  • Fans Help Secure Release of Rupert Grint's Cherrybomb

CherrybombIt's good to have a fan base, particularly such a dedicated and relentless one. After a long struggle, Cherrybomb, an edgy coming-of age drama starring Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies), has finally secured a distribution deal. Although it was well received on the film festival circuit, getting Cherrybomb out to general audiences proved more of a challenge. The producer credited the a fan-organized lobbying campaign with making the difference.

With a lot of independent films, it is hard to get them noticed. Rupert Grint has a very dedicated fanbase and it was very much down to them that this started.

Although the exact release date hasn't been fixed yet, it is now expected to hit theaters in the UK in the first half of 2010 and filmmakers are in negotiations with an American distributor.

The trailer already offered a few glimpses at what a different side of Grint this picture will show off, as he competes for the affections of a femme fatale in a wild weekend of drugs and theft. For more on the movie along along with some new clips check out this interview with stars Grint and Kimberley Nixon.

  • Robert Pattinson to Play Prince Harry?

Robert PattinsonThe latest rumor in the Twilight world is that leading man Robert Pattinson has his sights set on portraying Prince Harry in the forthcoming movie The Spare. The movie will cover the life of England's young Prince, including all the highs and lows he's faced over the years. Peter Kosminsky is set to direct the project, and is rumored to be searching for a young male lead.

Pattinson certainly has the British advantage, as well as a dedicated audience that would see any movie graced with his presence. We're not sure whether he'd be right for the royal role, though he does have a somewhat colorful reputation — much like the Prince himself. Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) and Rupert Friend (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) have also been linked to the movie, and both are apparantly vying for the lead. Watch out, Robert Pattinson — you've got competition.

  • Emma Watson Says Harry Potter Kiss Was "Like Incest"

Fans of Harry Potter are tired of waiting. After an eight-month delay that some claimed had to do with the fervor surrounding the new kids on the block — the Twilight crew — but which was more likely due to financial considerations, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will debut in less than a week.

Anticipation is high for the return of Hogwarts and the entire Harry Potter crew, but many are already talking about the next two movies in the series and the budding romance between main characters Hermione Granger (played by Emma Watson) and Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint). Those who have read the books already know how this turns out, but for those who only follow the movies — WARNING: SPOILER — Hermione and Ron share a kiss in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Despite what some might think, filming the kissing scene was not a very pleasant experience for either of the actors involved. In a recent interview, Watson said:

Rupert is like a brother to me, and our relationship couldn't be more platonic. So kissing him... well, it felt like incest, to be honest.

In another interview Watson elaborated further, saying:

This is ten years worth of tension and hormones and chemistry and everything (in) one moment. We had to ace it. Kissing is awkward, kissing is always awkward.

    Grint agreed, adding:

It's not something we were really looking forward to. It was quite a strange thing to have to think about doing.

  • Harry Potter Pal Named "Hot Sidekick" by Rolling Stone

rupert grintAs part of its 2009 hot list, Rolling Stone has dubbed Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, its hot sidekick of the year. Grint, who just turned 21, has spent nearly half his life on the Potter movie sets. Looking back on the experience, Grint still has trouble getting a handle on everything he's done:

It has been really weird. I feel like I've completely changed really quickly. I was going to a regular school, and then suddenly I did this audition on a whim and then -- well, it just sort of happened.

All grown up now, he does get to dabble in some (at times magically induced) romance in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but it isn't just Grint's role as Harry Potter's sidekick that has captured the magazine's attention. In the critically acclaimed indie coming-of-age drama Cherrybomb, he gets to play a liar, a thief, and, as Rolling Stone delicately puts it, "the badass who beds the girl." Although the movie is still in search of a distributor, his legions of fans remain determined to make sure audiences get to see exactly how hot this sidekick can be.

  • New Half-Blood Prince TV Spots, Clip, and Featurette

With the release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince approaching, the media campaign for the movie has finally begun to heat up. A couple of new TV spots have been released to whet the appetite, but don't offer much in the way of new footage.

The first actual clip from the movie, which debuted on Ellen, offers more though, with a longer version of the scene in which a magically love-sick Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint ) explains to an incredulous Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) just who the object of his affections is.

Finally, there is a new featurette, which apparently aired in Belgium, offering new scenes from the film -- including a particularly funny one with Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) popping out of a chair -- interspersed with commentary from Radcliffe, director David Yates, and others.

  • Fans Campaign for Rupert Grint's Cherrybomb

Rupert Grint has a posse. And they are determined that as many people as possible get to see his new film Cherrybomb.

Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, ventures into new territory in this coming-of-age drama, getting caught up in a wild weekend of drink, drugs, shoplifting, and stealing cars while competing for a young woman's affections. Although the new Harry Potter movie is being promoted as "sex, potions, and rock and roll," this movie really does seem to be a step beyond for the young actor who, like Daniel Radcliffe in Equus, will be getting a bit more exposure here than he is used to. If the movie gets released, that is.

Because of the economic crisis, Cherrybomb is having trouble securing distribution rights. And this is where the posse comes in. Unwilling to leave the fate of the movie up to the whims of the market, fans have launched an international petition campaign to make sure that audiences have a chance to see it. Check out the trailer below and see if you think it looks worthy.

  • News on Harry Potter 6!

Potter and Longbottom ready to rumbleHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens tomorrow, but the filmmakers are already buzzing about the next installment of the franchise.

HPOoP director David Yates has been hired on to direct the sixth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Princeand he's already formulating plans for it. "

One thing we said when we finished Order of the Phoenix is we all want a very different experience next time 'round," says Yates. "We're very proud of this film--the intensity and the emotion, everything. One of the great things Jo Rowling does in the books is she captures stages of childhood. So the next stage of childhood is a bit more sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll."

So what can we expect in Half-Blood Prince? Change. "It's about the kind of emotional and sexual politics of being a teenager," Yates says. "It's a very different swing, the next film, and I think it needs to be for the series to keep evolving. I think that's important.

"In my work, every choice I've made I've always gone for something in the radically opposite direction. Once I finish something, I'm keen to stay fresh as a storyteller to try something different. The possibilities are so rich and there are so many things to play with in that world that it is possible to re-gear tonally, slightly. So the next one will be very different, I think."

In particular, Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley, is going to have some maturing to do. "Ron does get a girlfriend in the next one. I think it does get a little bit intense," he comments. "I did another film called Driving Lessons and there was a little kiss in that. It was quite an uncomfortable experience. I didn't really enjoy it too much. It's going to be interesting."
