AMPAS released their shortlist of Best Foreign Film contenders yesterday and none of the expected high profile films made the cut!
Several movies being put up for the Best Foreign Film Oscar were being heartily pushed by their studios for consideration, including Persepolis and 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. But despite all the publicity and the critical praise and awards they've raked in, the sum total for these 'sure things' was a giant goose egg.
The nine shortlisted nominees, which undoubtedly you have never heard of, are The Counterfeiters (Austria), The Year My Parents Went on Vacation (Brazil), Days of Darkness (Canada), Beaufort (Israel), The Unknown (Italy), Mongol (Kazakhstan), Katyn (Poland), and 12 (Russia).
It just goes to show - you can't always believe the hype!!
