  • Globes even more cancelled

You thought it couldn't worse for the Globes, but you were wrong. Now, even the one hour news conference in which the winners would be announced has been called off by NBC.

In its place will be a half-hour long news conference open to all media. Some 'talent' (ie famous peeps) might help do the announcing, evidently to entertain the journos in attendance. However, as we said, the revolution will not be televised.

  • Globes cancelled

We'd say 'we hate to say we told you so,' but that's not true at all. In fact, we're quite proud of our auguring abilities. In any case, as we predicted the Golden Globes have in fact been called off.

Indeed, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced yesterday that it had been brought to it's gossip-loving knees by the WGA and will be calling off the Golden Globes broadcast, ceremony, and after-parties. The decision really only makes sense, what with the picketing and the fact that all the guests had cancelled.

In its place, the HFPA will hold an hour-long press conference televised on NBC in which they announce the winners. Riveting.

  • Globes forecast: grim

Although NBC hasn't officially dropped the press release bomb yet, sources all over the Interwebs are buzzing with the probable news that the Golden Globes are being cancelled as a result of the writers' strike.

Since the writers were bent on picketing and SAG forbade its members (i.e. all the actor nominees) from crowwing the picket lines to attend, it was only logical that something had to happen--lest NBC air a big bloated awards show consisting of a giant empty auditorium (although, admittedly, that might be amusing). Yet, as of last Friday, the party line was that the show would go on--both the ceremony and the broadcast.

Over the weekend, however, various news outlets have been ablaze with rumors that both the broadcast and the actual ceremony are being cancelled. Our take? Look for an announcement of an official postponement/cancellation/what-have-you any minute now.
