In an exercise in contradiction, Orlando Bloom has decided not to return for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, but has no problem returning for the Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit, if Peter Jackson needs him back. In an interview with MTV, Bloom claims that he would "definitely" not return for Pirates 4 after enjoying three turns as Will Turner.
I think Will is sort of swimming around with the fish at the bottom of the ocean. I had a great time making those movies. I just really wanted to do different things, but I think it's
going to be great.
At the same time, however, Bloom volunteered to return as elf Legolas, clearly giving preference to one franchise over another.
I shot an e-mail to Pete and I said, "You know, if you want me to don
the blonde wig and pointy ears again, I'd be honored to do it." He said, "Well, we'll see." They're very, very hush-hush. It's
Guillermo [Del Toro]'s movie and I'm a huge fan of that man. He's obviously going to take his own idea of it, but I'm excited for
that movie. I think it's going to be great.
The role of Legolas is not featured in J.R.R. Tolkein's original novel, though whether or not he will be included in the movie is up to Jackson and Del Toro.
