The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Jeff Foxworthy has been cast to voice the role of Babe the Blue Ox in MGM's upcoming animated feature Bunyan & Babe.
The movie is a modern-day twist on the classic 19th-century story of Paul Bunyan, a giant lumberjack who befriends the equally giant Babe. This new version will involve two present-day children who wander into a forest and stumble upon a portal leading to a hidden world where Paul Bunyan has lived for more than 100 years as a recluse.
This aspect of the story draws on a tragic part of the Bunyan mythology, in which the development of machines made even Bunyan's superhuman size and strength obsolete. Paul, Babe, and the children embark on an adventure to stop a greedy land developer.
According to IMDb, the movie is slated for release later this year. John Goodman is voicing the role of Bunyan and Kelsey Grammer will voice the not-so-subtly named villain developer Norm Blandsford.
