sound like, that you're not doing the storytelling part. That has to come first.

Davis will be flying to London this weekend to meet Quaid and director Richard Loncraine. Loncraine was signed on after the project's writer, Peter Morgan, decided not to direct. Morgan also wrote Frost/Nixon and The Queen, both of which starred Michael Sheen. Interestingly enough, Sheen will appear in The Special Relationship as Tony Blair, reprising his role in The Queen.

HBO Films plans to air the movie sometime in 2011.

  • Sienna Miller's G.I. Joe Figure Is Proportional

Being an international sex symbol, Sienna Miller is used to probing questions about her body, but recently the questions have been more about her "action" figure than her actual figure.

Starring as The Baroness in this summer's effects-intensive toy-to-film adaptation, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, it was inevitable that Sienna be immortalized as a tiny plastic figure.

When asked if her action figure would resemble her, Sienna said:

I got measured in this pod so the doll is exactly to scale, every nook and cranny.

    Sienna joked:

Kids will be killing me, because I am the baddie.

From producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is directed by Stephen Sommers and also stars Dennis Quaid as Hawk, Rachel Nichols as Scarlett, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander and Channing Tatum as Duke.

  • New Pandorum Trailer Promises Flesh-Peeling Horror

More backstory and ramped-up visual effects are unveiled in the new trailer for Pandorum, a deep space horror flick starring Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid.

Awakening from suspended animation aboard a giant spaceship 500-million miles from Earth, crewmen Quaid and Foster try to figure out what happened to their families and the 60,000 passengers on board. They soon realize that they are not alone, and that this isn't a good thing. There are things out there in the long metal corridors that are clearly no longer human. One, in particular, looks a lot like a tween-age Nosferatu. And then the flesh peeling begins.

So far, the movie looks to be the hybrid offspring of Resident Evil and Firefly, perhaps with a bit of Alien mixed in. Clearly the kind of vibe filmmakers are aiming for since one of the tag lines in the trailer is "From the producers of the Resident Evil films."

  • Channing Tatum Gushes About Sienna Miller

    Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum plays a lot of "tough guy" roles, but he couldn't have been nicer when asked about his G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra co-star Sienna Miller. After breakout performances in films such as Havoc (2005) and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006), Tatum has hit the big times with a starring role in April's Fighting and the upcoming effects-intensive comic book adaptation by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

When asked about filming with a leather-clad Sienna Miller in a recent interview, Tatum said:

She's incredible. She looks incredible in the movie. She is incredible in the movie.

    About Miller off-camera, Tatum said:

She's just the type of girl that when she ... once you're around her, you're just happy. You can't help but ... she makes everybody happy around her. And, she just has that intoxifying thing over the room that she kind of comes in and commands it...

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is directed by Stephen Sommers and also stars Rachel Nichols as Scarlett, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander and Dennis Quaid as Hawk.

  • G.I. Joe is NOT Political

Though "G.I. Joe" is a generic term for soldiers going back to World War II, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura swears his summer blockbuster G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra has nothing to do with the modern American military. Di Bonaventura told Entertainment Weekly:

This G.I. Joe has nothing to do with American foreign policy. It's about a team of skilled operatives fighting an evil organization that's trying to take over the world. There are no politics in it at all.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is directed by Stephen Sommers and stars Dennis Quaid as Hawk, Channing Tatum as Duke, Sienna Miller as Baroness, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander.

  • New Images of the Cast of G.I. Joe

Channing TatumAfter scattering images of the G.I. Joe cast all over the internets for the past few days, the folks at Paramount did us a huge favor and released them all in one big batch today. From the looks of it, characters Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes and the rest of the real American heroes have all gotten the modern superhero movie makeover: sleek, form-fitting black costumes with shiny armor plates that conveniently enhance each actor's musculature. We like what we've seen so far, but we'll reserve final judgment until we see what they're able to do with Gung Ho, the Village People dropout who serves as the Joes' Recondo (Reconnaissance Commando Doughboy).

  • Dennis Quaid gears up to play General Hawk in G.I. Joe

Dennis Quaid in Vantage PointGoing into production next week is the eagerly awaited live-action G.I. Joe flick, with Dennis Quaid headlining an (almost) all-star cast. At today's Vantage Point press day, the Enemy Mine star talked about playing Joe leader General Hawk:

"He's kind of a cross between Chuck Yeager, Sergeant Rock and maybe a naïve Hugh Hefner thrown in there," he joked. "General Hawk's aide-de-camp is a Victoria's Secret supermodel. I mean, how serious can it be?"

Quaid went on to say that the story will be set "a little bit in the future. In a way, the Joes are like this international, sort of special forces type of group that mainly fight these terrorist groups that spring up. The movie is more like James Bond, with the group being SPECTRE -- there's this evil mastermind that's behind it."

Speaking of evil masterminds, who will be playing Cobra Commander?

G.I. Joe is slated for an August 2009 release. Vantage Point opens nationwide on Friday, February 22nd.
