• Gere earns Top Actor nod from Hollywood Film Fest

  The Hollywood Film Festival will honor Richard Gere with its Actor of the Year award at its 11th annual gala, reports the The Hollywood Reporter. Gere, who this year turned in acclaimed performances in two little-seen films, The Hoax and The Hunting Party, will be feted along with Director of the Year Marc Forster (The Kite Runner) at The Beverly Hills Hilton on October 22nd. 

  The fest, which touts itself as one of the more accurate predictors of Oscar success, will also be honoring Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody and Hairspray star John Travolta, among others.

• Super-agent Ed Limato to leave ICM

  Co-President of ICM (International Creative Management) Ed Limato announced Friday that he will be parting ways with the agency, reports Variety. Why does this matter to movie fans?

  Well, it's simple: Limato represents such Hollywood power players as Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington, Liam Neeson, Richard Gere, Billy Crystal and Steve Martin. And whither he goes, they shall follow.

  The trouble, of course, is that Limato is held to a non-compete agreement, which prevents him from taking his clients with him should he choose to part ways with the agency. He will likely contest the agreement.

  We'll be sure to keep you posted. After all, the future of Apocalypto II and City Slickers XVI may hang in the balance!

• Gere Loves Dogs

  Variety is reporting that Richard Gere is set to star in and produce Hachiko: A Dog's Story. Production should begin in September.

  In the film, Gere will portray a college professor who takes an abandoned dog into his home. The pooch proves the old "man's best friend" adage as the two form a bond of intense love (platonic love, you freak!).

  The story is an adaptation by Stephen P. Lindsay based on a 1987 Japanese film Hachiko Monogatari.
