• Gwyneth Paltrow Joins the Cast of The Danish Girl

  Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has just wrapped filming on director Jon Favreau's second installment of Iron Man, in which she plays Tony Stark's top assistant and love interest Pepper Potts. Now she's preparing to star opposite Nicole Kidman in Tomas Alfredson's follow-up to Let the Right One In, The Danish Girl.

  An adaptation of the David Ebershoff book of the same name, The Danish Girl is based on the true story of the relationship between the world's first post-operative transsexual, Einar Wegener, and his artist wife, Greta. When Greta asked her husband to stand in for one of her models one day, the experience led the two of them down the road to transformation that changed both of their lives forever.

  The script is by Lucinda Coxon and producers include Gail Mutrux, Anne Harrison, Linda Reisman, Per Saari and Kidman, who replaced Charlize Theron in the title role.

• Up Next for Woody Allen? You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger

  Always secretive about his upcoming projects, Woody Allen has released just a little teaser about his next movie, reported in THR. Called You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, the movie will star Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Gemma Jones, Lucy Punch, and Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto. Punch was called in to replace Nicole Kidman, who dropped out over a schedule conflict.

  Not many details so far on the plot, other than it revolves around various members of a family and their mixed-up love lives. Meaining, it's a bit hard at this point to differentiate it from any number of other Allen flicks, except perhaps for the bold title.

  Allen recently told the Telegraph that fans can tell ahead of time which of his movies will be good just by what they're called.

  I never title a movie until it's finished because if I look at the film and it's no good I don't like to give it an aggressive title, I give it what I call one of my hiding titles — the kind of title that is low-key and promises nothing, so people are less disappointed by it. But if I feel the film is good, I give it an aggressive, confident title and then hope for the best.

  Well, this latest title certainly does seem to be promising something. So, if this method really holds any water, Allen's latest movie just might be one of his better efforts. You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger is slated for a fall 2010 release.

• Forbes Lists Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston as Top Female Moneymakers in Hollywood

  

  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Forbes announced Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston as the biggest female moneymakers in Hollywood this past year. Many people are, of course, already taking note of the Brad Pitt connection. From June 2008 to June 2009 Jolie pulled in $27 million, while Aniston earned $25 million.

  Jolie's big paycheck comes courtesy of Wanted, which grossed $341 million worldwide, and an advance for her role as a CIA agent in Phillip Noyce's upcoming Salt. Aniston's money comes from box-office winner Marley & Me, as well as her role in SmartWater commercials. She also received an advance for The Baster, where she will star alongside Juliette Lewis, Jason Bateman, and Jeff Goldblum.

  Completing the top 10 are Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz, Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, and Renée Zellweger.

  THR also noted that the $183 million earned by the Top 10 women falls well short of the $393 million taken in by the Top 10 men. Harrison Ford topped that list with $65 million.

• Woody Allen Chooses Lucy Punch to Replace Nicole Kidman

  Variety reports that Woody Allen has chosen British actress Lucy Punch to star in his latest movie, which will be shot in London. Punch replaces Nicole Kidman, who had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict with John Cameron Mitchell's The Rabbit Hole, which she is starring in and producing.  Details of the plot of Allen's movie are unclear, but according to sources, Punch may play an escort similar to the one made famous by the Eliot Spitzer scandal.

  Punch's previous credits include Being Julia, Hot Fuzz, Young Americans, and CBS's sitcom The Class She joins a cast that includes Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, Naomi Watts, and Freida Pinto.

• Nicole Kidman Says Goodbye to Woody Allen's Latest Project

  Last night, Variety reported that Nicole Kidman will step down from Woody Allen's newest movie, which is scheduled to begin shooting in London this summer.

  The untitled project will also star Naomi Watts, Freida Pinto, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, and Antonio Banderas.

  No official announcement has been made regarding either Kidman's replacement or her reasons for leaving.

• Jolie Tops List of Best Paid Actresses

  Angelina Jolie, who has talked about retiring from acting, should probably bite the bullet and try to endure for a few more years. According to Hollywood Reporter, she was the world's highest-paid actress in 2008, earning $23.2 million for Wanted. In addition, she's in line for a raise on Wanted 2 -- that will net her over $30 million. Our prediction: a couple more movies, and a lot more nannies are in store for our favorite actress. Last year's leader, Nicole Kidman, has fallen off the list this year, which may be she's planning to play a man (who eventually becomes a woman) in her upcoming movie The Danish Girl -- male stars still earn more than their female counterpart, with Will Smith, Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp all making upwards of $30 million per flick.

• Nicole Kidman Finally Going Under the Knife?!?

  Nicole Kidman is one of Hollywood's most stunning beauties, but the almost celestial magnificence of her vast and luminescent forehead provokes much speculation: Is she Botoxing or not? While the expensively dowdy Sharon Osbourne unleashed some profane accusations about Kidman's brow last month, Kidman insists that she's never had any kind of cosmetic work done, period. After she finishes filming her next movie, though, maybe she'll change her mind. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman is planning to produce and star in The Danish Girl, a biopic about the world's first transsexual, Einar Wegener, who underwent a historic male-to-female surgical transformation in 1931. • Kidman, Jackman Pic Shifts Dates
  

  Harry Potter's date shift is shaking up all the releases this holiday season.

  The latest change is Baz Luhrmann's Australia, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Fox has shifted the date 12 days -- from November 14 to November 26, which puts the release alongside Jason Statham's Transporter 3 and Four Christmases, starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon.

• Kidman to star in Dusty Springfield biopic

  Nicole Kidman is already lining up post-baby projects, signing on to star as Dusty Springfield in a new biopic for Fox 2000. The movie will be written by Michael Cunningham, the screenwriter who also wrote the novel that The Hours was based on; i.e., the movie that earned Kidman an Oscar for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf.

  Universal is also rolling out its own competing version of the Springfield story, with Kristin Chenoweth (The Pink Panther, Bewitched) set to star.

  Springfield was a pop icon who rose to fame during the '60s British invasion with a rocky personal life filled with substance abuse, mental illness, and bisexuality. She was also, evidently, terrific movie fodder.

• Kidman drops project due to impending spawn

  One day after confirming the rumors that she is indeed with child, Nicole Kidman has dropped out of her next project, the film adaptation of Bernhard Schlink's The Reader, in which she was to star opposite Ralph Fiennes. The story, which was an Oprah's book club pick years back, is about a German teenager who has an affair with a somewhat mysterious older woman in post-WWII Germany.

  The movie had already started shooting on location in Germany when Kidman cancelled due to her pregnancy, but she had yet to get in front of the camera. No word yet on whom her replacement will be.

  All we'll say is there is just about nothing that would get between us and a love scene with Ralph Fiennes--baby be damned. Then again, from what we recall of the book, her love scenes wouldn't be with him, but the actor who played the younger version of his character. So maybe it isn't that big of a sacrifice after all.

• Kidman and Fiennes to star in The Reader

  Looks like opening a sci-fi remake isn't enough to keep Nicole Kidman satisfied this weekend. The hard-working Aussie Oscar winner has signed on to star opposite Ralph Fiennes in The Reader, reports Variety.

  The Reader is the story about a German man who recounts his post-WWII romance with an older woman. It was adapted by David Hare (The Hours) from a novel by Bernhard Schlink, which we happen to remember was on Oprah's (first) book list.

  The WWII novel-turned-film romance is well-trodden ground for smoldery Fiennes, who steamed up the screen in both The English Patient and The End of the Affair. Couple that with director Stephen Daldry (The Hours) and producers Anthony Minghella (The English Patient, Cold Mountain), Sydney Pollack (Cold Mountain, Sense and Sensibility) and Scott Rudin (The Hours, Closer), and we're getting ready to swoon already.

• Movie news: Kidman, Thompson, and Abrams

  Variety is reporting a couple of big deals rolling out:

  First, Universal will be remaking Al final del espectro (which loosely translates to The Last Ghost), a Columbian horror movie about a shut-in who sees a ghost. Nicole Kidman will star and produce, Fernley Phillips (The Number 23) will adapt the script, and the original director (Juan Felipe Orozco) will come back for the remake.

  And the man with the golden touch, J.J. Abrams, has yet another supernatural thriller in the works under his Bad Robot banner for Paramount. Other than the fact that it will be written and directed by Josh Marston (Maria Full of Grace), Abrams is keeping mum on details of the untitled project--as is his custom.

  Finally, MTV is reporting that Reece Daniel Thompson, the star of this weekend's much-buzzed-about indie comedy, Rocket Science, has been cast in Sophomore--another high school comedy, described as an "homage to Chinatown." In this one, Thompson will play a dorky sophomore who helps Mischa Barton get to the bottom of a stolen SAT scam. Bruce Willis and his daughter Rumer will costar, and Brett Simon will direct.

  Aussie beauty Nicole Kidman has signed to star in and co-produce Monte Carlo, a romantic comedy in which she plays a Midwestern schoolteacher who decides to ditch her low-budget vacation in Paris by posing as a wealthy socialite on holiday in Monaco.

  It will be directed by Thomas Bezucha (The Family Stone), who cowrote it with Maria Maggenti (The Love Letter).

  Bezucha will also be directing Orbit, a drama about a civilian who wakes up to find himself alone and adrift in space after the entire crew of the space shuttle on which he has won a trip has died. Orbit was adapted by Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard) from a novel by John Nance. 

  In other news, Universal has acquired the rights to Gone Like the Wind, a movie based on the story of Barbaro, the horse that broke its leg out coming out of the gate at the Preakness after handily winning the 2006 Kentucky Derby.

  It will be directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights).

• Kidman's a Golddigger

  Nicole Kidman has signed on for a remake of How to Marry a Millionaire, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

  The project is described as a "contemporary reinterpretation" of the 1953 classic, in which three single women who are weary of cheap dates devise a plan to lure wealthy men into marriage.

  When used in conjunction with big-budget remakes of classic films, the phrase "contemporary reinterpretation" has traditionally meant "they'll find a way to make it suck." Let's hope that's not the case with this one.
