Former America's Sweetheart Sandra Bullock has signed on to star in the Touchstone Pictures romantic comedy The Proposal, reports Variety.
According to Variety, Bullock will be playing "a demanding female boss faced with deportation to Canada who agrees to a sham engagement and marriage with her young male assistant."
Bullock enjoyed a phenomenal run as America's Sweetheart in the mid '90s, first gaining the title in 1994 when she ended Julia Roberts's tumultuous reign. Bullock held the coveted crown for four consecutive years before relinquishing it to Gwyneth Paltrow in 1998.
The award, bestowed annually by the American Sweetheart Association, is based on a wide range of factors, including perkiness and dimple size. The title was first awarded in 1934 to child actress Shirley Temple.
The current reigning America's Sweetheart is Rachel McAdams, the first Canadian to wear the coveted crown. McAdams’s controversial win is still the subject of much debate in the Sweetheart community.
