Why does it seem the debate about ID and Evolution is always about God? I think the movie 'Expelled' does a pretty good job at showing this underlying issue over God. A Harris 2003 poll found that 90% of the people polled believe in God. 90% of those people who had college degrees and 85% who had post-grad degrees believe in God. Obviously, there are those in Academia who believe in God. If there is no discussion about God in the origins of man, then how honest are these discussions? Sir Isaac Newton, debatably the greatest scientific mind of all time, was a creationist. A quote from Newton in Des MacHale, Wisdom (London, 2002) stated ‘In the absence of any other proof, the thumb alone would convince me of God's existence.’ Also, a really great quote from Albert Einstein in Reader’s Digest, Nov. 1973 is ‘Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind.’ If Richard Dawkins can believe that an alien race could have seeded our planet as he stated in ‘Expelled,’ can still be credible, why not ID? ID is not about God, but about systems that do not necessarily fit the model ascribed to by Darwinian theory. We all want to know truth. Thank-you Ben for reminding us that faith not only does not hinder science, it makes science more exciting. Also, that what we believe about ourselves may have an impact on how we live out our lives.
