  • Timothy Dalton to Star in Toy Story 3, Cars 2 Plot Details Revealed

Cars 2Empire is reporting two exciting pieces of news from yesterday's Disney-themed showcase in London. John Lasseter, Pixar's chief creative officer and the director of several of the studio's features, announced that Timothy Dalton will have a role in Toy Story 3. He also discussed several plot details of Cars 2.

Dalton starred in two James Bond movies in the '80s as well as several TV adaptations of 19th-century British novels. You may also remember him as the thin-mustached villain of The Rocketeer. For Toy Story 3, he will play the role of Mr. Pricklepants, a theatrical hedgehog whose role in the story is not quite clear.

Continuing on the Bond theme, Cars 2 will apparently involve a spy subplot. The story's framework involves Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) traveling around the world competing in an international competition. Destinations include Japan, Germany, Italy, France, and the UK. Along the way, Mater gets involved in a case of mistaken identity when he saves the life of a British agent named Finn McMissile. Guess what? According to Empire, McMissile looks like an Aston Martin.

There's no word yet as to who will voice the character, but we agree with Empire: After the announcement about Dalton, it seems appropriate that Pixar would consider other former Bonds for the role, if not Dalton himself.

  • Jack Nicholson May Star in James L. Brooks Comedy

Jack NicholsonVariety reports that Jack Nicholson is close to a deal for a starring role in the next project from writer-director James L. Brooks (Terms of Endearment, Broadcast News, As Good As It Gets).

The untitled romantic comedy would see Nicholson starring opposite Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson. Bill Murray was in talks for the part, but production begins in two weeks and Murray has reportedly lost interest in the project and dropped out of contact with the studio. If cast, Nicholson would play the father of Rudd's character, an executive trying to win Witherspoon's heart. Wilson plays a professional baseball pitcher who's also, of course, Witherspoon's other love interest

Brooks is producing the picture, along with Paula Weinstein, Laurence Mark, and Julie Ansell, and it's scheduled for a December 2009 release.

  • Ben Stiller Spends Another Crazy Night in a Museum

Ben Stiller stars in Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian

Ben Stiller returns as Larry Daley, the bumbling-but-loveable night security guard at the Museum of Natural History from Night at the Museum. This time around, Daley has given up his night job to become an inventor. But, when his diminutive friends are shipped off to the Smithsonian Institution, it's Daley to the rescue!

Shawn Levy produces and directs Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, with Owen Wilson and Robin Williams reprising their roles as Jedediah and Teddy Roosevelt, respectively. The film also stars Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart, Hank Azaria as Pharaoh Kahmunrah, and Christopher Guest as Ivan the Terrible.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian is the first movie ever granted permission to film in the Smithsonian complex. In addition to the all-star cast, there are famous paintings, statues, historical figures, and pop-culture icons galore -- from August Rodin's The Thinker to Star Wars' Darth Vader.

  • Fockers Won't Have Roach

Whether it's needed or not, it looks like there's going to be a follow-up to Meet the Fockers, which as you'll recall was the sequel to Meet the Parents, a movie that was far better than its sequel and likely better that this future one too.

Little Fockers will presumably be about the Fockers' children. Jay Roach, who directed the first two movies, will not direct this one as he's busy with Dinner for Schmucks. John Hamburg, a Ben Stiller collaborator who did drafts on both Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, is at work on a draft of Little Fockers. A number of candidates are said to be in the running to direct, including Paul Weitz (In Good Company), David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer), and Peyton Reed (Yes Man).

Owen Wilson, who had a small role in the first two movies, could have a bigger one in this one, which is typically a good thing.
