  • Women in Trouble's Carla Gugino Talks About Her Sucker Punch Duet
    Carla Gugino

Carla Gugino is carving out an unusual career that ranges from playing a secret-spy Mom in the family-friendly franchise Spy Kids to a pregnant porn star in Women in Trouble. Gugino is currently re-teaming up with Watchmen's director Zack Snyder in Sucker Punch, playing a character that Gugino told the Palm Beach Post will require her to perform more than just a dual role.

I'm a psychiatrist at an asylum and, in an alternate world, a dominatrix, choreographer and madam in a brothel. I sing and dance. I'm Polish and I have red hair. That's all I'm going to say. I have this amazing scene where I do this wild stunt over and over. All of a sudden I was like, "I'm covered in bruises. How did that happen?"

Gugino told Movieline that she won't be alone in her song and dance routine, either.

Oscar Isaac and myself, we sing a duet. I don't know if I can say what the song is yet, but yes, I do sing and dance.

Gugino and Isaac aren't the only cast members performing musical numbers. Co-star Jamie Chung admitted in September that she, too will be singing in the movie. Gugino agrees with Chung that singing is the scariest part of working on Sucker Punch.

I've just been terrified of singing for most of my life, and of late, I've done so much of it. I did a short film that Joe Gordon-Levitt directed me in where I play a rock singer, and in Elektra Luxx, there's a very small dream sequence where I sing and do a little dance. I'm like, I've gotta get my act together!

Electra Luxx is the sequel to Women in Trouble, which is currently in theaters in limited release. Luxx, which Gugino called a "total independent film homage to Lord of the Rings," was shot before Women even reached theaters. A third movie in the series, Women in Ecstasy, has been written but has not been shot yet.

  • Carla Gugino Gets Sucker Punch'ed
    Carla Gugino

Carla Gugino will be re-teaming up with Watchmen director Zack Snyder for Sucker Punch, Snyder's all-girl action movie that he's described as "Alice in Wonderland with guns."

Set in the 1950's, Sucker Punch tells the story of Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is institutionalized by her stepfather and retreats to an alternate reality to plot her escape, along with fellow inmates Jena Malone (Donnie Darko), Abbie Cornish (Stop Loss), Jamie Chung (Dragonball Evolution), and Vanessa Hudgens (in a fighting-and-shooting change of pace from her High School Musical days).

Gugino will play a dual role as both the nurse at the institution and a madam in the alternate reality. For fanboys that want a sneak peek — of sorts — Gugino can be seen next as a porn star in the comedy Women in Trouble this November.

  • Watch a Watchmen: The Director's Cut Clip

WatchmenIn case you missed its combination debut-closing weekend (or don't live in Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis, or Dallas), here's a clip from Watchmen: The Director's Cut to enjoy before it hits DVD on July 21.

The clip shows the death scene of Hollis Mason (Stephen McHattie), the original Nite Owl, a seminal moment for fans of the comic book, who often questioned the scene's exclusion from the theatrical cut. The melancholy scene starts with a phone call between Mason and Silk Spectre I (Carla Gugino), until Mason is interrupted by some Knot Tops gang members in a lovely choreographed fight set to "Cavalleria Rusticana : Intermezzo" from Italian composer Pietro Mascagni.

  • Gugino spills Watchmen details

Carla GuginoMTV Movies managed to squeeze a few juicy Watchmen details out of Carla Gugino at last week's Screen Actor's Guild Awards. The sexy star of Sin City and TV's Entourage, who plays Sally Jupiter, aka "The Silk Spectre," in Zack Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's seminal graphic novel, described her character as "one of the craziest, most fun roles I've gotten to play...I start at 25 years old in the 1940s, and I age to 67 years old with full prosthetics in the 1980s. [Sally] is a larger-than-life character. She’s a costumed crime fighter, but her idea of a costume is very Bettie Page-meets-[Alberto] Vargas."

Gugino also referred to the film's opening title sequence as "extraordinary" and "empowering." Not exactly what she meant by the "empowering" bit, but we'll take her word for it.
